Matthew 24

NAS 1 Jesus came out from the temple and was going away when His disciples came up to point out the temple buildings to Him. NIV 1 Jesus left the temple and was walking away when his disciples came up to him to call his attention to its buildings. NAS 2 And He said to them, "Do you not see all these things? Truly I say to you, not one stone here will be left upon another, which will not be torn down." NIV 2 "Do you see all these things?" he asked. "I tell you the truth, not one stone here will be left on another; every one will be thrown down." NAS 3 As He was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately , saying, "Tell us, when will these things happen, and what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?" NIV 3 As Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately. "Tell us," they said, "when will this happen, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?" NAS 4 And Jesus answered and said to them, "See to it that no one misleads you. NIV 4 Jesus answered: "Watch out that no one deceives you. NAS 5 "For many will come in My name, saying, 'I am the Christ,' and will mislead many. NIV 5 For many will come in my name, claiming, 'I am the Christ, ' and will deceive many. NAS 6 "You will be hearing of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not frightened, for those things must take place, but that is not yet the end. NIV 6 You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. NAS 7 "For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and in various places there will be famines and earthquakes. NIV 7 Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. NAS 8 "But all these things are merely the beginning of birth pangs. NIV 8 All these are the beginning of birth pains. NAS 9 "Then they will deliver you to tribulation, and will kill you, and you will be hated by all nations because of My name. NIV 9 "Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me. NAS 10 "At that time many will fall away and will betray one another and hate one another. NIV 10 At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, NAS 11 "Many false prophets will arise and will mislead many. NIV 11 and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. NAS 12 "Because lawlessness is increased, most people's love will grow cold. NIV 12 Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, NAS 13 "But the one who endures to the end, he will be saved. NIV 13 but he who stands firm to the end will be saved. NAS 14 "This gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all the nations, and then the end will come. NIV 14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come. NAS 15 "Therefore when you see the ABOMINATION OF DESOLATION which was spoken of through Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place (let the reader understand ), NIV 15 "So when you see standing in the holy place 'the abomination that causes desolation,' spoken of through the prophet Daniel--let the reader understand-- NAS 16 then those who are in Judea must flee to the mountains. NIV 19 How dreadful it will be in those days for pregnant women and nursing mothers! NAS 20 "But pray that your flight will not be in the winter, or on a Sabbath. NIV 20 Pray that your flight will not take place in winter or on the Sabbath. NAS 21 "For then there will be a great tribulation, such as has not occurred since the beginning of the world until now, nor ever will. NIV 21 For then there will be great distress, unequaled from the beginning of the world until now--and never to be equaled again. NAS 22 "Unless those days had been cut short, no life would have been saved; but for the sake of the elect those days will be cut short. NIV 22 If those days had not been cut short, no one would survive, but for the sake of the elect those days will be shortened. NAS 23 "Then if anyone says to you, 'Behold, here is the Christ,' or 'There He is,' do not believe him. NIV 23 At that time if anyone says to you, 'Look, here is the Christ!' or, 'There he is!' do not believe it. NAS 24 "For false Christs and false prophets will arise and will show great signs and wonders, so as to mislead, if possible, even the elect. NIV 24 For false Christs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and miracles to deceive even the elect--if that were possible. NAS 25 "Behold, I have told you in advance. NIV 25 See, I have told you ahead of time. NAS 26 "So if they say to you, 'Behold, He is in the wilderness,' do not go out, or, 'Behold, He is in the inner rooms,' do not believe them. NIV 26 "So if anyone tells you, 'There he is, out in the desert,' do not go out; or, 'Here he is, in the inner rooms,' do not believe it. NAS 27 "For just as the lightning comes from the east and flashes even to the west, so will the coming of the Son of Man be. NIV 27 For as lightning that comes from the east is visible even in the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. NAS 28 "Wherever the corpse is, there the vultures will gather. NIV 28 Wherever there is a carcass, there the vultures will gather. NAS 29 "But immediately after the tribulation of those days THE SUN WILL BE DARKENED, AND THE MOON WILL NOT GIVE ITS LIGHT, AND THE STARS WILL FALL from the sky, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. NIV 29 "Immediately after the distress of those days " 'the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from the sky, and the heavenly bodies will be shaken.' NAS 30 "And then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the SON OF MAN COMING ON THE CLOUDS OF THE SKY with power and great glory. NIV 30 "At that time the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and all the nations of the earth will mourn. They will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky, with power and great glory. NAS 31 "And He will send forth His angels with A GREAT TRUMPET and THEY WILL GATHER TOGETHER His elect from the four winds, from one end of the sky to the other. NIV 31 And he will send his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other. NAS 32 "Now learn the parable from the fig tree: when its branch has already become tender and puts forth its leaves, you know that summer is near; NIV 32 "Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: As soon as its twigs get tender and its leaves come out, you know that summer is near. NAS 33 so, you too, when you see all these things, recognize that He is near, right at the door. NIV 33 Even so, when you see all these things, you know that it is near, right at the door. NAS 34 "Truly I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things take place. NIV 34 I tell you the truth, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened. NAS 35 "Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will not pass away. NIV 35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away. NAS 36 "But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone. NIV 36 "No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. NAS 37 "For the coming of the Son of Man will be just like the days of Noah. NIV 37 As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. NAS 38 "For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, NIV 38 For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; NAS 39 and they did not understand until the flood came and took them all away; so will the coming of the Son of Man be. NIV 39 and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. NAS 40 "Then there will be two men in the field; one will be taken and one will be left. NIV 40 Two men will be in the field; one will be taken and the other left. NAS 41 "Two women will be grinding at the mill; one will be taken and one will be left. NIV 41 Two women will be grinding with a hand mill; one will be taken and the other left. NAS 42 "Therefore be on the alert, for you do not know which day your Lord is coming. NIV 42 "Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come. NAS 43 "But be sure of this, that if the head of the house had known at what time of the night the thief was coming, he would have been on the alert and would not have allowed his house to be broken into. NIV 43 But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into. NAS 44 "For this reason you also must be ready; for the Son of Man is coming at an hour when you do not think He will. NIV 44 So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him. NAS 45 "Who then is the faithful and sensible slave whom his master put in charge of his household to give them their food at the proper time? NIV 45 "Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom the master has put in charge of the servants in his household to give them their food at the proper time? NAS 46 "Blessed is that slave whom his master finds so doing when he comes. NIV 46 It will be good for that servant whose master finds him doing so when he returns. NAS 47 "Truly I say to you that he will put him in charge of all his possessions. NIV 47 I tell you the truth, he will put him in charge of all his possessions. NAS 48 "But if that evil slave says in his heart, 'My master is not coming for a long time,' NIV 48 But suppose that servant is wicked and says to himself, 'My master is staying away a long time,' NAS 49 and begins to beat his fellow slaves and eat and drink with drunkards; NIV 49 and he then begins to beat his fellow servants and to eat and drink with drunkards. NAS 50 the master of that slave will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour which he does not know, NIV 50 The master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he is not aware of. NAS 51 and will cut him in pieces and assign him a place with the hypocrites; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
