Matthew 10

CSB 1 Summoning His 12 disciples, He gave them authority over unclean spirits, to drive them out and to heal every disease and sickness. NIV 1 He called his twelve disciples to him and gave them authority to drive out evil spirits and to heal every disease and sickness. CSB 2 These are the names of the 12 apostles: First, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother; NIV 2 These are the names of the twelve apostles: first, Simon (who is called Peter) and his brother Andrew; James son of Zebedee, and his brother John; CSB 3 Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew the tax collector; James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus; NIV 3 Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew the tax collector; James son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus; CSB 4 Simon the Zealot, and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed Him. CSB 5 Jesus sent out these 12 after giving them instructions: "Don't take the road leading to other nations, and don't enter any Samaritan town. NIV 5 These twelve Jesus sent out with the following instructions: "Do not go among the Gentiles or enter any town of the Samaritans. CSB 6 Instead, go to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. NIV 6 Go rather to the lost sheep of Israel. CSB 7 As you go, announce this: 'The kingdom of heaven has come near.' NIV 7 As you go, preach this message: 'The kingdom of heaven is near.' CSB 8 Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those with skin diseases, drive out demons. You have received free of charge; give free of charge. NIV 8 Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received, freely give. CSB 9 Don't take along gold, silver, or copper for your money-belts. NIV 9 Do not take along any gold or silver or copper in your belts; CSB 10 Don't take a traveling bag for the road, or an extra shirt, sandals, or a walking stick, for the worker is worthy of his food. NIV 10 take no bag for the journey, or extra tunic, or sandals or a staff; for the worker is worth his keep. CSB 11 "When you enter any town or village, find out who is worthy, and stay there until you leave. NIV 11 "Whatever town or village you enter, search for some worthy person there and stay at his house until you leave. CSB 12 Greet a household when you enter it, NIV 12 As you enter the home, give it your greeting. CSB 13 and if the household is worthy, let your peace be on it. But if it is unworthy, let your peace return to you. NIV 13 If the home is deserving, let your peace rest on it; if it is not, let your peace return to you. CSB 14 If anyone will not welcome you or listen to your words, shake the dust off your feet when you leave that house or town. CSB 15 I assure you: It will be more tolerable on the day of judgment for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah than for that town. NIV 15 I tell you the truth, it will be more bearable for Sodom and Gomorrah on the day of judgment than for that town. CSB 16 "Look, I'm sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as serpents and as harmless as doves. NIV 16 I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves. CSB 17 Because people will hand you over to sanhedrins and flog you in their synagogues, beware of them. NIV 17 "Be on your guard against men; they will hand you over to the local councils and flog you in their synagogues. CSB 18 You will even be brought before governors and kings because of Me, to bear witness to them and to the nations. NIV 18 On my account you will be brought before governors and kings as witnesses to them and to the Gentiles. CSB 19 But when they hand you over, don't worry about how or what you should speak. For you will be given what to say at that hour, NIV 19 But when they arrest you, do not worry about what to say or how to say it. At that time you will be given what to say, CSB 20 because you are not speaking, but the Spirit of your Father is speaking through you. NIV 20 for it will not be you speaking, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you. CSB 21 "Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child. Children will even rise up against their parents and have them put to death. NIV 21 "Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child; children will rebel against their parents and have them put to death. CSB 22 You will be hated by everyone because of My name. But the one who endures to the end will be delivered. NIV 22 All men will hate you because of me, but he who stands firm to the end will be saved. CSB 23 When they persecute you in one town, escape to another. For I assure you: You will not have covered the towns of Israel before the Son of Man comes. NIV 23 When you are persecuted in one place, flee to another. I tell you the truth, you will not finish going through the cities of Israel before the Son of Man comes. CSB 24 A disciple is not above his teacher, or a slave above his master. NIV 24 "A student is not above his teacher, nor a servant above his master. CSB 25 It is enough for a disciple to become like his teacher and a slave like his master. If they called the head of the house 'Beelzebul,' how much more the members of his household! NIV 25 It is enough for the student to be like his teacher, and the servant like his master. If the head of the house has been called Beelzebub, how much more the members of his household! CSB 26 "Therefore, don't be afraid of them, since there is nothing covered that won't be uncovered, and nothing hidden that won't be made known. NIV 26 "So do not be afraid of them. There is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed, or hidden that will not be made known. CSB 27 What I tell you in the dark, speak in the light. What you hear in a whisper, proclaim on the housetops. NIV 27 What I tell you in the dark, speak in the daylight; what is whispered in your ear, proclaim from the roofs. CSB 28 Don't fear those who kill the body but are not able to kill the soul; rather, fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. NIV 28 Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell. CSB 29 Aren't two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them falls to the ground without your Father's consent. NIV 29 Are not two sparrows sold for a penny ? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from the will of your Father. CSB 30 But even the hairs of your head have all been counted. NIV 30 And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. CSB 31 Don't be afraid therefore; you are worth more than many sparrows. NIV 31 So don't be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows. CSB 32 "Therefore, everyone who will acknowledge Me before men, I will also acknowledge him before My Father in heaven. NIV 32 "Whoever acknowledges me before men, I will also acknowledge him before my Father in heaven. CSB 33 But whoever denies Me before men, I will also deny him before My Father in heaven. NIV 33 But whoever disowns me before men, I will disown him before my Father in heaven. CSB 34 Don't assume that I came to bring peace on the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. NIV 34 "Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. CSB 35 For I came to turn a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; NIV 35 For I have come to turn " 'a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law-- CSB 36 and a man's enemies will be the members of his household. NIV 36 a man's enemies will be the members of his own household.' CSB 37 The person who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me; the person who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me. NIV 37 "Anyone who loves his father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves his son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me; CSB 38 And whoever doesn't take up his cross and follow Me is not worthy of Me. NIV 38 and anyone who does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. CSB 39 Anyone finding his life will lose it, and anyone losing his life because of Me will find it. NIV 39 Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. CSB 40 "The one who welcomes you welcomes Me, and the one who welcomes Me welcomes Him who sent Me. NIV 40 "He who receives you receives me, and he who receives me receives the one who sent me. CSB 41 Anyone who welcomes a prophet because he is a prophet will receive a prophet's reward. And anyone who welcomes a righteous person because he's righteous will receive a righteous person's reward. NIV 41 Anyone who receives a prophet because he is a prophet will receive a prophet's reward, and anyone who receives a righteous man because he is a righteous man will receive a righteous man's reward. CSB 42 And whoever gives just a cup of cold water to one of these little ones because he is a disciple -I assure you: He will never lose his reward!" NIV 42 And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones because he is my disciple, I tell you the truth, he will certainly not lose his reward."
