"I tell you the truth, not one stone here will be left on another; every one will be thrown down." NRS 3 When he was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately, saying, "Tell us, when will this be, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?" NIV 3 As Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately. "Tell us," they said, "when will this happen, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?" NRS 4 Jesus answered them, "Beware that no one leads you astray. NIV 4 Jesus answered: "Watch out that no one deceives you. NRS 5 For many will come in my name, saying, "I am the Messiah!' and they will lead many astray. NIV 5 For many will come in my name, claiming, 'I am the Christ, ' and will deceive many. NRS 6 And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars; see that you are not alarmed; for this must take place, but the end is not yet. NIV 6 You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. NRS 7 For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be famines and earthquakes in various places: NIV 7 Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. NRS 8 all this is but the beginning of the birth pangs. NIV 8 All these are the beginning of birth pains. NRS 9 "Then they will hand you over to be tortured and will put you to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of my name. NIV 9 "Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me. NRS 10 Then many will fall away, and they will betray one another and hate one another. NIV 10 At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, NRS 11 And many false prophets will arise and lead many astray. NIV 11 and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. NRS 12 And because of the increase of lawlessness, the love of many will grow cold. NIV 12 Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, NRS 13 But the one who endures to the end will be saved. NIV 13 but he who stands firm to the end will be saved. NRS 14 And this good news of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the world, as a testimony to all the nations; and then the end will come. NIV 14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come. NRS 15 "So when you see the desolating sacrilege standing in the holy place, as was spoken of by the prophet Daniel (let the reader understand), NIV 15 "So when you see standing in the holy place 'the abomination that causes desolation,' spoken of through the prophet Daniel--let the reader understand-- NRS 16 then those in Judea must flee to the mountains; NIV 16 then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. NRS 17 the one on the housetop must not go down to take what is in the house; NIV 17 Let no one on the roof of his house go down to take anything out of the house. NRS 18 the one in the field must not turn back to get a coat. NIV 18 Let no one in the field go back to get his cloak. NRS 19 Woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing infants in those days! NIV 19 How dreadful it will be in those days for pregnant women and nursing mothers! NRS 20 Pray that your flight may not be in winter or on a sabbath. NIV 20 Pray that your flight will not take place in winter or on the Sabbath. NRS 21 For at that time there will be great suffering, such as has not been from the beginning of the world until now, no, and never will be. NIV 21 For then there will be great distress, unequaled from the beginning of the world until now--and never to be equaled again. NRS 22 And if those days had not been cut short, no one would be saved; but for the sake of the elect those days will be cut short. NIV 22 If those days had not been cut short, no one would survive, but for the sake of the elect those days will be shortened. NRS 23 Then if anyone says to you, "Look! Here is the Messiah!' or "There he is!'—do not believe it. NIV 23 At that time if anyone says to you, 'Look, here is the Christ!' or, 'There he is!' do not believe it. NRS 24 For false messiahs and false prophets will appear and produce great signs and omens, to lead astray, if possible, even the elect. NIV 24 For false Christs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and miracles to deceive even the elect--if that were possible. NRS 25 Take note, I have told you beforehand. NIV 25 See, I have told you ahead of time. NRS 26 So, if they say to you, "Look! He is in the wilderness,' do not go out. If they say, "Look! He is in the inner rooms,' do not believe it. NIV 26 "So if anyone tells you, 'There he is, out in the desert,' do not go out; or, 'Here he is, in the inner rooms,' do not believe it. NRS 27 For as the lightning comes from the east and flashes as far as the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. NIV 27 For as lightning that comes from the east is visible even in the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. NRS 28 Wherever the corpse is, there the vultures will gather. NIV 28 Wherever there is a carcass, there the vultures will gather. NRS 29 "Immediately after the suffering of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of heaven will be shaken. NIV 29 "Immediately after the distress of those days " 'the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from the sky, and the heavenly bodies will be shaken.' NRS 30 Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see "the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven' with power and great glory. NIV 30 "At that time the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and all the nations of the earth will mourn. They will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky, with power and great glory. NRS 31 And he will send out his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other. NIV 31 And he will send his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other. NRS 32 "From the fig tree learn its lesson: as soon as its branch becomes tender and puts forth its leaves, you know that summer is near. NIV 32 "Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: As soon as its twigs get tender and its leaves come out, you know that summer is near. NRS 33 So also, when you see all these things, you know that he is near, at the very gates. NIV 33 Even so, when you see all these things, you know that it is near, right at the door. NRS 34 Truly I tell you, this generation will not pass away until all these things have taken place. NIV 34 I tell you the truth, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened. NRS 35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away. NIV 35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away. NRS 36 "But about that day and hour no one knows, neither the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. NIV 36 "No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. NRS 37 For as the days of Noah were, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. NIV 37 As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. NRS 38 For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day Noah entered the ark, NIV 38 For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; NRS 39 and they knew nothing until the flood came and swept them all away, so too will be the coming of the Son of Man. NIV 39 and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. NRS 40 Then two will be in the field; one will be taken and one will be left. NIV 40 Two men will be in the field; one will be taken and the other left. NRS 41 Two women will be grinding meal together; one will be taken and one will be left. NIV 41 Two women will be grinding with a hand mill; one will be taken and the other left. NRS 42 Keep awake therefore, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming. NIV 42 "Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come. NRS 43 But understand this: if the owner of the house had known in what part of the night the thief was coming, he would have stayed awake and would not have let his house be broken into. NIV 43 But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into. NRS 44 Therefore you also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an unexpected hour. NIV 44 So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him. NRS 45 "Who then is the faithful and wise slave, whom his master has put in charge of his household, to give the other slaves their allowance of food at the proper time? NIV 45 "Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom the master has put in charge of the servants in his household to give them their food at the proper time? NRS 46 Blessed is that slave whom his master will find at work when he arrives. NIV 46 It will be good for that servant whose master finds him doing so when he returns. NRS 47 Truly I tell you, he will put that one in charge of all his possessions. NIV 47 I tell you the truth, he will put him in charge of all his possessions. NRS 48 But if that wicked slave says to himself, "My master is delayed,' NIV 48 But suppose that servant is wicked and says to himself, 'My master is staying away a long time,' NRS 49 and he begins to beat his fellow slaves, and eats and drinks with drunkards, NIV 49 and he then begins to beat his fellow servants and to eat and drink with drunkards. NRS 50 the master of that slave will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour that he does not know. NIV 50 The master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he is not aware of. NRS 51 He will cut him in pieces and put him with the hypocrites, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. NIV 51 He will cut him to pieces and assign him a place with the hypocrites, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
