Matthew 25

YLT 1 `Then shall the reign of the heavens be likened to ten virgins, who, having taken their lamps, went forth to meet the bridegroom; NIV 1 "At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. YLT 2 and five of them were prudent, and five foolish; NIV 2 Five of them were foolish and five were wise. YLT 3 they who were foolish having taken their lamps, did not take with themselves oil; NIV 3 The foolish ones took their lamps but did not take any oil with them. YLT 4 and the prudent took oil in their vessels, with their lamps. NIV 4 The wise, however, took oil in jars along with their lamps. YLT 5 `And the bridegroom tarrying, they all nodded and were sleeping, NIV 5 The bridegroom was a long time in coming, and they all became drowsy and fell asleep. YLT 6 and in the middle of the night a cry was made, Lo, the bridegroom doth come; go ye forth to meet him. NIV 6 "At midnight the cry rang out: 'Here's the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!' YLT 7 `Then rose all those virgins, and trimmed their lamps, NIV 7 "Then all the virgins woke up and trimmed their lamps. YLT 8 and the foolish said to the prudent, Give us of your oil, because our lamps are going out; NIV 8 The foolish ones said to the wise, 'Give us some of your oil; our lamps are going out.' YLT 9 and the prudent answered, saying -- Lest there may not be sufficient for us and you, go ye rather unto those selling, and buy for yourselves. NIV 9 " 'No,' they replied, 'there may not be enough for both us and you. Instead, go to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves.' YLT 10 `And while they are going away to buy, the bridegroom came, and those ready went in with him to the marriage-feasts, and the door was shut; NIV 10 "But while they were on their way to buy the oil, the bridegroom arrived. The virgins who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet. And the door was shut. YLT 11 and afterwards come also do the rest of the virgins, saying, Sir, sir, open to us; NIV 11 "Later the others also came. 'Sir! Sir!' they said. 'Open the door for us!' YLT 12 and he answering said, Verily I say to you, I have not known you. NIV 12 "But he replied, 'I tell you the truth, I don't know you.' YLT 13 `Watch therefore, for ye have not known the day nor the hour in which the Son of Man doth come. NIV 13 "Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour. YLT 14 `For -- as a man going abroad did call his own servants, and did deliver to them his substance, NIV 14 "Again, it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted his property to them. YLT 15 and to one he gave five talents, and to another two, and to another one, to each according to his several ability, went abroad immediately. NIV 15 To one he gave five talents of money, to another two talents, and to another one talent, each according to his ability. Then he went on his journey. YLT 16 `And he who did receive the five talents, having gone, wrought with them, and made other five talents; NIV 16 The man who had received the five talents went at once and put his money to work and gained five more. YLT 17 in like manner also he who [received] the two, he gained, also he, other two; NIV 17 So also, the one with the two talents gained two more. YLT 18 and he who did receive the one, having gone away, digged in the earth, and hid his lord's money. NIV 18 But the man who had received the one talent went off, dug a hole in the ground and hid his master's money. YLT 19 `And after a long time cometh the lord of those servants, and taketh reckoning with them; NIV 19 "After a long time the master of those servants returned and settled accounts with them. YLT 20 and he who did receive the five talents having come, brought other five talents, saying, `Sir, five talents thou didst deliver to me; lo, other five talents did I gain besides them. NIV 20 The man who had received the five talents brought the other five. 'Master,' he said, 'you entrusted me with five talents. See, I have gained five more.' YLT 21 `And his lord said to him, Well done, servant, good and faithful, over a few things thou wast faithful, over many things I will set thee; enter into the joy of thy lord. NIV 21 "His master replied, 'Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness!' YLT 22 `And he who also did receive the two talents having come, said, Sir, two talents thou didst deliver to me; lo, other two talents I did gain besides them. NIV 22 "The man with the two talents also came. 'Master,' he said, 'you entrusted me with two talents; see, I have gained two more.' YLT 23 `His lord said to him, Well done, servant, good and faithful, over a few things thou wast faithful, over many things I will set thee; enter into the joy of thy lord. NIV 23 "His master replied, 'Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness!' YLT 24 `And he also who hath received the one talent having come, said, Sir, I knew thee, that thou art a hard man, reaping where thou didst not sow, and gathering from whence thou didst not scatter; NIV 24 "Then the man who had received the one talent came. 'Master,' he said, 'I knew that you are a hard man, harvesting where you have not sown and gathering where you have not scattered seed. YLT 25 and having been afraid, having gone away, I hid thy talent in the earth; lo, thou hast thine own! NIV 25 So I was afraid and went out and hid your talent in the ground. See, here is what belongs to you.' YLT 26 `And his lord answering said to him, Evil servant, and slothful, thou hadst known that I reap where I did not sow, and I gather whence I did not scatter! NIV 26 "His master replied, 'You wicked, lazy servant! So you knew that I harvest where I have not sown and gather where I have not scattered seed? YLT 27 it behoved thee then to put my money to the money-lenders, and having come I had received mine own with increase. NIV 27 Well then, you should have put my money on deposit with the bankers, so that when I returned I would have received it back with interest. YLT 28 `Take therefore from him the talent, and give to him having the ten talents, NIV 28 " 'Take the talent from him and give it to the one who has the ten talents. YLT 29 for to every one having shall be given, and he shall have overabundance, and from him who is not having, even that which he hath shall be taken from him; NIV 29 For everyone who has will be given more, and he will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken from him. YLT 30 and the unprofitable servant cast ye forth to the outer darkness; there shall be the weeping and the gnashing of the teeth. NIV 30 And throw that worthless servant outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.' YLT 31 `And whenever the Son of Man may come in his glory, and all the holy messengers with him, then he shall sit upon a throne of his glory; NIV 31 "When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his throne in heavenly glory. YLT 32 and gathered together before him shall be all the nations, and he shall separate them from one another, as the shepherd doth separate the sheep from the goats, NIV 32 All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. YLT 33 and he shall set the sheep indeed on his right hand, and the goats on the left. NIV 33 He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left. YLT 34 `Then shall the king say to those on his right hand, Come ye, the blessed of my Father, inherit the reign that hath been prepared for you from the foundation of the world; NIV 34 "Then the King will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. YLT 35 for I did hunger, and ye gave me to eat; I did thirst, and ye gave me to drink; I was a stranger, and ye received me; NIV 35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, YLT 36 naked, and ye put around me; I was infirm, and ye looked after me; in prison I was, and ye came unto me. NIV 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.' YLT 37 `Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when did we see thee hungering, and we nourished? or thirsting, and we gave to drink? NIV 37 "Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? YLT 38 and when did we see thee a stranger, and we received? or naked, and we put around? NIV 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? YLT 39 and when did we see thee infirm, or in prison, and we came unto thee? NIV 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?' YLT 40 `And the king answering, shall say to them, Verily I say to you, Inasmuch as ye did [it] to one of these my brethren -- the least -- to me ye did [it]. NIV 40 "The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.' YLT 41 Then shall he say also to those on the left hand, Go ye from me, the cursed, to the fire, the age-during, that hath been prepared for the Devil and his messengers; NIV 41 "Then he will say to those on his left, 'Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. YLT 42 for I did hunger, and ye gave me not to eat; I did thirst, and ye gave me not to drink; NIV 42 For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, YLT 43 a stranger I was, and ye did not receive me; naked, and ye put not around me; infirm, and in prison, and ye did not look after me. NIV 43 I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.' YLT 44 `Then shall they answer, they also, saying, Lord, when did we see thee hungering, or thirsting, or a stranger, or naked, or infirm, or in prison, and we did not minister to thee? NIV 44 "They also will answer, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?' YLT 45 `Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say to you, Inasmuch as ye did [it] not to one of these, the least, ye did [it] not to me. NIV 45 "He will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.' YLT 46 And these shall go away to punishment age-during, but the righteous to life age-during.' NIV 46 "Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life."
