KJV 10 When Jesus understood it, he said unto them, Why trouble ye the woman? for she hath wrought a good work upon me. NIV 10 Aware of this, Jesus said to them, "Why are you bothering this woman? She has done a beautiful thing to me. KJV 11 For ye have the poor always with you; but me ye have not always. NIV 11 The poor you will always have with you, but you will not always have me. KJV 12 For in that she hath poured this ointment on my body, she did it for my burial . NIV 12 When she poured this perfume on my body, she did it to prepare me for burial. KJV 13 Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached in the whole world, there shall also this, that this woman hath done , be told for a memorial of her. NIV 13 I tell you the truth, wherever this gospel is preached throughout the world, what she has done will also be told, in memory of her." KJV 35 Peter said unto him, Though I should die with thee, yet will I not deny thee. Likewise also said all the disciples. KJV 39 And he went a little further , and fell on his face, and prayed , saying , O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will , but as thou wilt. NIV 39 Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, "My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will." KJV 40 And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep , and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour? NIV 40 Then he returned to his disciples and found them sleeping. "Could you men not keep watch with me for one hour?" he asked Peter. KJV 41 Watch and pray , that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak. NIV 41 "Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the body is weak." KJV 42 He went away again the second time, and prayed , saying , O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me, except I drink it, thy will be done . NIV 42 He went away a second time and prayed, "My Father, if it is not possible for this cup to be taken away unless I drink it, may your will be done." KJV 43 And he came and found them asleep again: for their eyes were heavy . NIV 43 When he came back, he again found them sleeping, because their eyes were heavy. KJV 44 And he left them, and went away again, and prayed the third time, saying the same words. NIV 44 So he left them and went away once more and prayed the third time, saying the same thing. KJV 45 Then cometh he to his disciples, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest : behold , the hour is at hand , and the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners. NIV 45 Then he returned to the disciples and said to them, "Are you still sleeping and resting? Look, the hour is near, and the Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners. KJV 46 Rise , let us be going : behold , he is at hand that doth betray me. NIV 46 Rise, let us go! Here comes my betrayer!" KJV 47 And while he yet spake , lo , Judas, one of the twelve, came , and with him a great multitude with swords and staves, from the chief priests and elders of the people. NIV 47 While he was still speaking, Judas, one of the Twelve, arrived. With him was a large crowd armed with swords and clubs, sent from the chief priests and the elders of the people. KJV 48 Now he that betrayed him gave them a sign, saying , Whomsoever I shall kiss , that same is he: hold him fast . NIV 48 Now the betrayer had arranged a signal with them: "The one I kiss is the man; arrest him." KJV 49 And forthwith he came to Jesus, and said , Hail , master; and kissed him. NIV 49 Going at once to Jesus, Judas said, "Greetings, Rabbi!" and kissed him. KJV 50 And Jesus said unto him, Friend, wherefore art thou come ? Then came they , and laid hands on Jesus, and took him. NIV 50 Jesus replied, "Friend, do what you came for." Then the men stepped forward, seized Jesus and arrested him. KJV 51 And, behold , one of them which were with Jesus stretched out his hand, and drew his sword, and struck a servant of the high priest's, and smote off his ear. NIV 51 With that, one of Jesus' companions reached for his sword, drew it out and struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his ear. NIV 52 "Put your sword back in its place," Jesus said to him, "for all who draw the sword will die by the sword. KJV 53 Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels? NIV 53 Do you think I cannot call on my Father, and he will at once put at my disposal more than twelve legions of angels? KJV 54 But how then shall the scriptures be fulfilled , that thus it must be ? NIV 54 But how then would the Scriptures be fulfilled that say it must happen in this way?" KJV 55 In that same hour said Jesus to the multitudes, Are ye come out as against a thief with swords and staves for to take me? I sat daily with you teaching in the temple, and ye laid no hold on me. NIV 55 At that time Jesus said to the crowd, "Am I leading a rebellion, that you have come out with swords and clubs to capture me? Every day I sat in the temple courts teaching, and you did not arrest me. KJV 56 But all this was done , that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled . Then all the disciples forsook him, and fled . NIV 56 But this has all taken place that the writings of the prophets might be fulfilled." Then all the disciples deserted him and fled. KJV 57 And they that had laid hold on Jesus led him away to Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders were assembled . NIV 57 Those who had arrested Jesus took him to Caiaphas, the high priest, where the teachers of the law and the elders had assembled. KJV 58 But Peter followed him afar off unto the high priest's palace, and went in, and sat with the servants, to see the end. NIV 58 But Peter followed him at a distance, right up to the courtyard of the high priest. He entered and sat down with the guards to see the outcome. KJV 59 Now the chief priests, and elders, and all the council, sought false witness against Jesus, to put him to death ; NIV 59 The chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin were looking for false evidence against Jesus so that they could put him to death. KJV 60 But found none: yea, though many false witnesses came , yet found they none . At the last came two false witnesses, NIV 60 But they did not find any, though many false witnesses came forward. Finally two came forward KJV 61 And said , This fellow said , I am able to destroy the temple of God, and to build it in three days. NIV 61 and declared, "This fellow said, 'I am able to destroy the temple of God and rebuild it in three days.' " KJV 62 And the high priest arose , and said unto him, Answerest thou nothing? what is it which these witness against thee? NIV 62 Then the high priest stood up and said to Jesus, "Are you not going to answer? What is this testimony that these men are bringing against you?" KJV 63 But Jesus held his peace . And the high priest answered and said unto him, I adjure thee by the living God, that thou tell us whether thou be the Christ, the Son of God. NIV 63 But Jesus remained silent. The high priest said to him, "I charge you under oath by the living God: Tell us if you are the Christ, the Son of God." KJV 64 Jesus saith unto him, Thou hast said : nevertheless I say unto you, Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven. NIV 64 "Yes, it is as you say," Jesus replied. "But I say to all of you: In the future you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven." KJV 65 Then the high priest rent his clothes, saying , He hath spoken blasphemy ; what further need have we of witnesses? behold, now ye have heard his blasphemy. NIV 65 Then the high priest tore his clothes and said, "He has spoken blasphemy! Why do we need any more witnesses? Look, now you have heard the blasphemy. KJV 66 What think ye? They answered and said , He is guilty of death. NIV 66 What do you think?" "He is worthy of death," they answered. KJV 67 Then did they spit in his face, and buffeted him; and others smote him with the palms of their hands , NIV 67 Then they spit in his face and struck him with their fists. Others slapped him KJV 68 Saying , Prophesy unto us, thou Christ, Who is he that smote thee? NIV 68 and said, "Prophesy to us, Christ. Who hit you?" KJV 69 Now Peter sat without in the palace: and a damsel came unto him, saying , Thou also wast with Jesus of Galilee. NIV 69 Now Peter was sitting out in the courtyard, and a servant girl came to him. "You also were with Jesus of Galilee," she said. KJV 70 But he denied before them all, saying , I know not what thou sayest . NIV 70 But he denied it before them all. "I don't know what you're talking about," he said. KJV 71 And when he was gone out into the porch, another maid saw him, and said unto them that were there, This fellow was also with Jesus of Nazareth. NIV 71 Then he went out to the gateway, where another girl saw him and said to the people there, "This fellow was with Jesus of Nazareth." KJV 72 And again he denied with an oath , I do not know the man. NIV 72 He denied it again, with an oath: "I don't know the man!" KJV 73 And after a while came unto him they that stood by , and said to Peter, Surely thou also art one of them; for thy speech bewrayeth thee . NIV 73 After a little while, those standing there went up to Peter and said, "Surely you are one of them, for your accent gives you away." KJV 74 Then began he to curse and to swear , saying, I know not the man. And immediately the cock crew . NIV 74 Then he began to call down curses on himself and he swore to them, "I don't know the man!" Immediately a rooster crowed. KJV 75 And Peter remembered the word of Jesus, which said unto him, Before the cock crow , thou shalt deny me thrice. And he went out, and wept bitterly. NIV 75 Then Peter remembered the word Jesus had spoken: "Before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times." And he went outside and wept bitterly.
