Mark 1:1-7

NLT 1 This is the Good News about Jesus the Messiah, the Son of God. It began NIV 1 The beginning of the gospel about Jesus Christ, the Son of God. NLT 2 just as the prophet Isaiah had written: “Look, I am sending my messenger ahead of you, and he will prepare your way. NIV 2 It is written in Isaiah the prophet: "I will send my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way"-- NLT 3 He is a voice shouting in the wilderness, ‘Prepare the way for the ’s coming! Clear the road for him!’ ” NIV 3 "a voice of one calling in the desert, 'Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him.' " NLT 4 This messenger was John the Baptist. He was in the wilderness and preached that people should be baptized to show that they had repented of their sins and turned to God to be forgiven. NIV 4 And so John came, baptizing in the desert region and preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. NLT 5 All of Judea, including all the people of Jerusalem, went out to see and hear John. And when they confessed their sins, he baptized them in the Jordan River. NIV 5 The whole Judean countryside and all the people of Jerusalem went out to him. Confessing their sins, they were baptized by him in the Jordan River. NLT 6 His clothes were woven from coarse camel hair, and he wore a leather belt around his waist. For food he ate locusts and wild honey. NLT 7 John announced: “Someone is coming soon who is greater than I am—so much greater that I’m not even worthy to stoop down like a slave and untie the straps of his sandals. NIV 7 And this was his message: "After me will come one more powerful than I, the thongs of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and untie.
