Matthew 21

NAS 1 When they had approached Jerusalem and had come to Bethphage, at the Mount of Olives, then Jesus sent two disciples, NIV 1 As they approached Jerusalem and came to Bethphage on the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two disciples, NAS 2 saying to them, "Go into the village opposite you, and immediately you will find a donkey tied there and a colt with her; untie them and bring them to Me. NAS 11 And the crowds were saying, "This is the prophet Jesus, from Nazareth in Galilee." NIV 11 The crowds answered, "This is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth in Galilee." NAS 12 And Jesus entered the temple and drove out all those who were buying and selling in the temple, and overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who were selling doves. NAS 13 And He said to them, "It is written, 'MY HOUSE SHALL BE CALLED A HOUSE OF PRAYER '; but you are making it a ROBBERS' DEN." NIV 13 "It is written," he said to them, " 'My house will be called a house of prayer,' but you are making it a 'den of robbers.' " NAS 14 And the blind and the lame came to Him in the temple, and He healed them. NIV 14 The blind and the lame came to him at the temple, and he healed them. NIV 16 "Do you hear what these children are saying?" they asked him. "Yes," replied Jesus, "have you never read, " 'From the lips of children and infants you have ordained praise' ?" NAS 17 And He left them and went out of the city to Bethany, and spent the night there. NIV 17 And he left them and went out of the city to Bethany, where he spent the night. Immediately the tree withered. NAS 20 Seeing this, the disciples were amazed and asked, "How did the fig tree wither all at once?" NIV 20 When the disciples saw this, they were amazed. "How did the fig tree wither so quickly?" they asked. NAS 21 And Jesus answered and said to them, "Truly I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what was done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, 'Be taken up and cast into the sea,' it will happen. NIV 21 Jesus replied, "I tell you the truth, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, 'Go, throw yourself into the sea,' and it will be done. NAS 22 "And all things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive." NIV 22 If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer." NAS 23 When He entered the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came to Him while He was teaching, and said, "By what authority are You doing these things, and who gave You this authority?" NIV 23 Jesus entered the temple courts, and, while he was teaching, the chief priests and the elders of the people came to him. "By what authority are you doing these things?" they asked. "And who gave you this authority?" NAS 24 Jesus said to them, "I will also ask you one thing, which if you tell Me, I will also tell you by what authority I do these things. NIV 24 Jesus replied, "I will also ask you one question. If you answer me, I will tell you by what authority I am doing these things. NAS 25 "The baptism of John was from what source, from heaven or from men?" And they began reasoning among themselves, saying, "If we say, 'From heaven,' He will say to us, 'Then why did you not believe him?' NIV 25 John's baptism--where did it come from? Was it from heaven, or from men?" They discussed it among themselves and said, "If we say, 'From heaven,' he will ask, 'Then why didn't you believe him?' NAS 26 "But if we say, 'From men,' we fear the people; for they all regard John as a prophet." NIV 26 But if we say, 'From men'--we are afraid of the people, for they all hold that John was a prophet." NAS 27 And answering Jesus, they said, "We do not know." He also said to them, "Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things. NIV 27 So they answered Jesus, "We don't know." Then he said, "Neither will I tell you by what authority I am doing these things. NAS 28 "But what do you think? A man had two sons, and he came to the first and said, 'Son, go work today in the vineyard.' NIV 28 "What do you think? There was a man who had two sons. He went to the first and said, 'Son, go and work today in the vineyard.' NAS 29 "And he answered, 'I will not'; but afterward he regretted it and went. NIV 29 " 'I will not,' he answered, but later he changed his mind and went. NAS 30 "The man came to the second and said the same thing; and he answered, 'I will, sir '; but he did not go. NIV 30 "Then the father went to the other son and said the same thing. He answered, 'I will, sir,' but he did not go. NAS 31 "Which of the two did the will of his father?" They said, "The first." Jesus said to them, "Truly I say to you that the tax collectors and prostitutes will get into the kingdom of God before you. NIV 31 "Which of the two did what his father wanted?" "The first," they answered. Jesus said to them, "I tell you the truth, the tax collectors and the prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God ahead of you. NAS 32 "For John came to you in the way of righteousness and you did not believe him; but the tax collectors and prostitutes did believe him; and you, seeing this, did not even feel remorse afterward so as to believe him. NIV 32 For John came to you to show you the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and the prostitutes did. And even after you saw this, you did not repent and believe him. NAS 33 "Listen to another parable. There was a landowner who PLANTED A VINEYARD AND PUT A WALL AROUND IT AND DUG A WINE PRESS IN IT, AND BUILT A TOWER, and rented it out to vine-growers and went on a journey. NIV 33 "Listen to another parable: There was a landowner who planted a vineyard. He put a wall around it, dug a winepress in it and built a watchtower. Then he rented the vineyard to some farmers and went away on a journey. NAS 34 "When the harvest time approached, he sent his slaves to the vine-growers to receive his produce. NIV 34 When the harvest time approached, he sent his servants to the tenants to collect his fruit. NAS 35 "The vine-growers took his slaves and beat one, and killed another , and stoned a third. NIV 35 "The tenants seized his servants; they beat one, killed another, and stoned a third. NAS 36 "Again he sent another group of slaves larger than the first; and they did the same thing to them. NIV 36 Then he sent other servants to them, more than the first time, and the tenants treated them the same way. NAS 37 "But afterward he sent his son to them, saying, 'They will respect my son.' NIV 37 Last of all, he sent his son to them. 'They will respect my son,' he said. NAS 38 "But when the vine-growers saw the son, they said among themselves, 'This is the heir; come, let us kill him and seize his inheritance.' NIV 38 "But when the tenants saw the son, they said to each other, 'This is the heir. Come, let's kill him and take his inheritance.' NAS 39 "They took him, and threw him out of the vineyard and killed him. NIV 39 So they took him and threw him out of the vineyard and killed him. NAS 40 "Therefore when the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those vine-growers?" NIV 40 "Therefore, when the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those tenants?" NAS 41 They said to Him, "He will bring those wretches to a wretched end, and will rent out the vineyard to other vine-growers who will pay him the proceeds at the proper seasons." NIV 41 "He will bring those wretches to a wretched end," they replied, "and he will rent the vineyard to other tenants, who will give him his share of the crop at harvest time." NAS 42 Jesus said to them, "Did you never read in the Scriptures, 'THE STONE WHICH THE BUILDERS REJECTED, THIS BECAME THE CHIEF CORNER stone; THIS CAME ABOUT FROM THE LORD , AND IT IS MARVELOUS IN OUR EYES '? NIV 42 Jesus said to them, "Have you never read in the Scriptures: " 'The stone the builders rejected has become the capstone; the Lord has done this, and it is marvelous in our eyes' ? NAS 43 "Therefore I say to you, the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people, producing the fruit of it. NIV 43 "Therefore I tell you that the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people who will produce its fruit. NAS 44 "And he who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces; but on whomever it falls, it will scatter him like dust." NIV 44 He who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces, but he on whom it falls will be crushed." NAS 45 When the chief priests and the Pharisees heard His parables, they understood that He was speaking about them. NIV 45 When the chief priests and the Pharisees heard Jesus' parables, they knew he was talking about them. NAS 46 When they sought to seize Him, they feared the people, because they considered Him to be a prophet. NIV 46 They looked for a way to arrest him, but they were afraid of the crowd because the people held that he was a prophet.
