Luke 14:25-33

NLT 25 A large crowd was following Jesus. He turned around and said to them, NIV 25 Large crowds were traveling with Jesus, and turning to them he said: NLT 26 “If you want to be my disciple, you must hate everyone else by comparison—your father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters—yes, even your own life. Otherwise, you cannot be my disciple. NIV 26 "If anyone comes to me and does not hate his father and mother, his wife and children, his brothers and sisters--yes, even his own life--he cannot be my disciple. NLT 27 And if you do not carry your own cross and follow me, you cannot be my disciple. NIV 27 And anyone who does not carry his cross and follow me cannot be my disciple. NLT 28 “But don’t begin until you count the cost. For who would begin construction of a building without first calculating the cost to see if there is enough money to finish it? NIV 28 "Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Will he not first sit down and estimate the cost to see if he has enough money to complete it? NLT 29 Otherwise, you might complete only the foundation before running out of money, and then everyone would laugh at you. NIV 29 For if he lays the foundation and is not able to finish it, everyone who sees it will ridicule him, NLT 30 They would say, ‘There’s the person who started that building and couldn’t afford to finish it!’ NIV 30 saying, 'This fellow began to build and was not able to finish.' NLT 31 “Or what king would go to war against another king without first sitting down with his counselors to discuss whether his army of 10,000 could defeat the 20,000 soldiers marching against him? NIV 31 "Or suppose a king is about to go to war against another king. Will he not first sit down and consider whether he is able with ten thousand men to oppose the one coming against him with twenty thousand? NLT 32 And if he can’t, he will send a delegation to discuss terms of peace while the enemy is still far away. NIV 32 If he is not able, he will send a delegation while the other is still a long way off and will ask for terms of peace. NLT 33 So you cannot become my disciple without giving up everything you own. NIV 33 In the same way, any of you who does not give up everything he has cannot be my disciple.
