NAS 26 Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city in Galilee called Nazareth, NIV 26 In the sixth month, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee, NAS 27 to a virgin engaged to a man whose name was Joseph, of the descendants of David; and the virgin's name was Mary. NIV 27 to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David. The virgin's name was Mary. NAS 28 And coming in, he said to her, "Greetings, favored one! The Lord is with you." NIV 28 The angel went to her and said, "Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you." NAS 29 But she was very perplexed at this statement, and kept pondering what kind of salutation this was. NIV 29 Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be. NAS 30 The angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary; for you have found favor with God. NIV 30 But the angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary, you have found favor with God. NAS 31 "And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name Him Jesus. NIV 31 You will be with child and give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus. NAS 32 "He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David; NIV 32 He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, NAS 33 and He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and His kingdom will have no end." NIV 33 and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever; his kingdom will never end." NAS 34 Mary said to the angel, "How can this be, since I am a virgin ?" NIV 34 "How will this be," Mary asked the angel, "since I am a virgin?" NAS 35 The angel answered and said to her, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; and for that reason the holy Child shall be called the Son of God. NIV 35 The angel answered, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God. NAS 36 "And behold, even your relative Elizabeth has also conceived a son in her old age; and she who was called barren is now in her sixth month. NIV 36 Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child in her old age, and she who was said to be barren is in her sixth month. NAS 37 "For nothing will be impossible with God." NIV 37 For nothing is impossible with God." NAS 38 And Mary said, "Behold, the bondslave of the Lord ; may it be done to me according to your word." And the angel departed from her. NIV 38 "I am the Lord's servant," Mary answered. "May it be to me as you have said." Then the angel left her.
