Luke 8:22-39

NAS 22 Now on one of those days Jesus and His disciples got into a boat, and He said to them, "Let us go over to the other side of the lake." So they launched out. NIV 22 One day Jesus said to his disciples, "Let's go over to the other side of the lake." So they got into a boat and set out. NAS 23 But as they were sailing along He fell asleep; and a fierce gale of wind descended on the lake, and they began to be swamped and to be in danger. NIV 23 As they sailed, he fell asleep. A squall came down on the lake, so that the boat was being swamped, and they were in great danger. NAS 24 They came to Jesus and woke Him up, saying, "Master, Master, we are perishing!" And He got up and rebuked the wind and the surging waves, and they stopped, and it became calm. NIV 24 The disciples went and woke him, saying, "Master, Master, we're going to drown!" He got up and rebuked the wind and the raging waters; the storm subsided, and all was calm. NAS 25 And He said to them, "Where is your faith?" They were fearful and amazed, saying to one another, "Who then is this, that He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey Him?" NIV 25 "Where is your faith?" he asked his disciples. In fear and amazement they asked one another, "Who is this? He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey him." NAS 26 Then they sailed to the country of the Gerasenes, which is opposite Galilee. NIV 26 They sailed to the region of the Gerasenes, which is across the lake from Galilee. NAS 27 And when He came out onto the land, He was met by a man from the city who was possessed with demons; and who had not put on any clothing for a long time, and was not living in a house, but in the tombs. NIV 27 When Jesus stepped ashore, he was met by a demon-possessed man from the town. For a long time this man had not worn clothes or lived in a house, but had lived in the tombs. NAS 28 Seeing Jesus, he cried out and fell before Him, and said in a loud voice, "What business do we have with each other, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg You, do not torment me." NIV 28 When he saw Jesus, he cried out and fell at his feet, shouting at the top of his voice, "What do you want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg you, don't torture me!" NAS 29 For He had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. For it had seized him many times; and he was bound with chains and shackles and kept under guard, and yet he would break his bonds and be driven by the demon into the desert. NIV 29 For Jesus had commanded the evil spirit to come out of the man. Many times it had seized him, and though he was chained hand and foot and kept under guard, he had broken his chains and had been driven by the demon into solitary places. NAS 30 And Jesus asked him, "What is your name?" And he said, "Legion "; for many demons had entered him. NIV 30 Jesus asked him, "What is your name?" "Legion," he replied, because many demons had gone into him. NAS 31 They were imploring Him not to command them to go away into the abyss. NIV 31 And they begged him repeatedly not to order them to go into the Abyss. NAS 32 Now there was a herd of many swine feeding there on the mountain; and the demons implored Him to permit them to enter the swine. And He gave them permission. NIV 32 A large herd of pigs was feeding there on the hillside. The demons begged Jesus to let them go into them, and he gave them permission. NAS 33 And the demons came out of the man and entered the swine; and the herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake and was drowned. NIV 33 When the demons came out of the man, they went into the pigs, and the herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake and was drowned. NAS 34 When the herdsmen saw what had happened, they ran away and reported it in the city and out in the country. NIV 34 When those tending the pigs saw what had happened, they ran off and reported this in the town and countryside, NAS 35 The people went out to see what had happened; and they came to Jesus, and found the man from whom the demons had gone out, sitting down at the feet of Jesus, clothed and in his right mind; and they became frightened. NIV 35 and the people went out to see what had happened. When they came to Jesus, they found the man from whom the demons had gone out, sitting at Jesus' feet, dressed and in his right mind; and they were afraid. NAS 36 Those who had seen it reported to them how the man who was demon-possessed had been made well. NIV 36 Those who had seen it told the people how the demon-possessed man had been cured. NAS 37 And all the people of the country of the Gerasenes and the surrounding district asked Him to leave them, for they were gripped with great fear; and He got into a boat and returned. NIV 37 Then all the people of the region of the Gerasenes asked Jesus to leave them, because they were overcome with fear. So he got into the boat and left. NAS 38 But the man from whom the demons had gone out was begging Him that he might accompany Him; but He sent him away, saying, NIV 38 The man from whom the demons had gone out begged to go with him, but Jesus sent him away, saying, NAS 39 "Return to your house and describe what great things God has done for you." So he went away, proclaiming throughout the whole city what great things Jesus had done for him. NIV 39 "Return home and tell how much God has done for you." So the man went away and told all over town how much Jesus had done for him.
