Matthew 10:16-25

ESV 16 "Behold, I am sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves, so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves. NIV 16 I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves. ESV 17 Beware of men, for they will deliver you over to courts and flog you in their synagogues, NIV 17 "Be on your guard against men; they will hand you over to the local councils and flog you in their synagogues. ESV 18 and you will be dragged before governors and kings for my sake, to bear witness before them and the Gentiles. NIV 18 On my account you will be brought before governors and kings as witnesses to them and to the Gentiles. ESV 19 When they deliver you over, do not be anxious how you are to speak or what you are to say, for what you are to say will be given to you in that hour. NIV 19 But when they arrest you, do not worry about what to say or how to say it. At that time you will be given what to say, ESV 20 For it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you. NIV 20 for it will not be you speaking, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you. ESV 21 Brother will deliver brother over to death, and the father his child, and children will rise against parents and have them put to death, NIV 21 "Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child; children will rebel against their parents and have them put to death. ESV 22 and you will be hated by all for my name's sake. But the one who endures to the end will be saved. NIV 22 All men will hate you because of me, but he who stands firm to the end will be saved. ESV 23 When they persecute you in one town, flee to the next, for truly, I say to you, you will not have gone through all the towns of Israel before the Son of Man comes. NIV 23 When you are persecuted in one place, flee to another. I tell you the truth, you will not finish going through the cities of Israel before the Son of Man comes. ESV 24 "A disciple is not above his teacher, nor a servant above his master. NIV 24 "A student is not above his teacher, nor a servant above his master. ESV 25 It is enough for the disciple to be like his teacher, and the servant like his master. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebul, how much more will they malign those of his household. NIV 25 It is enough for the student to be like his teacher, and the servant like his master. If the head of the house has been called Beelzebub, how much more the members of his household!
