Matthew 25

CSB 1 "Then the kingdom of heaven will be like 10 virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the groom. NIV 1 "At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. CSB 2 Five of them were foolish and five were sensible. NIV 2 Five of them were foolish and five were wise. CSB 3 When the foolish took their lamps, they didn't take oil with them. NIV 3 The foolish ones took their lamps but did not take any oil with them. CSB 4 But the sensible ones took oil in their flasks with their lamps. NIV 4 The wise, however, took oil in jars along with their lamps. CSB 5 Since the groom was delayed, they all became drowsy and fell asleep. NIV 5 The bridegroom was a long time in coming, and they all became drowsy and fell asleep. CSB 6 "In the middle of the night there was a shout: 'Here's the groom! Come out to meet him.' NIV 6 "At midnight the cry rang out: 'Here's the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!' CSB 7 "Then all those virgins got up and trimmed their lamps. NIV 7 "Then all the virgins woke up and trimmed their lamps. CSB 8 But the foolish ones said to the sensible ones, 'Give us some of your oil, because our lamps are going out.' NIV 8 The foolish ones said to the wise, 'Give us some of your oil; our lamps are going out.' CSB 9 "The sensible ones answered, 'No, there won't be enough for us and for you. Go instead to those who sell, and buy oil for yourselves.' NIV 9 " 'No,' they replied, 'there may not be enough for both us and you. Instead, go to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves.' CSB 10 "When they had gone to buy some, the groom arrived. Then those who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet, and the door was shut. NIV 10 "But while they were on their way to buy the oil, the bridegroom arrived. The virgins who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet. And the door was shut. CSB 11 "Later the rest of the virgins also came and said, 'Master, master, open up for us!' NIV 11 "Later the others also came. 'Sir! Sir!' they said. 'Open the door for us!' CSB 12 "But he replied, 'I assure you: I do not know you!' NIV 12 "But he replied, 'I tell you the truth, I don't know you.' CSB 13 "Therefore be alert, because you don't know either the day or the hour. NIV 13 "Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour. CSB 14 "For it is just like a man going on a journey. He called his own slaves and turned over his possessions to them. NIV 14 "Again, it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted his property to them. CSB 15 To one he gave five talents; to another, two; and to another, one-to each according to his own ability. Then he went on a journey. Immediately NIV 15 To one he gave five talents of money, to another two talents, and to another one talent, each according to his ability. Then he went on his journey. CSB 16 the man who had received five talents went, put them to work, and earned five more. NIV 16 The man who had received the five talents went at once and put his money to work and gained five more. CSB 17 In the same way the man with two earned two more. NIV 17 So also, the one with the two talents gained two more. CSB 18 But the man who had received one talent went off, dug a hole in the ground, and hid his master's money. NIV 18 But the man who had received the one talent went off, dug a hole in the ground and hid his master's money. CSB 19 "After a long time the master of those slaves came and settled accounts with them. NIV 19 "After a long time the master of those servants returned and settled accounts with them. CSB 20 The man who had received five talents approached, presented five more talents, and said, 'Master, you gave me five talents. Look, I've earned five more talents.' NIV 20 The man who had received the five talents brought the other five. 'Master,' he said, 'you entrusted me with five talents. See, I have gained five more.' CSB 21 "His master said to him, 'Well done, good and faithful slave! You were faithful over a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Share your master's joy!' NIV 21 "His master replied, 'Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness!' CSB 22 "Then the man with two talents also approached. He said, 'Master, you gave me two talents. Look, I've earned two more talents.' NIV 22 "The man with the two talents also came. 'Master,' he said, 'you entrusted me with two talents; see, I have gained two more.' CSB 23 "His master said to him, 'Well done, good and faithful slave! You were faithful over a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Share your master's joy!' NIV 23 "His master replied, 'Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness!' CSB 24 "Then the man who had received one talent also approached and said, 'Master, I know you. You're a difficult man, reaping where you haven't sown and gathering where you haven't scattered seed. NIV 24 "Then the man who had received the one talent came. 'Master,' he said, 'I knew that you are a hard man, harvesting where you have not sown and gathering where you have not scattered seed. CSB 25 So I was afraid and went off and hid your talent in the ground. Look, you have what is yours.' NIV 25 So I was afraid and went out and hid your talent in the ground. See, here is what belongs to you.' CSB 26 "But his master replied to him, 'You evil, lazy slave! If you knew that I reap where I haven't sown and gather where I haven't scattered, NIV 26 "His master replied, 'You wicked, lazy servant! So you knew that I harvest where I have not sown and gather where I have not scattered seed? CSB 27 then you should have deposited my money with the bankers. And when I returned I would have received my money back with interest. NIV 27 Well then, you should have put my money on deposit with the bankers, so that when I returned I would have received it back with interest. CSB 28 " 'So take the talent from him and give it to the one who has 10 talents. NIV 28 " 'Take the talent from him and give it to the one who has the ten talents. CSB 29 For to everyone who has, more will be given, and he will have more than enough. But from the one who does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him. NIV 29 For everyone who has will be given more, and he will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken from him. CSB 30 And throw this good-for-nothing slave into the outer darkness. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.' NIV 30 And throw that worthless servant outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.' CSB 31 "When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the angels with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory. NIV 31 "When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his throne in heavenly glory. CSB 32 All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another, just as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. NIV 32 All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. CSB 33 He will put the sheep on His right and the goats on the left. NIV 33 He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left. CSB 34 Then the King will say to those on His right, 'Come, you who are blessed by My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. NIV 34 "Then the King will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. CSB 35 For I was hungry and you gave Me something to eat; I was thirsty and you gave Me something to drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; NIV 35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, CSB 36 I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you took care of Me; I was in prison and you visited Me.' NIV 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.' CSB 37 "Then the righteous will answer Him, 'Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You something to drink? NIV 37 "Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? CSB 38 When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or without clothes and clothe You? NIV 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? CSB 39 When did we see You sick, or in prison, and visit You?' NIV 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?' CSB 40 "And the King will answer them, 'I assure you: Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of Mine, you did for Me.' NIV 40 "The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.' CSB 41 Then He will also say to those on the left, 'Depart from Me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the Devil and his angels! NIV 41 "Then he will say to those on his left, 'Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. CSB 42 For I was hungry and you gave Me nothing to eat; I was thirsty and you gave Me nothing to drink; NIV 42 For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, CSB 43 I was a stranger and you didn't take Me in; I was naked and you didn't clothe Me, sick and in prison and you didn't take care of Me.' NIV 43 I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.' CSB 44 "Then they too will answer, 'Lord, when did we see You hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or without clothes, or sick, or in prison, and not help You?' NIV 44 "They also will answer, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?' CSB 45 "Then He will answer them, 'I assure you: Whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for Me either.' NIV 45 "He will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.'
