Luke 20:22-32

NLT 22 Now tell us—is it right for us to pay taxes to Caesar or not?” NIV 22 Is it right for us to pay taxes to Caesar or not?" NLT 23 He saw through their trickery and said, NIV 23 He saw through their duplicity and said to them, NLT 24 “Show me a Roman coin. Whose picture and title are stamped on it?” “Caesar’s,” they replied. NIV 24 "Show me a denarius. Whose portrait and inscription are on it?" NLT 25 “Well then,” he said, “give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar, and give to God what belongs to God.” NIV 25 "Caesar's," they replied. He said to them, "Then give to Caesar what is Caesar's, and to God what is God's." NLT 26 So they failed to trap him by what he said in front of the people. Instead, they were amazed by his answer, and they became silent. NIV 26 They were unable to trap him in what he had said there in public. And astonished by his answer, they became silent. NLT 27 Then Jesus was approached by some Sadducees—religious leaders who say there is no resurrection from the dead. NIV 27 Some of the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to Jesus with a question. NLT 28 They posed this question: “Teacher, Moses gave us a law that if a man dies, leaving a wife but no children, his brother should marry the widow and have a child who will carry on the brother’s name. NIV 28 "Teacher," they said, "Moses wrote for us that if a man's brother dies and leaves a wife but no children, the man must marry the widow and have children for his brother. NLT 29 Well, suppose there were seven brothers. The oldest one married and then died without children. NIV 29 Now there were seven brothers. The first one married a woman and died childless. NLT 30 So the second brother married the widow, but he also died. NIV 30 The second NLT 31 Then the third brother married her. This continued with all seven of them, who died without children. NIV 31 and then the third married her, and in the same way the seven died, leaving no children. NLT 32 Finally, the woman also died. NIV 32 Finally, the woman died too.
