Luke 12:14-21

NLT 14 Jesus replied, "Friend, who made me a judge over you to decide such things as that?" NIV 14 Jesus replied, "Man, who appointed me a judge or an arbiter between you?" NLT 15 Then he said, "Beware! Don't be greedy for what you don't have. Real life is not measured by how much we own." NIV 15 Then he said to them, "Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; a man's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions." NLT 16 And he gave an illustration: "A rich man had a fertile farm that produced fine crops. NIV 16 And he told them this parable: "The ground of a certain rich man produced a good crop. NLT 17 In fact, his barns were full to overflowing. NIV 17 He thought to himself, 'What shall I do? I have no place to store my crops.' NLT 18 So he said, 'I know! I'll tear down my barns and build bigger ones. Then I'll have room enough to store everything. NIV 18 "Then he said, 'This is what I'll do. I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. NLT 19 And I'll sit back and say to myself, My friend, you have enough stored away for years to come. Now take it easy! Eat, drink, and be merry!'" NIV 19 And I'll say to myself, "You have plenty of good things laid up for many years. Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry." ' NLT 20 "But God said to him, 'You fool! You will die this very night. Then who will get it all?'" NIV 20 "But God said to him, 'You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself ?' NLT 21 "Yes, a person is a fool to store up earthly wealth but not have a rich relationship with God." NIV 21 "This is how it will be with anyone who stores up things for himself but is not rich toward God."
