Matthew 25:14-30

NLT 14 “Again, the Kingdom of Heaven can be illustrated by the story of a man going on a long trip. He called together his servants and entrusted his money to them while he was gone. NIV 14 "Again, it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted his property to them. NLT 15 He gave five bags of silver25:15 Greek talents; also throughout the story. A talent is equal to 75 pounds or 34 kilograms. to one, two bags of silver to another, and one bag of silver to the last—dividing it in proportion to their abilities. He then left on his trip. NIV 15 To one he gave five talents of money, to another two talents, and to another one talent, each according to his ability. Then he went on his journey. NLT 16 “The servant who received the five bags of silver began to invest the money and earned five more. NIV 16 The man who had received the five talents went at once and put his money to work and gained five more. NLT 17 The servant with two bags of silver also went to work and earned two more. NIV 17 So also, the one with the two talents gained two more. NLT 18 But the servant who received the one bag of silver dug a hole in the ground and hid the master’s money. NIV 18 But the man who had received the one talent went off, dug a hole in the ground and hid his master's money. NLT 19 “After a long time their master returned from his trip and called them to give an account of how they had used his money. NIV 19 "After a long time the master of those servants returned and settled accounts with them. NLT 20 The servant to whom he had entrusted the five bags of silver came forward with five more and said, ‘Master, you gave me five bags of silver to invest, and I have earned five more.’ NIV 20 The man who had received the five talents brought the other five. 'Master,' he said, 'you entrusted me with five talents. See, I have gained five more.' NLT 21 “The master was full of praise. ‘Well done, my good and faithful servant. You have been faithful in handling this small amount, so now I will give you many more responsibilities. Let’s celebrate together!25:21 Greek Enter into the joy of your master [or your Lord]; also in 25:23.’ NIV 21 "His master replied, 'Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness!' NLT 22 “The servant who had received the two bags of silver came forward and said, ‘Master, you gave me two bags of silver to invest, and I have earned two more.’ NIV 22 "The man with the two talents also came. 'Master,' he said, 'you entrusted me with two talents; see, I have gained two more.' NLT 23 “The master said, ‘Well done, my good and faithful servant. You have been faithful in handling this small amount, so now I will give you many more responsibilities. Let’s celebrate together!’ NIV 23 "His master replied, 'Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness!' NLT 24 “Then the servant with the one bag of silver came and said, ‘Master, I knew you were a harsh man, harvesting crops you didn’t plant and gathering crops you didn’t cultivate. NIV 24 "Then the man who had received the one talent came. 'Master,' he said, 'I knew that you are a hard man, harvesting where you have not sown and gathering where you have not scattered seed. NLT 25 I was afraid I would lose your money, so I hid it in the earth. Look, here is your money back.’ NIV 25 So I was afraid and went out and hid your talent in the ground. See, here is what belongs to you.' NLT 26 “But the master replied, ‘You wicked and lazy servant! If you knew I harvested crops I didn’t plant and gathered crops I didn’t cultivate, NIV 26 "His master replied, 'You wicked, lazy servant! So you knew that I harvest where I have not sown and gather where I have not scattered seed? NLT 27 why didn’t you deposit my money in the bank? At least I could have gotten some interest on it.’ NIV 27 Well then, you should have put my money on deposit with the bankers, so that when I returned I would have received it back with interest. NLT 28 “Then he ordered, ‘Take the money from this servant, and give it to the one with the ten bags of silver. NIV 28 " 'Take the talent from him and give it to the one who has the ten talents. NLT 29 To those who use well what they are given, even more will be given, and they will have an abundance. But from those who do nothing, even what little they have will be taken away. NIV 29 For everyone who has will be given more, and he will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken from him. NLT 30 Now throw this useless servant into outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’ NIV 30 And throw that worthless servant outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.'
