Matthew 10

WNT 1 Then He called to Him His twelve disciples and gave them authority over foul spirits, to drive them out; and to cure every kind of disease and infirmity. NIV 1 He called his twelve disciples to him and gave them authority to drive out evil spirits and to heal every disease and sickness. WNT 2 Now the names of the twelve Apostles were these: first, Simon called Peter, and his brother Andrew; James the son of Zabdi, and his brother John; NIV 2 These are the names of the twelve apostles: first, Simon (who is called Peter) and his brother Andrew; James son of Zebedee, and his brother John; WNT 3 Philip and Bartholomew, Thomas and Matthew the tax-gatherer, James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus; NIV 3 Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew the tax collector; James son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus; WNT 4 Simon the Cananaean, and Judas the Iscariot, who also betrayed Him. NIV 4 Simon the Zealot and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed him. WNT 5 These twelve Jesus sent on a mission, after giving them their instructions: "Go not," He said, "among the Gentiles, and enter no Samaritan town; NIV 5 These twelve Jesus sent out with the following instructions: "Do not go among the Gentiles or enter any town of the Samaritans. WNT 6 but, instead of that, go to the lost sheep of Israel's race. NIV 6 Go rather to the lost sheep of Israel. WNT 7 And as you go, preach and say, `The Kingdom of the Heavens is close at hand.' NIV 7 As you go, preach this message: 'The kingdom of heaven is near.' WNT 8 Cure the sick, raise the dead to life, cleanse lepers, drive out demons: you have received without payment, give without payment. NIV 8 Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received, freely give. WNT 9 "Provide no gold, nor even silver nor copper to carry in your pockets; NIV 9 Do not take along any gold or silver or copper in your belts; WNT 10 no bag for your journey, nor change of linen, nor shoes, nor stick; for the labourer deserves his food. NIV 10 take no bag for the journey, or extra tunic, or sandals or a staff; for the worker is worth his keep. WNT 11 "Whatever town or village you enter, inquire for some good man; and make his house your home till you leave the place. NIV 11 "Whatever town or village you enter, search for some worthy person there and stay at his house until you leave. WNT 12 When you enter the house, salute it; NIV 12 As you enter the home, give it your greeting. WNT 13 and if the house deserves it, the peace you invoke shall come upon it. If not, your peace shall return to you. NIV 13 If the home is deserving, let your peace rest on it; if it is not, let your peace return to you. WNT 14 And whoever refuses to receive you or even to listen to your Message, as you leave that house or town, shake off the very dust from your feet. NIV 14 If anyone will not welcome you or listen to your words, shake the dust off your feet when you leave that home or town. WNT 15 I solemnly tell you that it will be more endurable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah on the day of Judgement than for that town. NIV 15 I tell you the truth, it will be more bearable for Sodom and Gomorrah on the day of judgment than for that town. WNT 16 "Remember it is I who am sending you out, as sheep into the midst of wolves; prove yourselves as sagacious as serpents, and as innocent as doves. NIV 16 I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves. WNT 17 But beware of men; for they will deliver you up to appear before Sanhedrins, and will flog you in their synagogues; NIV 17 "Be on your guard against men; they will hand you over to the local councils and flog you in their synagogues. WNT 18 and you will even be put on trial before governors and kings for my sake, to bear witness to them and to the Gentiles. NIV 18 On my account you will be brought before governors and kings as witnesses to them and to the Gentiles. WNT 19 But when they have delivered you up, have no anxiety as to how you shall speak or what you shall say; for at that very time it shall be given you what to say; NIV 19 But when they arrest you, do not worry about what to say or how to say it. At that time you will be given what to say, WNT 20 for it is not you who will speak: it will be the Spirit of your Father speaking through you. NIV 20 for it will not be you speaking, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you. WNT 21 Brother will betray brother to death, and father, child; and children will rise against their own parents and will put them to death. NIV 21 "Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child; children will rebel against their parents and have them put to death. WNT 22 And you will be objects of universal hatred because you are called by my name; but he who holds out to the End--he will be saved. NIV 22 All men will hate you because of me, but he who stands firm to the end will be saved. WNT 23 Whenever they persecute you in one town, escape to the next; for I solemnly tell you that you will not have gone the round of all the towns of Israel before the Son of Man comes. NIV 23 When you are persecuted in one place, flee to another. I tell you the truth, you will not finish going through the cities of Israel before the Son of Man comes. WNT 24 "The learner is never superior to his teacher, and the servant is never superior to his master. NIV 24 "A student is not above his teacher, nor a servant above his master. WNT 25 Enough for the learner to be on a level with his teacher, and for the servant to be on a level with his master. If they have called the master of the house Baal-zebul, how much more will they slander his servants? NIV 25 It is enough for the student to be like his teacher, and the servant like his master. If the head of the house has been called Beelzebub, how much more the members of his household! WNT 26 Fear them not, however; there is nothing veiled which will not be uncovered, nor secret which will not become known. NIV 26 "So do not be afraid of them. There is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed, or hidden that will not be made known. WNT 27 What I tell you in the dark, speak in the light; and what is whispered into your ear, proclaim upon the roofs of the houses. NIV 27 What I tell you in the dark, speak in the daylight; what is whispered in your ear, proclaim from the roofs. WNT 28 "And do not fear those who kill the body, but cannot kill the soul; but rather fear him who is able to destroy both soul and body in Gehenna. NIV 28 Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell. WNT 29 Do not two sparrows sell for a halfpenny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground without your Father's leave. NIV 29 Are not two sparrows sold for a penny ? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from the will of your Father. WNT 30 But as for you, the very hairs on your heads are all numbered. NIV 30 And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. WNT 31 Away then with fear; you are more precious than a multitude of sparrows. NIV 31 So don't be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows. WNT 32 "Every man who acknowledges me before men I also will acknowledge before my Father who is in Heaven. NIV 32 "Whoever acknowledges me before men, I will also acknowledge him before my Father in heaven. WNT 33 But whoever disowns me before men I also will disown before my Father who is in Heaven. NIV 33 But whoever disowns me before men, I will disown him before my Father in heaven. WNT 34 "Do not suppose that I came to bring peace to the earth: I did not come to bring peace but a sword. NIV 34 "Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. WNT 35 For I came to set a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; NIV 35 For I have come to turn " 'a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law-- WNT 36 and a man's own family will be his foes. NIV 36 a man's enemies will be the members of his own household.' WNT 37 Any one who loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, and any one who loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me; NIV 37 "Anyone who loves his father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves his son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me; WNT 38 and any one who does not take up his cross and follow where I lead is not worthy of me. NIV 38 and anyone who does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. WNT 39 To save your life is to lose it, and to lose your life for my sake is to save it. NIV 39 Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. WNT 40 "Whoever receives you receives me, and whoever receives me receives Him who sent me. NIV 40 "He who receives you receives me, and he who receives me receives the one who sent me. WNT 41 Every one who receives a prophet, because he is a prophet, will receive a prophet's reward, and every one who receives a righteous man, because he is a righteous man, will receive a righteous man's reward. NIV 41 Anyone who receives a prophet because he is a prophet will receive a prophet's reward, and anyone who receives a righteous man because he is a righteous man will receive a righteous man's reward. WNT 42 And whoever gives one of these little ones even a cup of cold water to drink because he is a disciple, I solemnly tell you that he will not lose his reward." NIV 42 And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones because he is my disciple, I tell you the truth, he will certainly not lose his reward."
