Luke 17

YLT 1 And he said unto the disciples, `It is impossible for the stumbling blocks not to come, but wo [to him] through whom they come; NIV 1 Jesus said to his disciples: "Things that cause people to sin are bound to come, but woe to that person through whom they come. YLT 2 it is more profitable to him if a weighty millstone is put round about his neck, and he hath been cast into the sea, than that he may cause one of these little ones to stumble. NIV 2 It would be better for him to be thrown into the sea with a millstone tied around his neck than for him to cause one of these little ones to sin. YLT 3 `Take heed to yourselves, and, if thy brother may sin in regard to thee, rebuke him, and if he may reform, forgive him, NIV 3 So watch yourselves. "If your brother sins, rebuke him, and if he repents, forgive him. YLT 4 and if seven times in the day he may sin against thee, and seven times in the day may turn back to thee, saying, I reform; thou shalt forgive him.' NIV 4 If he sins against you seven times in a day, and seven times comes back to you and says, 'I repent,' forgive him." YLT 5 And the apostles said to the Lord, `Add to us faith;' NIV 5 The apostles said to the LORD, "Increase our faith!" YLT 6 and the Lord said, `If ye had faith as a grain of mustard, ye would have said to this sycamine, Be uprooted, and be planted in the sea, and it would have obeyed you. NIV 6 He replied, "If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, 'Be uprooted and planted in the sea,' and it will obey you. YLT 7 `But, who is he of you -- having a servant ploughing or feeding -- who, to him having come in out of the field, will say, Having come near, recline at meat? NIV 7 "Suppose one of you had a servant plowing or looking after the sheep. Would he say to the servant when he comes in from the field, 'Come along now and sit down to eat'? YLT 8 but will not [rather] say to him, Prepare what I may sup, and having girded thyself about, minister to me, till I eat and drink, and after these things thou shalt eat and drink? NIV 8 Would he not rather say, 'Prepare my supper, get yourself ready and wait on me while I eat and drink; after that you may eat and drink'? YLT 9 Hath he favour to that servant because he did the things directed? I think not. NIV 9 Would he thank the servant because he did what he was told to do? YLT 10 `So also ye, when ye may have done all the things directed you, say -- We are unprofitable servants, because that which we owed to do -- we have done.' NIV 10 So you also, when you have done everything you were told to do, should say, 'We are unworthy servants; we have only done our duty.' " YLT 11 And it came to pass, in his going on to Jerusalem, that he passed through the midst of Samaria and Galilee, NIV 11 Now on his way to Jerusalem, Jesus traveled along the border between Samaria and Galilee. YLT 12 and he entering into a certain village, there met him ten leprous men, who stood afar off, NIV 12 As he was going into a village, ten men who had leprosy met him. They stood at a distance YLT 13 and they lifted up the voice, saying, `Jesus, master, deal kindly with us;' NIV 13 and called out in a loud voice, "Jesus, Master, have pity on us!" YLT 14 and having seen [them], he said to them, `Having gone on, shew yourselves to the priests;' and it came to pass, in their going, they were cleansed, NIV 14 When he saw them, he said, "Go, show yourselves to the priests." And as they went, they were cleansed. YLT 15 and one of them having seen that he was healed did turn back, with a loud voice glorifying God, NIV 15 One of them, when he saw he was healed, came back, praising God in a loud voice. YLT 16 and he fell upon [his] face at his feet, giving thanks to him, and he was a Samaritan. NIV 16 He threw himself at Jesus' feet and thanked him--and he was a Samaritan. YLT 17 And Jesus answering said, `Were not the ten cleansed, and the nine -- where? NIV 17 Jesus asked, "Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine? YLT 18 There were not found who did turn back to give glory to God, except this alien;' NIV 18 Was no one found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?" YLT 19 and he said to him, `Having risen, be going on, thy faith hath saved thee.' NIV 19 Then he said to him, "Rise and go; your faith has made you well." YLT 20 And having been questioned by the Pharisees, when the reign of God doth come, he answered them, and said, `The reign of God doth not come with observation; NIV 20 Once, having been asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, Jesus replied, "The kingdom of God does not come with your careful observation, YLT 21 nor shall they say, Lo, here; or lo, there; for lo, the reign of God is within you.' NIV 21 nor will people say, 'Here it is,' or 'There it is,' because the kingdom of God is within you." YLT 22 And he said unto his disciples, `Days will come, when ye shall desire to see one of the days of the Son of Man, and ye shall not behold [it]; NIV 22 Then he said to his disciples, "The time is coming when you will long to see one of the days of the Son of Man, but you will not see it. YLT 23 and they shall say to you, Lo, here; or lo, there; ye may not go away, nor follow; NIV 23 Men will tell you, 'There he is!' or 'Here he is!' Do not go running off after them. YLT 24 for as the lightning that is lightening out of the one [part] under heaven, to the other part under heaven doth shine, so shall be also the Son of Man in his day; NIV 24 For the Son of Man in his day will be like the lightning, which flashes and lights up the sky from one end to the other. YLT 25 and first it behoveth him to suffer many things, and to be rejected by this generation. NIV 25 But first he must suffer many things and be rejected by this generation. YLT 26 `And, as it came to pass in the days of Noah, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of Man; NIV 26 "Just as it was in the days of Noah, so also will it be in the days of the Son of Man. YLT 27 they were eating, they were drinking, they were marrying, they were given in marriage, till the day that Noah entered into the ark, and the deluge came, and destroyed all; NIV 27 People were eating, drinking, marrying and being given in marriage up to the day Noah entered the ark. Then the flood came and destroyed them all. YLT 28 in like manner also, as it came to pass in the days of Lot; they were eating, they were drinking, they were buying, they were selling, they were planting, they were building; NIV 28 "It was the same in the days of Lot. People were eating and drinking, buying and selling, planting and building. YLT 29 and on the day Lot went forth from Sodom, He rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed all. NIV 29 But the day Lot left Sodom, fire and sulfur rained down from heaven and destroyed them all. YLT 30 `According to these things it shall be, in the day the Son of Man is revealed; NIV 30 "It will be just like this on the day the Son of Man is revealed. YLT 31 in that day, he who shall be on the house top, and his vessels in the house, let him not come down to take them away; and he in the field, in like manner, let him not turn backward; NIV 31 On that day no one who is on the roof of his house, with his goods inside, should go down to get them. Likewise, no one in the field should go back for anything. YLT 32 remember the wife of Lot. NIV 32 Remember Lot's wife! YLT 33 Whoever may seek to save his life, shall lose it; and whoever may lose it, shall preserve it. NIV 33 Whoever tries to keep his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life will preserve it. YLT 34 `I say to you, In that night, there shall be two men on one couch, the one shall be taken, and the other shall be left; NIV 34 I tell you, on that night two people will be in one bed; one will be taken and the other left. YLT 35 two women shall be grinding at the same place together, the one shall be taken, and the other shall be left; NIV 35 Two women will be grinding grain together; one will be taken and the other left. " YLT 36 two men shall be in the field, the one shall be taken, and the other left.' YLT 37 And they answering say to him, `Where, sir?' and he said to them, `Where the body [is], there will the eagles be gathered together.' NIV 37 "Where, LORD?" they asked. He replied, "Where there is a dead body, there the vultures will gather."
