Luke 3

NIRV 1 Tiberius Caesar had been ruling for 15 years. Pontius Pilate was governor of Judea. Herod was the ruler of Galilee. His brother Philip was the ruler of Iturea and Traconitis. Lysanias was ruler of Abilene. NIV 1 In the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar--when Pontius Pilate was governor of Judea, Herod tetrarch of Galilee, his brother Philip tetrarch of Iturea and Traconitis, and Lysanias tetrarch of Abilene-- NIRV 2 Annas and Caiaphas were high priests. At that time God's word came to John, son of Zechariah, in the desert. NIV 2 during the high priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas, the word of God came to John son of Zechariah in the desert. NIRV 3 He went into all the countryside around the Jordan River. There he preached that people should be baptized and turn away from their sins. Then God would forgive them. It says, "A messenger is calling out in the desert, 'Prepare the way for the Lord. Make straight paths for him. NIRV 8 Produce fruit that shows you have turned away from your sins. And don't start saying to yourselves, 'Abraham is our father.' I tell you, God can raise up children for Abraham even from these stones. NIV 8 Produce fruit in keeping with repentance. And do not begin to say to yourselves, 'We have Abraham as our father.' For I tell you that out of these stones God can raise up children for Abraham. NIRV 9 The ax is already lying at the roots of the trees. All the trees that don't produce good fruit will be cut down. NIRV 19 But John found fault with Herod, the ruler of Galilee, because of Herodias. She was the wife of Herod's brother. John also spoke strongly to Herod about all the other evil things he had done. NIV 19 But when John rebuked Herod the tetrarch because of Herodias, his brother's wife, and all the other evil things he had done, NIRV 20 So Herod locked him up in prison. He added this sin to all his others. NIV 20 Herod added this to them all: He locked John up in prison. NIRV 21 When all the people were being baptized, Jesus was baptized too.
