Mark 12:7-17

NRS 7 But those tenants said to one another, "This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and the inheritance will be ours.' NIV 7 "But the tenants said to one another, 'This is the heir. Come, let's kill him, and the inheritance will be ours.' NRS 8 So they seized him, killed him, and threw him out of the vineyard. NIV 8 So they took him and killed him, and threw him out of the vineyard. NRS 9 What then will the owner of the vineyard do? He will come and destroy the tenants and give the vineyard to others. NIV 9 "What then will the owner of the vineyard do? He will come and kill those tenants and give the vineyard to others. NRS 10 Have you not read this scripture: "The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; NIV 10 Haven't you read this scripture: " 'The stone the builders rejected has become the capstone; NRS 11 this was the Lord's doing, and it is amazing in our eyes'?" NIV 11 the Lord has done this, and it is marvelous in our eyes' ?" NRS 12 When they realized that he had told this parable against them, they wanted to arrest him, but they feared the crowd. So they left him and went away. NIV 12 Then they looked for a way to arrest him because they knew he had spoken the parable against them. But they were afraid of the crowd; so they left him and went away. NRS 13 Then they sent to him some Pharisees and some Herodians to trap him in what he said. NIV 13 Later they sent some of the Pharisees and Herodians to Jesus to catch him in his words. NRS 14 And they came and said to him, "Teacher, we know that you are sincere, and show deference to no one; for you do not regard people with partiality, but teach the way of God in accordance with truth. Is it lawful to pay taxes to the emperor, or not? NIV 14 They came to him and said, "Teacher, we know you are a man of integrity. You aren't swayed by men, because you pay no attention to who they are; but you teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. Is it right to pay taxes to Caesar or not? NRS 15 Should we pay them, or should we not?" But knowing their hypocrisy, he said to them, "Why are you putting me to the test? Bring me a denarius and let me see it." NIV 15 Should we pay or shouldn't we?" But Jesus knew their hypocrisy. "Why are you trying to trap me?" he asked. "Bring me a denarius and let me look at it." NRS 16 And they brought one. Then he said to them, "Whose head is this, and whose title?" They answered, "The emperor's." NIV 16 They brought the coin, and he asked them, "Whose portrait is this? And whose inscription?" "Caesar's," they replied. NRS 17 Jesus said to them, "Give to the emperor the things that are the emperor's, and to God the things that are God's." And they were utterly amazed at him. NIV 17 Then Jesus said to them, "Give to Caesar what is Caesar's and to God what is God's." And they were amazed at him.
