LEB 2 But nothing is concealed that will not be revealed, and secret that will not be made known. NIV 2 There is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed, or hidden that will not be made known. LEB 3 Therefore everything that you have said in the dark will be heard in the light, and what {you have whispered} in the inner rooms will be proclaimed on the housetops. NIV 3 What you have said in the dark will be heard in the daylight, and what you have whispered in the ear in the inner rooms will be proclaimed from the roofs. LEB 4 "And I tell you, my friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body, and after these [things] do not have anything more to do. NIV 4 "I tell you, my friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body and after that can do no more. LEB 5 But I will show you whom you should fear: fear the one who has authority, after the killing, to throw [you] into hell! Yes, I tell you, fear this one! NIV 5 But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear him who, after the killing of the body, has power to throw you into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear him. LEB 6 Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? And not one of them is forgotten in the sight of God. NIV 6 Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies ? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God. Don't be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows. LEB 8 "And I tell you, everyone who acknowledges me before people, the Son of Man also will acknowledge him before the angels of God, NIV 8 "I tell you, whoever acknowledges me before men, the Son of Man will also acknowledge him before the angels of God. LEB 9 but the one who denies me before people will be denied before the angels of God. NIV 9 But he who disowns me before men will be disowned before the angels of God. LEB 10 And everyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him, but to the one who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven. NIV 10 And everyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven. LEB 11 But when they bring you before the synagogues and the rulers and the authorities, do not be anxious how or what you should speak in your own defense or what you should say, NIV 11 "When you are brought before synagogues, rulers and authorities, do not worry about how you will defend yourselves or what you will say, LEB 12 for the Holy Spirit will teach you in [that] same hour what it is necessary to say." NIV 12 for the Holy Spirit will teach you at that time what you should say." LEB 13 Now someone from the crowd said to him, "Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me!" NIV 13 Someone in the crowd said to him, "Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me." LEB 14 But he said to him, "Man, who made me a judge or an arbitrator over you?" NIV 14 Jesus replied, "Man, who appointed me a judge or an arbiter between you?" LEB 15 And he said to them, "Watch out and guard yourselves from all greediness, because not [even] when someone has an abundance {does} his life [consist] of his possessions." NIV 15 Then he said to them, "Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; a man's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions." LEB 16 And he told a parable to them, saying, "The land of a certain rich man yielded an abundant harvest. NIV 16 And he told them this parable: "The ground of a certain rich man produced a good crop. LEB 17 And he reasoned to himself, saying, 'What should I do? For I do not have anywhere I can gather in my crops.' NIV 17 He thought to himself, 'What shall I do? I have no place to store my crops.' LEB 18 And he said, 'I will do this: I will tear down my barns and build larger ones, and I will gather in there all my grain and possessions. NIV 18 "Then he said, 'This is what I'll do. I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. LEB 19 And I will say to my soul, "Soul, you have many possessions stored up for many years. Relax, eat, drink, celebrate!" ' NIV 19 And I'll say to myself, "You have plenty of good things laid up for many years. Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry." ' LEB 20 But God said to him, 'Fool! Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself ?' LEB 21 So [is] the one who stores up treasure for himself, and who is not rich toward God!" NIV 21 "This is how it will be with anyone who stores up things for himself but is not rich toward God." LEB 22 And he said to his disciples, "For this [reason] I tell you, do not be anxious for [your] life, what you will eat, or for [your] body, what you will wear. LEB 23 For life is more than food, and the body [more than] clothing. NIV 23 Life is more than food, and the body more than clothes. LEB 24 Consider the ravens, that they neither sow nor reap; to them there is neither storeroom nor barn, and God feeds them. How much more are you worth than the birds? NIV 24 Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds! LEB 25 And which of you [by] being anxious is able to add an hour to his life span? NIV 25 Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life ? LEB 27 Consider the lilies, how they grow: they do not toil or spin, but I say to you, not even Solomon in all his glory was dressed like one of these. NIV 27 "Consider how the lilies grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you, not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. LEB 28 But if God clothes the grass in the field in this way, [although it] is [here] today and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, how much more [will he do so for] you, you of little faith? NIV 28 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today, and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, how much more will he clothe you, O you of little faith! LEB 29 And you, do not consider what you will eat and what you will drink, and do not be anxious. NIV 29 And do not set your heart on what you will eat or drink; do not worry about it. LEB 30 For all the nations of the world seek after these [things], and your Father knows that you need these [things]. NIV 30 For the pagan world runs after all such things, and your Father knows that you need them. LEB 31 But seek his kingdom and these [things] will be added to you. NIV 31 But seek his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well. LEB 32 "Do not be afraid, little flock, because your Father is well pleased to give you the kingdom. NIV 36 like men waiting for their master to return from a wedding banquet, so that when he comes and knocks they can immediately open the door for him. LEB 37 Blessed [are] those slaves whom the master will find on the alert [when he] returns! Truly I say to you that he will dress himself for service and have them recline at the table and will come by [and] serve them. NIV 37 It will be good for those servants whose master finds them watching when he comes. I tell you the truth, he will dress himself to serve, will have them recline at the table and will come and wait on them. LEB 38 Even if he should come back in the second or in the third watch of the night and find [them] like this, blessed are they! NIV 38 It will be good for those servants whose master finds them ready, even if he comes in the second or third watch of the night. LEB 39 But understand this, that if the master of the house had known what hour the thief was coming, he would not have left his house to be broken into. NIV 39 But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would not have let his house be broken into. LEB 40 You also must be ready, because the Son of Man is coming at an hour that you do not think [he will come]." NIV 40 You also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him." LEB 41 And Peter said, "Lord, are you telling this parable for us, or also for everyone?" LEB 44 Truly I say to you that he will put him in charge of all his possessions. NIV 44 I tell you the truth, he will put him in charge of all his possessions. LEB 45 But if that slave should say {to himself}, 'My master is taking a long time to return,' and he begins to beat the male slaves and the female slaves and to eat and drink and get drunk, NIV 45 But suppose the servant says to himself, 'My master is taking a long time in coming,' and he then begins to beat the menservants and maidservants and to eat and drink and get drunk. LEB 46 the master of that slave will come on a day that he does not expect and at an hour that he does not know, and will cut him in two and assign his place with the unbelievers. NIV 46 The master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he is not aware of. He will cut him to pieces and assign him a place with the unbelievers. LEB 47 And that slave who knew the will of his master and did not prepare or do according to his will {will be given a severe beating}. LEB 51 Do you think that I have come to grant peace on the earth? No, I tell you, but rather division! NIV 51 Do you think I came to bring peace on earth? No, I tell you, but division. LEB 52 For from now on there will be five in one household, divided three against two and two against three. NIV 52 From now on there will be five in one family divided against each other, three against two and two against three. LEB 53 They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law." NIV 53 They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law." LEB 54 And he also said to the crowds, "When you see a cloud coming up in the west, you say at once, 'A rainstorm is coming,' and so it happens. You know how to interpret the appearance of the earth and the sky. How is it that you don't know how to interpret this present time? LEB 57 And why do you not also judge for yourselves [what is] right? NIV 57 "Why don't you judge for yourselves what is right? LEB 58 For as you are going with your accuser before the magistrate, make an effort to come to a settlement with him on the way, so that he will not drag you to the judge, and the judge will hand you over to the bailiff, and the bailiff will throw you into prison. NIV 58 As you are going with your adversary to the magistrate, try hard to be reconciled to him on the way, or he may drag you off to the judge, and the judge turn you over to the officer, and the officer throw you into prison. LEB 59 I tell you, you will never get out of there until you have paid back even the last cent!" NIV 59 I tell you, you will not get out until you have paid the last penny. "
