Luke 24:13-49

They replied, "The things about Jesus of Nazareth, who was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people, NIV 19 "What things?" he asked. "About Jesus of Nazareth," they replied. "He was a prophet, powerful in word and deed before God and all the people. NRS 20 and how our chief priests and leaders handed him over to be condemned to death and crucified him. NIV 20 The chief priests and our rulers handed him over to be sentenced to death, and they crucified him; NRS 21 But we had hoped that he was the one to redeem Israel. NRS 28 As they came near the village to which they were going, he walked ahead as if he were going on. NRS 29 But they urged him strongly, saying, "Stay with us, because it is almost evening and the day is now nearly over." So he went in to stay with them. NRS 36 While they were talking about this, Jesus himself stood among them and said to them, "Peace be with you." NIV 41 And while they still did not believe it because of joy and amazement, he asked them, "Do you have anything here to eat?" NIV 44 He said to them, "This is what I told you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms." NRS 45 Then he opened their minds to understand the scriptures, NIV 45 Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures. NRS 46 and he said to them, "Thus it is written, that the Messiah is to suffer and to rise from the dead on the third day, NIV 46 He told them, "This is what is written: The Christ will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, NRS 47 and that repentance and forgiveness of sins is to be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem. NIV 47 and repentance and forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. NRS 48 You are witnesses of these things. NIV 48 You are witnesses of these things. NRS 49 And see, I am sending upon you what my Father promised; so stay here in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high." NIV 49 I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high."
