Matthew 25

GNT 1 "At that time the Kingdom of heaven will be like this. Once there were ten young women who took their oil lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. NIV 1 "At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. GNT 2 Five of them were foolish, and the other five were wise. NIV 2 Five of them were foolish and five were wise. GNT 3 The foolish ones took their lamps but did not take any extra oil with them, NIV 3 The foolish ones took their lamps but did not take any oil with them. GNT 4 while the wise ones took containers full of oil for their lamps. NIV 4 The wise, however, took oil in jars along with their lamps. GNT 5 The bridegroom was late in coming, so they began to nod and fall asleep. NIV 5 The bridegroom was a long time in coming, and they all became drowsy and fell asleep. GNT 6 "It was already midnight when the cry rang out, "Here is the bridegroom! Come and meet him!' NIV 6 "At midnight the cry rang out: 'Here's the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!' GNT 7 The ten young women woke up and trimmed their lamps. NIV 7 "Then all the virgins woke up and trimmed their lamps. GNT 8 Then the foolish ones said to the wise ones, "Let us have some of your oil, because our lamps are going out.' NIV 8 The foolish ones said to the wise, 'Give us some of your oil; our lamps are going out.' GNT 9 "No, indeed,' the wise ones answered, "there is not enough for you and for us. Go to the store and buy some for yourselves.' NIV 9 " 'No,' they replied, 'there may not be enough for both us and you. Instead, go to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves.' GNT 10 So the foolish ones went off to buy some oil; and while they were gone, the bridegroom arrived. The five who were ready went in with him to the wedding feast, and the door was closed. NIV 10 "But while they were on their way to buy the oil, the bridegroom arrived. The virgins who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet. And the door was shut. GNT 11 "Later the others arrived. "Sir, sir! Let us in!' they cried out. NIV 11 "Later the others also came. 'Sir! Sir!' they said. 'Open the door for us!' GNT 12 "Certainly not! I don't know you,' the bridegroom answered." NIV 12 "But he replied, 'I tell you the truth, I don't know you.' GNT 13 And Jesus concluded, "Watch out, then, because you do not know the day or the hour. NIV 13 "Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour. GNT 14 "At that time the Kingdom of heaven will be like this. Once there was a man who was about to leave home on a trip; he called his servants and put them in charge of his property. NIV 14 "Again, it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted his property to them. GNT 15 He gave to each one according to his ability: to one he gave five thousand gold coins, to another he gave two thousand, and to another he gave one thousand. Then he left on his trip. NIV 15 To one he gave five talents of money, to another two talents, and to another one talent, each according to his ability. Then he went on his journey. GNT 16 The servant who had received five thousand coins went at once and invested his money and earned another five thousand. NIV 16 The man who had received the five talents went at once and put his money to work and gained five more. GNT 17 In the same way the servant who had received two thousand coins earned another two thousand. NIV 17 So also, the one with the two talents gained two more. GNT 18 But the servant who had received one thousand coins went off, dug a hole in the ground, and hid his master's money. NIV 18 But the man who had received the one talent went off, dug a hole in the ground and hid his master's money. GNT 19 "After a long time the master of those servants came back and settled accounts with them. NIV 19 "After a long time the master of those servants returned and settled accounts with them. GNT 20 The servant who had received five thousand coins came in and handed over the other five thousand. "You gave me five thousand coins, sir,' he said. "Look! Here are another five thousand that I have earned.' NIV 20 The man who had received the five talents brought the other five. 'Master,' he said, 'you entrusted me with five talents. See, I have gained five more.' GNT 21 "Well done, you good and faithful servant!' said his master. "You have been faithful in managing small amounts, so I will put you in charge of large amounts. Come on in and share my happiness!' NIV 21 "His master replied, 'Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness!' GNT 22 Then the servant who had been given two thousand coins came in and said, "You gave me two thousand coins, sir. Look! Here are another two thousand that I have earned.' NIV 22 "The man with the two talents also came. 'Master,' he said, 'you entrusted me with two talents; see, I have gained two more.' GNT 23 "Well done, you good and faithful servant!' said his master. "You have been faithful in managing small amounts, so I will put you in charge of large amounts. Come on in and share my happiness!' NIV 23 "His master replied, 'Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness!' GNT 24 Then the servant who had received one thousand coins came in and said, "Sir, I know you are a hard man; you reap harvests where you did not plant, and you gather crops where you did not scatter seed. NIV 24 "Then the man who had received the one talent came. 'Master,' he said, 'I knew that you are a hard man, harvesting where you have not sown and gathering where you have not scattered seed. GNT 25 I was afraid, so I went off and hid your money in the ground. Look! Here is what belongs to you.' NIV 25 So I was afraid and went out and hid your talent in the ground. See, here is what belongs to you.' GNT 26 "You bad and lazy servant!' his master said. "You knew, did you, that I reap harvests where I did not plant, and gather crops where I did not scatter seed? NIV 26 "His master replied, 'You wicked, lazy servant! So you knew that I harvest where I have not sown and gather where I have not scattered seed? GNT 27 Well, then, you should have deposited my money in the bank, and I would have received it all back with interest when I returned. NIV 27 Well then, you should have put my money on deposit with the bankers, so that when I returned I would have received it back with interest. GNT 28 Now, take the money away from him and give it to the one who has ten thousand coins. NIV 28 " 'Take the talent from him and give it to the one who has the ten talents. GNT 29 For to every person who has something, even more will be given, and he will have more than enough; but the person who has nothing, even the little that he has will be taken away from him. NIV 29 For everyone who has will be given more, and he will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken from him. GNT 30 As for this useless servant - throw him outside in the darkness; there he will cry and gnash his teeth.' NIV 30 And throw that worthless servant outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.' GNT 31 "When the Son of Man comes as King and all the angels with him, he will sit on his royal throne, NIV 31 "When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his throne in heavenly glory. GNT 32 and the people of all the nations will be gathered before him. Then he will divide them into two groups, just as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. NIV 32 All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. GNT 33 He will put the righteous people at his right and the others at his left. NIV 33 He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left. GNT 34 Then the King will say to the people on his right, "Come, you that are blessed by my Father! Come and possess the kingdom which has been prepared for you ever since the creation of the world. NIV 34 "Then the King will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. GNT 35 I was hungry and you fed me, thirsty and you gave me a drink; I was a stranger and you received me in your homes, NIV 35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, GNT 36 naked and you clothed me; I was sick and you took care of me, in prison and you visited me.' NIV 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.' GNT 37 The righteous will then answer him, "When, Lord, did we ever see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you a drink? NIV 37 "Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? GNT 38 When did we ever see you a stranger and welcome you in our homes, or naked and clothe you? NIV 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? GNT 39 When did we ever see you sick or in prison, and visit you?' NIV 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?' GNT 40 The King will reply, "I tell you, whenever you did this for one of the least important of these followers of mine, you did it for me!' NIV 40 "The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.' GNT 41 "Then he will say to those on his left, "Away from me, you that are under God's curse! Away to the eternal fire which has been prepared for the Devil and his angels! NIV 41 "Then he will say to those on his left, 'Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. GNT 42 I was hungry but you would not feed me, thirsty but you would not give me a drink; NIV 42 For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, GNT 43 I was a stranger but you would not welcome me in your homes, naked but you would not clothe me; I was sick and in prison but you would not take care of me.' NIV 43 I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.' GNT 44 Then they will answer him, "When, Lord, did we ever see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and we would not help you?' NIV 44 "They also will answer, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?' GNT 45 The King will reply, "I tell you, whenever you refused to help one of these least important ones, you refused to help me.' NIV 45 "He will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.' GNT 46 These, then, will be sent off to eternal punishment, but the righteous will go to eternal life." NIV 46 "Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life."
