TMB 1 And He rose from thence, and went into the region of Judea by the farther side of the Jordan. And the people resorted unto Him again; and as He was wont, He taught them again. NIV 1 Jesus then left that place and went into the region of Judea and across the Jordan. Again crowds of people came to him, and as was his custom, he taught them. TMB 2 And the Pharisees came to Him and asked Him, "Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife?" -- testing Him. NIV 2 Some Pharisees came and tested him by asking, "Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?" TMB 3 And He answered and said unto them, "What did Moses command you?" NIV 3 "What did Moses command you?" he replied. TMB 4 And they said, "Moses suffered to write a bill of divorcement, and to put her away." NIV 4 They said, "Moses permitted a man to write a certificate of divorce and send her away." TMB 5 And Jesus answered and said unto them, "Because of the hardness of your heart he wrote you this precept. NIV 5 "It was because your hearts were hard that Moses wrote you this law," Jesus replied. TMB 6 But from the beginning of the creation, 'God made them male and female. NIV 6 "But at the beginning of creation God 'made them male and female.' TMB 7 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife, NIV 7 'For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, TMB 8 and the two shall be one flesh.' So then they are no more two, but one flesh. NIV 8 and the two will become one flesh.' So they are no longer two, but one. TMB 9 What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder." NIV 9 Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate." TMB 10 And in the house His disciples asked Him again about the same matter. NIV 10 When they were in the house again, the disciples asked Jesus about this. TMB 11 And He said unto them, "Whosoever shall put away his wife and marry another, committeth adultery against her. NIV 11 He answered, "Anyone who divorces his wife and marries another woman commits adultery against her. TMB 12 And if a woman shall put away her husband and be married to another, she committeth adultery." NIV 12 And if she divorces her husband and marries another man, she commits adultery." TMB 13 And they brought young children to Him, that He should touch them; and His disciples rebuked those who brought them. NIV 13 People were bringing little children to Jesus to have him touch them, but the disciples rebuked them. TMB 14 But when Jesus saw it, He was much displeased and said unto them, "Suffer the little children to come unto Me, and forbid them not, for of such is the Kingdom of God. NIV 14 When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. TMB 15 Verily I say unto you, whosoever shall not receive the Kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein." NIV 15 I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it." TMB 16 And He took them up in His arms, put His hands upon them, and blessed them. NIV 16 And he took the children in his arms, put his hands on them and blessed them. TMB 17 And when He had gone forth onto the road, there came one running, and knelt before Him and asked Him, "Good Master, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?" NIV 17 As Jesus started on his way, a man ran up to him and fell on his knees before him. "Good teacher," he asked, "what must I do to inherit eternal life?" TMB 18 And Jesus said unto him, "Why callest thou Me good? There is none good but One, that is, God. NIV 18 "Why do you call me good?" Jesus answered. "No one is good--except God alone. TMB 19 Thou knowest the commandments: `Do not commit adultery, do not kill, do not steal, do not bear false witness, defraud not, honor thy father and mother.'" NIV 19 You know the commandments: 'Do not murder, do not commit adultery, do not steal, do not give false testimony, do not defraud, honor your father and mother.' " TMB 20 And he answered and said unto Him, "Master, all these have I observed from my youth." NIV 20 "Teacher," he declared, "all these I have kept since I was a boy." TMB 21 Then Jesus, beholding him, loved him and said unto him, "One thing thou lackest: Go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in Heaven; and come, take up the cross, and follow Me." NIV 21 Jesus looked at him and loved him. "One thing you lack," he said. "Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me." TMB 22 And he was sad at that saying and went away grieved, for he had great possessions. NIV 22 At this the man's face fell. He went away sad, because he had great wealth. TMB 23 And Jesus looked round about and said unto His disciples, "How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the Kingdom of God!" NIV 23 Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, "How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God!" TMB 24 And the disciples were astonished at His words, but Jesus answered again and said unto them, "Children, how hard is it for them that trust in riches to enter into the Kingdom of God! NIV 24 The disciples were amazed at his words. But Jesus said again, "Children, how hard it is to enter the kingdom of God! TMB 25 It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the Kingdom of God." NIV 25 It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God." TMB 26 And they were astonished beyond measure, saying among themselves, "Who then can be saved?" NIV 26 The disciples were even more amazed, and said to each other, "Who then can be saved?" TMB 27 And Jesus, looking upon them, said, "With men it is impossible, but not with God; for with God all things are possible." NIV 27 Jesus looked at them and said, "With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God." TMB 28 Then Peter began to say unto Him, "Lo, we have left all and have followed Thee." NIV 28 Peter said to him, "We have left everything to follow you!" TMB 29 And Jesus answered and said, "Verily I say unto you, there is no man that hath left house or brethren or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands for My sake and the Gospel's, NIV 29 "I tell you the truth," Jesus replied, "no one who has left home or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for me and the gospel TMB 30 but he shall receive a hundredfold now in this time, houses and brethren and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions, and in the world to come, eternal life. TMB 32 And they were on the way going up to Jerusalem, and Jesus went before them; and they were amazed, and as they followed, they were afraid. And He took again the twelve, and began to tell them what things would happen unto Him, NIV 32 They were on their way up to Jerusalem, with Jesus leading the way, and the disciples were astonished, while those who followed were afraid. Again he took the Twelve aside and told them what was going to happen to him. TMB 33 saying, "Behold, we go up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man shall be delivered unto the chief priests and unto the scribes; and they shall condemn Him to death, and shall deliver Him to the Gentiles. NIV 33 "We are going up to Jerusalem," he said, "and the Son of Man will be betrayed to the chief priests and teachers of the law. They will condemn him to death and will hand him over to the Gentiles, TMB 34 And they shall mock Him and shall scourge Him, and shall spit upon Him and shall kill Him. And the third day He shall rise again." NIV 34 who will mock him and spit on him, flog him and kill him. Three days later he will rise." TMB 35 And James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came unto Him, saying, "Master, we would that Thou should do for us whatsoever we shall desire." NIV 35 Then James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came to him. "Teacher," they said, "we want you to do for us whatever we ask." TMB 36 And He said unto them, "What would ye that I should do for you?" NIV 36 "What do you want me to do for you?" he asked. TMB 37 They said unto Him, "Grant unto us that we may sit, one on Thy right hand and the other on Thy left hand, in Thy glory." NIV 37 They replied, "Let one of us sit at your right and the other at your left in your glory." TMB 38 But Jesus said unto them, "Ye know not what ye ask. Can ye drink of the cup that I drink of, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with?" NIV 38 "You don't know what you are asking," Jesus said. "Can you drink the cup I drink or be baptized with the baptism I am baptized with?" TMB 39 And they said unto Him, "We can." And Jesus said unto them, "Ye shall indeed drink of the cup that I drink of; and with the baptism that I am baptized with, also shall ye be baptized. NIV 39 "We can," they answered. Jesus said to them, "You will drink the cup I drink and be baptized with the baptism I am baptized with, TMB 40 But to sit on My right hand and on My left hand is not Mine to give, but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared." NIV 40 but to sit at my right or left is not for me to grant. These places belong to those for whom they have been prepared." TMB 41 And when the ten heard it, they began to be much displeased with James and John. NIV 41 When the ten heard about this, they became indignant with James and John. TMB 42 But Jesus called them to Him and said unto them, "Ye know that they that are accounted to rule over the Gentiles exercise lordship over them, and their great ones exercise authority upon them. NIV 42 Jesus called them together and said, "You know that those who are regarded as rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them. TMB 43 But so shall it not be among you: but whosoever will be great among you shall be your minister, NIV 43 Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, TMB 44 and whosoever of you would be the chiefest shall be servant of all. NIV 44 and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all. TMB 45 For even the Son of Man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister and to give His life as a ransom for many." NIV 45 For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many." TMB 46 And they came to Jericho. And as He went out of Jericho with His disciples and a great number of people, blind Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, sat by the wayside begging. NIV 46 Then they came to Jericho. As Jesus and his disciples, together with a large crowd, were leaving the city, a blind man, Bartimaeus (that is, the son of Timaeus), was sitting by the roadside begging. TMB 47 And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out and say, "Jesus, Thou Son of David, have mercy on me!" NIV 47 When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to shout, "Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!" TMB 48 And many charged him that he should hold his peace; but he cried out all the more, "Thou Son of David, have mercy on me!" NIV 48 Many rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more, "Son of David, have mercy on me!" TMB 49 And Jesus stood still, and commanded him to be called. And they called the blind man, saying unto him, "Be of good comfort; rise; He calleth thee." NIV 49 Jesus stopped and said, "Call him." So they called to the blind man, "Cheer up! On your feet! He's calling you." TMB 50 And he, casting away his garment, rose and came to Jesus. NIV 50 Throwing his cloak aside, he jumped to his feet and came to Jesus. TMB 51 And Jesus answered and said unto him, "What wilt thou that I should do unto thee?" The blind man said unto Him, "Lord, that I might receive my sight." NIV 51 "What do you want me to do for you?" Jesus asked him. The blind man said, "Rabbi, I want to see." TMB 52 And Jesus said unto him, "Go thy way. Thy faith hath made thee whole." And immediately he received his sight, and followed Jesus in the way. NIV 52 "Go," said Jesus, "your faith has healed you." Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus along the road.
