RSV 1 And when the sabbath was past, Mary Mag'dalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salo'me, bought spices, so that they might go and anoint him. NIV 1 When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices so that they might go to anoint Jesus' body. RSV 2 And very early on the first day of the week they went to the tomb when the sun had risen. NIV 2 Very early on the first day of the week, just after sunrise, they were on their way to the tomb RSV 3 And they were saying to one another, "Who will roll away the stone for us from the door of the tomb?" NIV 3 and they asked each other, "Who will roll the stone away from the entrance of the tomb?" RSV 4 And looking up, they saw that the stone was rolled back; --it was very large. RSV 5 And entering the tomb, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, dressed in a white robe; and they were amazed. NIV 5 As they entered the tomb, they saw a young man dressed in a white robe sitting on the right side, and they were alarmed. RSV 6 And he said to them, "Do not be amazed; you seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has risen, he is not here; see the place where they laid him. NIV 6 "Don't be alarmed," he said. "You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid him. RSV 7 But go, tell his disciples and Peter that he is going before you to Galilee; there you will see him, as he told you." NIV 7 But go, tell his disciples and Peter, 'He is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him, just as he told you.' " RSV 8 And they went out and fled from the tomb; for trembling and astonishment had come upon them; and they said nothing to any one, for they were afraid. RSV 14 Afterward he appeared to the eleven themselves as they sat at table; and he upbraided them for their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they had not believed those who saw him after he had risen. NIV 14 Later Jesus appeared to the Eleven as they were eating; he rebuked them for their lack of faith and their stubborn refusal to believe those who had seen him after he had risen. RSV 15 And he said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to the whole creation. NIV 15 He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation. RSV 16 He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. NIV 16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. RSV 17 And these signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will cast out demons; they will speak in new tongues; NIV 17 And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; RSV 18 they will pick up serpents, and if they drink any deadly thing, it will not hurt them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will recover." NIV 18 they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well." RSV 19 So then the Lord Jesus, after he had spoken to them, was taken up into heaven, and sat down at the right hand of God. NIV 19 After the Lord Jesus had spoken to them, he was taken up into heaven and he sat at the right hand of God. RSV 20 And they went forth and preached everywhere, while the Lord worked with them and confirmed the message by the signs that attended it. Amen.
