Matthew 16:13-28

KJV 13 When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying , Whom do men say that I the Son of man am ? NIV 13 When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, "Who do people say the Son of Man is?" KJV 14 And they said , Some say that thou art John the Baptist : some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets. NIV 14 They replied, "Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets." KJV 15 He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am ? NIV 15 "But what about you?" he asked. "Who do you say I am?" KJV 16 And Simon Peter answered and said , Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. NIV 16 Simon Peter answered, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." KJV 17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou , Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. NIV 17 Jesus replied, "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in heaven. KJV 18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. NIV 18 And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it. KJV 19 And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. NIV 19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven." KJV 20 Then charged he his disciples that they should tell no man that he was Jesus the Christ. NIV 20 Then he warned his disciples not to tell anyone that he was the Christ. KJV 21 From that time forth began Jesus to shew unto his disciples, how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed , and be raised again the third day. NIV 21 From that time on Jesus began to explain to his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things at the hands of the elders, chief priests and teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life. KJV 22 Then Peter took him, and began to rebuke him, saying , Be it far from thee, Lord: this shall not be unto thee. NIV 22 Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. "Never, Lord!" he said. "This shall never happen to you!" KJV 23 But he turned , and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men. NIV 23 Jesus turned and said to Peter, "Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me; you do not have in mind the things of God, but the things of men." KJV 24 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. NIV 24 Then Jesus said to his disciples, "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. KJV 25 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it. NIV 25 For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will find it. KJV 26 For what is a man profited , if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? NIV 26 What good will it be for a man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeits his soul? Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul? KJV 27 For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works. NIV 27 For the Son of Man is going to come in his Father's glory with his angels, and then he will reward each person according to what he has done. KJV 28 Verily I say unto you, There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom. NIV 28 I tell you the truth, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom."
