Mark 11

LEB 1 And when they came near to Jerusalem, to Bethphage and Bethany at the Mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples NIV 1 As they approached Jerusalem and came to Bethphage and Bethany at the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two of his disciples, LEB 2 and said to them, "Go into the village before you, and right away [as you] enter into it you will find a colt tied, on which no one [has] ever sat. Untie it and bring [it]. NIV 2 saying to them, "Go to the village ahead of you, and just as you enter it, you will find a colt tied there, which no one has ever ridden. Untie it and bring it here. LEB 3 And if anyone says to you, 'Why are you doing this?' say 'The Lord has need of it, and will send it here again at once.'" NIV 3 If anyone asks you, 'Why are you doing this?' tell him, 'The Lord needs it and will send it back here shortly.' " LEB 4 And they went away and found a colt tied at a door outside in the street, and they untied it. NIV 4 They went and found a colt outside in the street, tied at a doorway. As they untied it, LEB 5 And some of those who were standing there said to them, "What are you doing, untying the colt?" NIV 5 some people standing there asked, "What are you doing, untying that colt?" LEB 6 So they told them, just as Jesus had said, and they allowed them [to take it]. NIV 6 They answered as Jesus had told them to, and the people let them go. LEB 7 And they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their cloaks over it, and he sat on it. NIV 7 When they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their cloaks over it, he sat on it. LEB 8 And many [people] spread their cloaks on the road, and others [spread] leafy branches [they] had cut from the fields. NIV 8 Many people spread their cloaks on the road, while others spread branches they had cut in the fields. LEB 9 And those who went ahead and those who were following were shouting, "Hosanna! Blessed [is] the one who comes in the name of the Lord!<note: A quotation from Ps 118:25-26> NIV 9 Those who went ahead and those who followed shouted, "Hosanna! " "Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!" LEB 10 Blessed [is] the coming kingdom of our father David! Hosanna in the highest [heaven]!" NIV 10 "Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David!" "Hosanna in the highest!" LEB 11 And he went into Jerusalem to the temple, and [after] looking around at everything, [because] the hour was already late, he went out to Bethany with the twelve. NIV 11 Jesus entered Jerusalem and went to the temple. He looked around at everything, but since it was already late, he went out to Bethany with the Twelve. LEB 12 And on the next day [as] they were departing from Bethany, he was hungry. NIV 12 The next day as they were leaving Bethany, Jesus was hungry. LEB 13 And [when he] saw from a distance a fig tree that had leaves, he went [to see] if perhaps he would find anything on it. And [when he] came up to it he found nothing except leaves, because it was not the season for figs. NIV 13 Seeing in the distance a fig tree in leaf, he went to find out if it had any fruit. When he reached it, he found nothing but leaves, because it was not the season for figs. LEB 14 And he responded [and] said to it, "Let no one eat fruit from you any more {forever}!" And his disciples heard [it]. NIV 14 Then he said to the tree, "May no one ever eat fruit from you again." And his disciples heard him say it. LEB 15 And they came to Jerusalem. And he entered into the temple [courts] [and] began to drive out those who were selling and those who were buying in the temple [courts], and overturned the tables of the money changers and the chairs of those who were selling doves. NIV 15 On reaching Jerusalem, Jesus entered the temple area and began driving out those who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves, LEB 16 And he did not permit anyone to carry objects through the temple [courts]. NIV 16 and would not allow anyone to carry merchandise through the temple courts. LEB 17 And he began to teach and was saying to them, "Is it not written, 'My house will be called a house of prayer for all the nations,'<note: A quotation from Isa 56:7> but you have made it a cave of robbers!" NIV 17 And as he taught them, he said, "Is it not written: " 'My house will be called a house of prayer for all nations' ? But you have made it 'a den of robbers.' " LEB 18 And the chief priests and the scribes heard [it], and began considering how they could destroy him. For they were afraid of him because the whole crowd was astounded by his teaching. NIV 18 The chief priests and the teachers of the law heard this and began looking for a way to kill him, for they feared him, because the whole crowd was amazed at his teaching. LEB 19 And when evening came they went out of the city. NIV 19 When evening came, they went out of the city. LEB 20 And [as they] passed by early in the morning, they saw the fig tree withered from the roots. NIV 20 In the morning, as they went along, they saw the fig tree withered from the roots. LEB 21 And Peter remembered [and] said to him, "Rabbi, look! The fig tree that you cursed has withered!" NIV 21 Peter remembered and said to Jesus, "Rabbi, look! The fig tree you cursed has withered!" LEB 22 And Jesus answered [and] said to them, "Have faith in God! NIV 22 "Have faith in God," Jesus answered. LEB 23 Truly I say to you that whoever says to this mountain, 'Be lifted up and thrown into the sea!' and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says will happen, it will be [done] for him. NIV 23 "I tell you the truth, if anyone says to this mountain, 'Go, throw yourself into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him. LEB 24 For this [reason] I say to you, whatever you pray and ask for, believe that you have received [it], and it will be [done] for you. NIV 24 Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. LEB 25 And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive [him], so that your Father who [is] in heaven will also forgive you your sins." NIV 25 And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive him, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins. " LEB 27 And they came again to Jerusalem. And [as] he was walking in the temple [courts], the chief priests and the scribes and the elders came up to him NIV 27 They arrived again in Jerusalem, and while Jesus was walking in the temple courts, the chief priests, the teachers of the law and the elders came to him. LEB 28 and said to him, "By what authority are you doing these [things], or who gave you this authority that you do these [things]?" NIV 28 "By what authority are you doing these things?" they asked. "And who gave you authority to do this?" LEB 29 So Jesus said to them, "I will ask you one question. Answer me and I will tell you by what authority I am doing these [things]. NIV 29 Jesus replied, "I will ask you one question. Answer me, and I will tell you by what authority I am doing these things. LEB 30 The baptism of John--was [it] from heaven or from men? Answer me!" NIV 30 John's baptism--was it from heaven, or from men? Tell me!" LEB 31 And they began to discuss [this] with one another, saying, "What should we say? If we say 'From heaven,' he will say, 'Why then did you not believe him?' NIV 31 They discussed it among themselves and said, "If we say, 'From heaven,' he will ask, 'Then why didn't you believe him?' LEB 32 But if we say, 'From men'"--they were afraid of the crowd, because they all looked upon John {as truly a prophet}. NIV 32 But if we say, 'From men' . . ." (They feared the people, for everyone held that John really was a prophet.) LEB 33 And they replied to Jesus saying, "We do not know." And Jesus said to them, "Neither will I tell you by what authority I am doing these [things]." NIV 33 So they answered Jesus, "We don't know." Jesus said, "Neither will I tell you by what authority I am doing these things."
