LEB 38 Now as they traveled along, he entered into a certain village. And a certain woman {named} Martha welcomed him. NIV 38 As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. LEB 39 And {she had} a sister named Mary, who also sat at the feet of Jesus [and] was listening to his teaching. NIV 39 She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet listening to what he said. LEB 40 But Martha was distracted with much preparation, so she approached [and] said, "Lord, is it not a concern to you that my sister has left me alone to make preparations? Then tell her that she should help me!" NIV 40 But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, "Lord, don't you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself ? Tell her to help me!" LEB 41 But the Lord answered [and] said to her, "Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many [things]! NIV 41 "Martha, Martha," the Lord answered, "you are worried and upset about many things, LEB 42 But few [things] are necessary, or [only] one [thing], for Mary has chosen the better part, which will not be taken away from her." NIV 42 but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her."
