GW 4 All of these people have given what they could spare. But she, in her poverty, has given everything she had to live on." NIV 4 All these people gave their gifts out of their wealth; but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on." GW 5 Some [of the disciples] were talking about the temple complex. They noted that it was built with fine stones and decorated with beautiful gifts. So Jesus said, NIV 5 Some of his disciples were remarking about how the temple was adorned with beautiful stones and with gifts dedicated to God. But Jesus said, GW 6 "About these buildings that you see--the time will come when not one of these stones will be left on top of another. Each one will be torn down." NIV 6 "As for what you see here, the time will come when not one stone will be left on another; every one of them will be thrown down." GW 7 The disciples asked him, "Teacher, when will this happen? What will be the sign when all this will occur?" NIV 7 "Teacher," they asked, "when will these things happen? And what will be the sign that they are about to take place?" GW 8 Jesus said, "Be careful that you are not deceived. Many will come using my name. They will say, 'I am he!' and 'The time is near.' Don't follow them! NIV 8 He replied: "Watch out that you are not deceived. For many will come in my name, claiming, 'I am he,' and, 'The time is near.' Do not follow them. GW 9 "When you hear of wars and revolutions, don't be terrified! These things must happen first, but the end will not come immediately." NIV 9 When you hear of wars and revolutions, do not be frightened. These things must happen first, but the end will not come right away." GW 10 Then Jesus continued, "Nation will fight against nation and kingdom against kingdom. NIV 10 Then he said to them: "Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. GW 11 There will be terrible earthquakes, famines, and dreadful diseases in various places. Terrifying sights and miraculous signs will come from the sky. NIV 11 There will be great earthquakes, famines and pestilences in various places, and fearful events and great signs from heaven. GW 12 "Before all these things happen, people will arrest and persecute you. They will hand you over to their synagogues and put you into their prisons. They will drag you in front of kings and governors because of my name. NIV 12 "But before all this, they will lay hands on you and persecute you. They will deliver you to synagogues and prisons, and you will be brought before kings and governors, and all on account of my name. GW 13 It will be your opportunity to testify to them. NIV 13 This will result in your being witnesses to them. GW 14 So make up your minds not to worry beforehand how you will defend yourselves. NIV 14 But make up your mind not to worry beforehand how you will defend yourselves. GW 15 I will give you words and wisdom that none of your enemies will be able to oppose or prove wrong. NIV 15 For I will give you words and wisdom that none of your adversaries will be able to resist or contradict. GW 16 "Even parents, brothers, relatives, and friends will betray you and kill some of you. NIV 16 You will be betrayed even by parents, brothers, relatives and friends, and they will put some of you to death. GW 17 Everyone will hate you because you are committed to me. NIV 17 All men will hate you because of me. GW 18 But not a hair on your head will be lost. NIV 18 But not a hair of your head will perish. GW 19 By your endurance you will save your life. NIV 19 By standing firm you will gain life. GW 20 "When you see armies camped around Jerusalem, realize that the time is near for it to be destroyed. NIV 20 "When you see Jerusalem being surrounded by armies, you will know that its desolation is near. GW 21 Then those of you in Judea should flee to the mountains. Those of you in Jerusalem should leave it. Those of you in the fields shouldn't go back into them. NIV 21 Then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains, let those in the city get out, and let those in the country not enter the city. GW 22 This will be a time of vengeance. Everything that is written about it will come true. NIV 22 For this is the time of punishment in fulfillment of all that has been written. GW 23 "How horrible it will be for women who are pregnant or who are nursing babies in those days. Indeed, the land will suffer very hard times, and its people will be punished. NIV 23 How dreadful it will be in those days for pregnant women and nursing mothers! There will be great distress in the land and wrath against this people. GW 24 Swords will cut them down, and they will be carried off into all nations as prisoners. Nations will trample Jerusalem until the times allowed for the nations [to do this] are over. NIV 24 They will fall by the sword and will be taken as prisoners to all the nations. Jerusalem will be trampled on by the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled. GW 25 "Miraculous signs will occur in the sun, moon, and stars. The nations of the earth will be deeply troubled and confused because of the roaring and tossing of the sea. NIV 25 "There will be signs in the sun, moon and stars. On the earth, nations will be in anguish and perplexity at the roaring and tossing of the sea. GW 28 "When these things begin to happen, stand with confidence! The time when you will be set free is near." NIV 28 When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near." GW 29 Then Jesus used this story as an illustration. "Look at the fig tree or any other tree. NIV 29 He told them this parable: "Look at the fig tree and all the trees. GW 30 As soon as leaves grow on them, you know without being told that summer is near. NIV 30 When they sprout leaves, you can see for yourselves and know that summer is near. GW 31 In the same way, when you see these things happen, you know that the kingdom of God is near. NIV 31 Even so, when you see these things happening, you know that the kingdom of God is near. GW 32 "I can guarantee this truth: This generation will not disappear until all this takes place. NIV 32 "I tell you the truth, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened. GW 33 The earth and the heavens will disappear, but my words will never disappear. NIV 33 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away. GW 34 "Make sure that you don't become drunk, hung over, and worried about life. Then that day could suddenly catch you by surprise NIV 34 "Be careful, or your hearts will be weighed down with dissipation, drunkenness and the anxieties of life, and that day will close on you unexpectedly like a trap. GW 35 like a trap that catches a bird. That day will surprise all people who live on the earth. NIV 35 For it will come upon all those who live on the face of the whole earth. GW 36 Be alert at all times. Pray so that you have the power to escape everything that is about to happen and to stand in front of the Son of Man." NIV 36 Be always on the watch, and pray that you may be able to escape all that is about to happen, and that you may be able to stand before the Son of Man." GW 37 During the day Jesus would teach in the temple courtyard. But at night he would go to the Mount of Olives (as it was called) and spend the night there. NIV 37 Each day Jesus was teaching at the temple, and each evening he went out to spend the night on the hill called the Mount of Olives, GW 38 All of the people would get up early to hear him speak in the temple courtyard. NIV 38 and all the people came early in the morning to hear him at the temple.
