NIV 4 "Then he sent some more servants and said, 'Tell those who have been invited that I have prepared my dinner: My oxen and fattened cattle have been butchered, and everything is ready. Come to the wedding banquet.' NAS 5 "But they paid no attention and went their way, one to his own farm, another to his business, NIV 5 "But they paid no attention and went off--one to his field, another to his business. NAS 11 "But when the king came in to look over the dinner guests, he saw a man there who was not dressed in wedding clothes, NIV 11 "But when the king came in to see the guests, he noticed a man there who was not wearing wedding clothes. NAS 12 and he said to him, 'Friend, how did you come in here without wedding clothes?' And the man was speechless. NIV 12 'Friend,' he asked, 'how did you get in here without wedding clothes?' The man was speechless. NAS 13 "Then the king said to the servants, 'Bind him hand and foot, and throw him into the outer darkness; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.' NIV 13 "Then the king told the attendants, 'Tie him hand and foot, and throw him outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.' NAS 14 "For many are called, but few are chosen." NIV 14 "For many are invited, but few are chosen." NAS 15 Then the Pharisees went and plotted together how they might trap Him in what He said. NIV 15 Then the Pharisees went out and laid plans to trap him in his words. NAS 16 And they sent their disciples to Him, along with the Herodians, saying, "Teacher, we know that You are truthful and teach the way of God in truth, and defer to no one; for You are not partial to any. NIV 16 They sent their disciples to him along with the Herodians. "Teacher," they said, "we know you are a man of integrity and that you teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. You aren't swayed by men, because you pay no attention to who they are. NAS 17 "Tell us then, what do You think? Is it lawful to give a poll-tax to Caesar, or not?" NIV 17 Tell us then, what is your opinion? Is it right to pay taxes to Caesar or not?" NAS 18 But Jesus perceived their malice, and said, "Why are you testing Me, you hypocrites? NIV 18 But Jesus, knowing their evil intent, said, "You hypocrites, why are you trying to trap me? NAS 19 "Show Me the coin used for the poll-tax." And they brought Him a denarius. NIV 19 Show me the coin used for paying the tax." They brought him a denarius, NAS 20 And He said to them, "Whose likeness and inscription is this?" NIV 20 and he asked them, "Whose portrait is this? And whose inscription?" NAS 21 They said to Him, "Caesar's." Then He said to them, "Then render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's; and to God the things that are God's." NIV 21 "Caesar's," they replied. Then he said to them, "Give to Caesar what is Caesar's, and to God what is God's." NAS 22 And hearing this, they were amazed, and leaving Him, they went away. NIV 22 When they heard this, they were amazed. So they left him and went away. NAS 23 On that day some Sadducees (who say there is no resurrection ) came to Jesus and questioned Him, NIV 23 That same day the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to him with a question. NAS 24 asking, "Teacher, Moses said, 'IF A MAN DIES HAVING NO CHILDREN, HIS BROTHER AS NEXT OF KIN SHALL MARRY HIS WIFE, AND RAISE UP CHILDREN FOR HIS BROTHER.' NIV 24 "Teacher," they said, "Moses told us that if a man dies without having children, his brother must marry the widow and have children for him. NAS 25 "Now there were seven brothers with us; and the first married and died, and having no children left his wife to his brother; NIV 25 Now there were seven brothers among us. The first one married and died, and since he had no children, he left his wife to his brother. NAS 26 so also the second, and the third, down to the seventh. NIV 26 The same thing happened to the second and third brother, right on down to the seventh. NAS 27 "Last of all, the woman died. NIV 27 Finally, the woman died. NAS 28 "In the resurrection, therefore, whose wife of the seven will she be? For they all had married her." NIV 28 Now then, at the resurrection, whose wife will she be of the seven, since all of them were married to her?" NAS 29 But Jesus answered and said to them, "You are mistaken, not understanding the Scriptures nor the power of God. NIV 29 Jesus replied, "You are in error because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God. NAS 30 "For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven. NIV 30 At the resurrection people will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven. NAS 31 "But regarding the resurrection of the dead, have you not read what was spoken to you by God: NIV 31 But about the resurrection of the dead--have you not read what God said to you, NAS 32 'I AM THE GOD OF ABRAHAM, AND THE GOD OF ISAAC, AND THE GOD OF JACOB '? He is not the God of the dead but of the living." NIV 32 'I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob' ? He is not the God of the dead but of the living." NAS 33 When the crowds heard this, they were astonished at His teaching. NIV 33 When the crowds heard this, they were astonished at his teaching. NAS 34 But when the Pharisees heard that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered themselves together . NIV 34 Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees got together. NAS 35 One of them, a lawyer, asked Him a question, testing Him, NIV 35 One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question: NAS 36 "Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?" NIV 36 "Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?" NAS 37 And He said to him, " 'YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND.' NIV 37 Jesus replied: " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' NAS 38 "This is the great and foremost commandment. NIV 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. NAS 39 "The second is like it, 'YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.' NIV 39 And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' NAS 40 "On these two commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets." NIV 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments." NAS 41 Now while the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them a question: NIV 41 While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them, NAS 42 "What do you think about the Christ, whose son is He?" They said to Him, "The son of David." NIV 42 "What do you think about the Christ ? Whose son is he?" "The son of David," they replied. NAS 43 He said to them, "Then how does David in the Spirit call Him 'Lord ,' saying, NIV 43 He said to them, "How is it then that David, speaking by the Spirit, calls him 'Lord'? For he says, NAS 44 'THE LORD SAID TO MY LORD , "SIT AT MY RIGHT HAND, UNTIL I PUT YOUR ENEMIES BENEATH YOUR FEET "'? NIV 44 " 'The Lord said to my Lord: "Sit at my right hand until I put your enemies under your feet." ' NAS 45 "If David then calls Him 'Lord ,' how is He his son?" NIV 45 If then David calls him 'Lord,' how can he be his son?" NAS 46 No one was able to answer Him a word, nor did anyone dare from that day on to ask Him another question. NIV 46 No one could say a word in reply, and from that day on no one dared to ask him any more questions.
