Matthew 17:1-20

CSB 1 After six days Jesus took Peter, James, and his brother John, and led them up on a high mountain by themselves. NIV 1 After six days Jesus took with him Peter, James and John the brother of James, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. CSB 2 He was transformed in front of them, and His face shone like the sun. Even His clothes became as white as the light. NIV 2 There he was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as the light. CSB 3 Suddenly, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, talking with Him. NIV 3 Just then there appeared before them Moses and Elijah, talking with Jesus. CSB 4 Then Peter said to Jesus, "Lord, it's good for us to be here! If You want, I will make three tabernacles here: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah." NIV 4 Peter said to Jesus, "Lord, it is good for us to be here. If you wish, I will put up three shelters--one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah." CSB 5 While he was still speaking, suddenly a bright cloud covered them, and a voice from the cloud said: This is My beloved Son. I take delight in Him. Listen to Him! NIV 5 While he was still speaking, a bright cloud enveloped them, and a voice from the cloud said, "This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!" CSB 6 When the disciples heard it, they fell facedown and were terrified. NIV 6 When the disciples heard this, they fell facedown to the ground, terrified. CSB 7 Then Jesus came up, touched them, and said, "Get up; don't be afraid." NIV 7 But Jesus came and touched them. "Get up," he said. "Don't be afraid." CSB 9 As they were coming down from the mountain, Jesus commanded them, "Don't tell anyone about the vision until the Son of Man is raised from the dead." CSB 10 So the disciples questioned Him, "Why then do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?" NIV 10 The disciples asked him, "Why then do the teachers of the law say that Elijah must come first?" CSB 11 "Elijah is coming and will restore everything," He replied. NIV 11 Jesus replied, "To be sure, Elijah comes and will restore all things. CSB 12 "But I tell you: Elijah has already come, and they didn't recognize him. On the contrary, they did whatever they pleased to him. In the same way the Son of Man is going to suffer at their hands." NIV 12 But I tell you, Elijah has already come, and they did not recognize him, but have done to him everything they wished. In the same way the Son of Man is going to suffer at their hands." CSB 13 Then the disciples understood that He spoke to them about John the Baptist. NIV 13 Then the disciples understood that he was talking to them about John the Baptist. CSB 14 When they reached the crowd, a man approached and knelt down before Him. NIV 14 When they came to the crowd, a man approached Jesus and knelt before him. CSB 15 "Lord," he said, "have mercy on my son, because he has seizures and suffers severely. He often falls into the fire and often into the water. NIV 15 "Lord, have mercy on my son," he said. Bring him here to Me." NIV 17 "O unbelieving and perverse generation," Jesus replied, "how long shall I stay with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring the boy here to me." CSB 18 Then Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of him, and from that moment the boy was healed. NIV 18 Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of the boy, and he was healed from that moment. CSB 19 Then the disciples approached Jesus privately and said, "Why couldn't we drive it out?" NIV 19 Then the disciples came to Jesus in private and asked, "Why couldn't we drive it out?" CSB 20 "Because of your little faith," He told them. "For I assure you: If you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will tell this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you. [ NIV 20 He replied, "Because you have so little faith. I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you. "
