Mark 8:34-38

NRS 34 He called the crowd with his disciples, and said to them, "If any want to become my followers, let them deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. NIV 34 Then he called the crowd to him along with his disciples and said: "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. NRS 35 For those who want to save their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for my sake, and for the sake of the gospel, will save it. NIV 35 For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me and for the gospel will save it. NRS 36 For what will it profit them to gain the whole world and forfeit their life? NIV 36 What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, yet forfeit his soul? NRS 37 Indeed, what can they give in return for their life? NIV 37 Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul? NRS 38 Those who are ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of them the Son of Man will also be ashamed when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels." NIV 38 If anyone is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when he comes in his Father's glory with the holy angels."
