Luke 22:34-44

MSG 34 Jesus said, "I'm sorry to have to tell you this, Peter, but before the rooster crows you will have three times denied that you know me." NIV 34 Jesus answered, "I tell you, Peter, before the rooster crows today, you will deny three times that you know me." MSG 35 Then Jesus said, "When I sent you out and told you to travel light, to take only the bare necessities, did you get along all right?" "Certainly," they said, "we got along just fine." NIV 35 Then Jesus asked them, "When I sent you without purse, bag or sandals, did you lack anything?" "Nothing," they answered. MSG 36 He said, "This is different. Get ready for trouble. Look to what you'll need; there are difficult times ahead. Pawn your coat and get a sword. NIV 36 He said to them, "But now if you have a purse, take it, and also a bag; and if you don't have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one. MSG 37 What was written in Scripture, 'He was lumped in with the criminals,' gets its final meaning in me. Everything written about me is now coming to a conclusion." NIV 37 It is written: 'And he was numbered with the transgressors'; and I tell you that this must be fulfilled in me. Yes, what is written about me is reaching its fulfillment." MSG 38 They said, "Look, Master, two swords!" But he said, "Enough of that; no more sword talk!" NIV 38 The disciples said, "See, Lord, here are two swords." "That is enough," he replied. MSG 39 Leaving there, he went, as he so often did, to Mount Olives. The disciples followed him. NIV 39 Jesus went out as usual to the Mount of Olives, and his disciples followed him. MSG 40 When they arrived at the place, he said, "Pray that you don't give in to temptation." NIV 40 On reaching the place, he said to them, "Pray that you will not fall into temptation." MSG 41 He pulled away from them about a stone's throw, knelt down, and prayed, NIV 41 He withdrew about a stone's throw beyond them, knelt down and prayed, MSG 42 "Father, remove this cup from me. But please, not what I want. What do you want?" NIV 42 "Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done." MSG 43 At once an angel from heaven was at his side, strengthening him. NIV 43 An angel from heaven appeared to him and strengthened him. MSG 44 He prayed on all the harder. Sweat, wrung from him like drops of blood, poured off his face. NIV 44 And being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground.
