NCV 1 This is the family history of Jesus Christ. He came from the family of David, and David came from the family of Abraham. NIV 1 A record of the genealogy of Jesus Christ the son of David, the son of Abraham: NCV 2 Abraham was the fathern of Isaac. Isaac was the father of Jacob. Jacob was the father of Judah and his brothers. NIV 2 Abraham was the father of Isaac, Isaac the father of Jacob, Jacob the father of Judah and his brothers, NCV 3 Judah was the father of Perez and Zerah. (Their mother was Tamar.) Perez was the father of Hezron. Hezron was the father of Ram. NIV 3 Judah the father of Perez and Zerah, whose mother was Tamar, Perez the father of Hezron, Hezron the father of Ram, NCV 4 Ram was the father of Amminadab. Amminadab was the father of Nahshon. Nahshon was the father of Salmon. NIV 4 Ram the father of Amminadab, Amminadab the father of Nahshon, Nahshon the father of Salmon, NCV 5 Salmon was the father of Boaz. (Boaz's mother was Rahab.) Boaz was the father of Obed. (Obed's mother was Ruth.) Obed was the father of Jesse. NIV 5 Salmon the father of Boaz, whose mother was Rahab, Boaz the father of Obed, whose mother was Ruth, Obed the father of Jesse, NCV 6 Jesse was the father of King David. David was the father of Solomon. (Solomon's mother had been Uriah's wife.) NIV 6 and Jesse the father of King David. David was the father of Solomon, whose mother had been Uriah's wife, NCV 7 Solomon was the father of Rehoboam. Rehoboam was the father of Abijah. Abijah was the father of Asa. NIV 7 Solomon the father of Rehoboam, Rehoboam the father of Abijah, Abijah the father of Asa, NCV 8 Asa was the father of Jehoshaphat. Jehoshaphat was the father of Jehoram. Jehoram was the ancestor of Uzziah. NIV 8 Asa the father of Jehoshaphat, Jehoshaphat the father of Jehoram, Jehoram the father of Uzziah, NCV 9 Uzziah was the father of Jotham. Jotham was the father of Ahaz. Ahaz was the father of Hezekiah. NIV 9 Uzziah the father of Jotham, Jotham the father of Ahaz, Ahaz the father of Hezekiah, NCV 10 Hezekiah was the father of Manasseh. Manasseh was the father of Amon. Amon was the father of Josiah. NIV 10 Hezekiah the father of Manasseh, Manasseh the father of Amon, Amon the father of Josiah, NCV 11 Josiah was the grandfather of Jehoiachin and his brothers. (This was at the time that the people were taken to Babylon.) NIV 11 and Josiah the father of Jeconiah and his brothers at the time of the exile to Babylon. NCV 12 After they were taken to Babylon: Jehoiachin was the father of Shealtiel. Shealtiel was the grandfather of Zerubbabel. NIV 12 After the exile to Babylon: Jeconiah was the father of Shealtiel, Shealtiel the father of Zerubbabel, NCV 13 Zerubbabel was the father of Abiud. Abiud was the father of Eliakim. Eliakim was the father of Azor. NIV 13 Zerubbabel the father of Abiud, Abiud the father of Eliakim, Eliakim the father of Azor, NCV 14 Azor was the father of Zadok. Zadok was the father of Akim. Akim was the father of Eliud. NIV 14 Azor the father of Zadok, Zadok the father of Akim, Akim the father of Eliud, NCV 15 Eliud was the father of Eleazar. Eleazar was the father of Matthan. Matthan was the father of Jacob. NIV 15 Eliud the father of Eleazar, Eleazar the father of Matthan, Matthan the father of Jacob, NCV 16 Jacob was the father of Joseph. Joseph was the husband of Mary, and Mary was the mother of Jesus. Jesus is called the Christ. NIV 16 and Jacob the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ. NCV 17 So there were fourteen generations from Abraham to David. And there were fourteen generations from David until the people were taken to Babylon. And there were fourteen generations from the time when the people were taken to Babylon until Christ was born. NIV 17 Thus there were fourteen generations in all from Abraham to David, fourteen from David to the exile to Babylon, and fourteen from the exile to the Christ. NCV 18 This is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about. His mother Mary was engagedn to marry Joseph, but before they married, she learned she was pregnant by the power of the Holy Spirit. NIV 18 This is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be with child through the Holy Spirit. NCV 19 Because Mary's husband, Joseph, was a good man, he did not want to disgrace her in public, so he planned to divorce her secretly. NIV 19 Because Joseph her husband was a righteous man and did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly. NCV 20 While Joseph thought about these things, an angel of the Lord came to him in a dream. The angel said, "Joseph, descendant of David, don't be afraid to take Mary as your wife, because the baby in her is from the Holy Spirit. NIV 20 But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, "Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. NCV 21 She will give birth to a son, and you will name him Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins." NIV 21 She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins." NCV 22 All this happened to bring about what the Lord had said through the prophet: NIV 22 All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: NCV 23 "The virgin will be pregnant. She will have a son, and they will name him Immanuel," which means "God is with us." NIV 23 "The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel"--which means, "God with us." NCV 24 When Joseph woke up, he did what the Lord's angel had told him to do. Joseph took Mary as his wife, NIV 24 When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary home as his wife. NCV 25 but he did not have sexual relations with her until she gave birth to the son. And Joseph named him Jesus. NIV 25 But he had no union with her until she gave birth to a son. And he gave him the name Jesus.
