Matthew 14:10-20

Hearing of this, the crowds followed him on foot from the towns. NRS 14 When he went ashore, he saw a great crowd; and he had compassion for them and cured their sick. NIV 14 When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them and healed their sick. NRS 15 When it was evening, the disciples came to him and said, "This is a deserted place, and the hour is now late; send the crowds away so that they may go into the villages and buy food for themselves." NIV 15 As evening approached, the disciples came to him and said, "This is a remote place, and it's already getting late. Send the crowds away, so they can go to the villages and buy themselves some food." NRS 16 Jesus said to them, "They need not go away; you give them something to eat." NIV 16 Jesus replied, "They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat." NRS 17 They replied, "We have nothing here but five loaves and two fish." NIV 17 "We have here only five loaves of bread and two fish," they answered. NRS 18 And he said, "Bring them here to me." NIV 18 "Bring them here to me," he said. NRS 19 Then he ordered the crowds to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish, he looked up to heaven, and blessed and broke the loaves, and gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the crowds. NIV 19 And he directed the people to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves. Then he gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the people. NRS 20 And all ate and were filled; and they took up what was left over of the broken pieces, twelve baskets full. NIV 20 They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over.
