NRS 20 Then the mother of the sons of Zebedee came to him with her sons, and kneeling before him, she asked a favor of him. NIV 20 Then the mother of Zebedee's sons came to Jesus with her sons and, kneeling down, asked a favor of him. NRS 21 And he said to her, "What do you want?" She said to him, "Declare that these two sons of mine will sit, one at your right hand and one at your left, in your kingdom." NIV 21 "What is it you want?" he asked. She said, "Grant that one of these two sons of mine may sit at your right and the other at your left in your kingdom." NRS 22 But Jesus answered, "You do not know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I am about to drink?" They said to him, "We are able." NIV 22 "You don't know what you are asking," Jesus said to them. "Can you drink the cup I am going to drink?" "We can," they answered. NRS 23 He said to them, "You will indeed drink my cup, but to sit at my right hand and at my left, this is not mine to grant, but it is for those for whom it has been prepared by my Father." NIV 23 Jesus said to them, "You will indeed drink from my cup, but to sit at my right or left is not for me to grant. These places belong to those for whom they have been prepared by my Father." NRS 24 When the ten heard it, they were angry with the two brothers. NIV 24 When the ten heard about this, they were indignant with the two brothers. NRS 25 But Jesus called them to him and said, "You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones are tyrants over them. NIV 25 Jesus called them together and said, "You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them. NRS 26 It will not be so among you; but whoever wishes to be great among you must be your servant, NIV 26 Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, NRS 27 and whoever wishes to be first among you must be your slave; NIV 27 and whoever wants to be first must be your slave-- NRS 28 just as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life a ransom for many." NIV 28 just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."
