Matthew 22:35-45

ESV 35 And one of them, a lawyer, asked him a question to test him. NIV 35 One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question: ESV 36 "Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?" NIV 36 "Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?" ESV 37 And he said to him, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. NIV 37 Jesus replied: " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' ESV 38 This is the great and first commandment. NIV 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. ESV 39 And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. NIV 39 And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' ESV 40 On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets." NIV 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments." ESV 41 Now while the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them a question, NIV 41 While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them, ESV 42 saying, "What do you think about the Christ? Whose son is he?" They said to him, "The son of David." NIV 42 "What do you think about the Christ ? Whose son is he?" "The son of David," they replied. ESV 43 He said to them, "How is it then that David, in the Spirit, calls him Lord, saying, NIV 43 He said to them, "How is it then that David, speaking by the Spirit, calls him 'Lord'? For he says, ESV 44 "'The Lord said to my Lord, Sit at my right hand, until I put your enemies under your feet'? NIV 44 " 'The Lord said to my Lord: "Sit at my right hand until I put your enemies under your feet." ' ESV 45 If then David calls him Lord, how is he his son?" NIV 45 If then David calls him 'Lord,' how can he be his son?"
