They paid him thirty pieces of silver. NIV 15 and asked, "What are you willing to give me if I hand him over to you?" So they counted out for him thirty silver coins. CEBA 16 From that time on he was looking for an opportunity to turn him in. NIV 16 From then on Judas watched for an opportunity to hand him over. CEBA 17 On the first day of the Festival of Unleavened Bread, the disciples came to Jesus and said, "Where do you want us to prepare for you to eat the Passover meal?" NIV 17 On the first day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread, the disciples came to Jesus and asked, "Where do you want us to make preparations for you to eat the Passover?" CEBA 18 He replied, "Go into the city, to a certain man, and say, ‘The teacher says, My time is near. I'm going to celebrate the Passover with my disciples at your house. '" NIV 18 He replied, "Go into the city to a certain man and tell him, 'The Teacher says: My appointed time is near. I am going to celebrate the Passover with my disciples at your house.' " CEBA 19 The disciples did just as Jesus instructed them. They prepared the Passover. NIV 19 So the disciples did as Jesus had directed them and prepared the Passover. CEBA 20 That evening he took his place at the table with the twelve disciples. NIV 20 When evening came, Jesus was reclining at the table with the Twelve. CEBA 24 The Human One goes to his death just as it is written about him. But how terrible it is for that person who betrays the Human One! It would have been better for him if he had never been born." NIV 24 The Son of Man will go just as it is written about him. But woe to that man who betrays the Son of Man! It would be better for him if he had not been born." CEBA 25 Now Judas, who would betray him, replied, "It's not me, is it, Rabbi?" Jesus answered, "You said it." NIV 25 Then Judas, the one who would betray him, said, "Surely not I, Rabbi?" Jesus answered, "Yes, it is you." CEBA 26 While they were eating, Jesus took bread, blessed it, broke it, and gave it to the disciples and said, "Take and eat. This is my body." NIV 26 While they were eating, Jesus took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying, "Take and eat; this is my body." CEBA 27 He took a cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, "Drink from this, all of you. NIV 27 Then he took the cup, gave thanks and offered it to them, saying, "Drink from it, all of you. NIV 29 I tell you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it anew with you in my Father's kingdom." CEBA 30 Then, after singing songs of praise, they went to the Mount of Olives. NIV 30 When they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives. CEBA 31 Then Jesus said to his disciples, "Tonight you will all fall away because of me. This is because it is written, I will hit the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will go off in all directions. NIV 31 Then Jesus told them, "This very night you will all fall away on account of me, for it is written: " 'I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.' CEBA 32 But after I'm raised up, I'll go before you to Galilee." NIV 32 But after I have risen, I will go ahead of you into Galilee." CEBA 33 Peter replied, "If everyone else stumbles because of you, I'll never stumble." NIV 33 Peter replied, "Even if all fall away on account of you, I never will." CEBA 34 Jesus said to him, "I assure you that, before the rooster crows tonight, you will deny me three times." NIV 34 "I tell you the truth," Jesus answered, "this very night, before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times." CEBA 35 Peter said, "Even if I must die alongside you, I won't deny you." All the disciples said the same thing. NIV 35 But Peter declared, "Even if I have to die with you, I will never disown you." And all the other disciples said the same. CEBA 36 Then Jesus went with his disciples to a place called Gethsemane. He said to the disciples, "Stay here while I go and pray over there." Stay here and keep watch with me." CEBA 39 Then he went a short distance farther and fell on his face and prayed, "My Father, if it's possible, take this cup of suffering away from me. However—not what I want but what you want." NIV 39 Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, "My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will." CEBA 40 He came back to the disciples and found them sleeping. He said to Peter, "Couldn't you stay alert one hour with me? NIV 40 Then he returned to his disciples and found them sleeping. "Could you men not keep watch with me for one hour?" he asked Peter. CEBA 41 Stay alert and pray so that you won't give in to temptation. The spirit is eager, but the flesh is weak." NIV 41 "Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the body is weak." CEBA 42 A second time he went away and prayed, "My Father, if it's not possible that this cup be taken away unless I drink it, then let it be what you want." NIV 42 He went away a second time and prayed, "My Father, if it is not possible for this cup to be taken away unless I drink it, may your will be done." CEBA 43 Again he came and found them sleeping. Their eyes were heavy with sleep. NIV 43 When he came back, he again found them sleeping, because their eyes were heavy. CEBA 44 But he left them and again went and prayed the same words for the third time. NIV 44 So he left them and went away once more and prayed the third time, saying the same thing. CEBA 45 Then he came to his disciples and said to them, "Will you sleep and rest all night? Look, the time has come for the Human One to be betrayed into the hands of sinners. NIV 45 Then he returned to the disciples and said to them, "Are you still sleeping and resting? Look, the hour is near, and the Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners. CEBA 46 Get up. Let's go. Look, here comes my betrayer." NIV 46 Rise, let us go! Here comes my betrayer!" CEBA 47 While Jesus was still speaking, Judas, one of the Twelve, came. NIV 48 Now the betrayer had arranged a signal with them: "The one I kiss is the man; arrest him." CEBA 49 Just then he came to Jesus and said, "Hello, Rabbi." Then he kissed him. NIV 49 Going at once to Jesus, Judas said, "Greetings, Rabbi!" and kissed him. CEBA 50 But Jesus said to him, "Friend, do what you came to do." Then they came and grabbed Jesus and arrested him. NIV 50 Jesus replied, "Friend, do what you came for." Then the men stepped forward, seized Jesus and arrested him. CEBA 51 One of those with Jesus reached for his sword. Striking the high priest's slave, he cut off his ear. NIV 51 With that, one of Jesus' companions reached for his sword, drew it out and struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his ear. CEBA 52 Then Jesus said to him, "Put the sword back into its place. All those who use the sword will die by the sword. NIV 52 "Put your sword back in its place," Jesus said to him, "for all who draw the sword will die by the sword. CEBA 53 Or do you think that I'm not able to ask my Father and he will send to me more than twelve battle groups of angels right away? NIV 53 Do you think I cannot call on my Father, and he will at once put at my disposal more than twelve legions of angels? CEBA 54 But if I did that, how would the scriptures be fulfilled that say this must happen?" NIV 54 But how then would the Scriptures be fulfilled that say it must happen in this way?" CEBA 55 Then Jesus said to the crowds, "Have you come with swords and clubs to arrest me, like a thief? Day after day, I sat in the temple teaching, but you didn't arrest me. NIV 55 At that time Jesus said to the crowd, "Am I leading a rebellion, that you have come out with swords and clubs to capture me? Every day I sat in the temple courts teaching, and you did not arrest me. CEBA 56 But all this has happened so that what the prophets said in the scriptures might be fulfilled." Then all the disciples left Jesus and ran away. NIV 56 But this has all taken place that the writings of the prophets might be fulfilled." Then all the disciples deserted him and fled. CEBA 57 Those who arrested Jesus led him to Caiaphas the high priest. The legal experts and the elders had gathered there. NIV 57 Those who had arrested Jesus took him to Caiaphas, the high priest, where the teachers of the law and the elders had assembled. CEBA 58 Peter followed him from a distance until he came to the high priest's courtyard. He entered that area and sat outside with the officers to see how it would turn out. NIV 58 But Peter followed him at a distance, right up to the courtyard of the high priest. He entered and sat down with the guards to see the outcome. CEBA 59 The chief priests and the whole council were looking for false testimony against Jesus so that they could put him to death. NIV 59 The chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin were looking for false evidence against Jesus so that they could put him to death. CEBA 60 They didn't find anything they could use from the many false witnesses who were willing to come forward. But finally they found two NIV 60 But they did not find any, though many false witnesses came forward. Finally two came forward CEBA 61 who said, "This man said, ‘I can destroy God's temple and rebuild it in three days.'" NIV 61 and declared, "This fellow said, 'I am able to destroy the temple of God and rebuild it in three days.' " CEBA 62 Then the high priest stood and said to Jesus, "Aren't you going to respond to the testimony these people have brought against you?" NIV 62 Then the high priest stood up and said to Jesus, "Are you not going to answer? What is this testimony that these men are bringing against you?" CEBA 63 But Jesus was silent. The high priest said, "By the living God, I demand that you tell us whether you are the Christ, God's Son." NIV 63 But Jesus remained silent. The high priest said to him, "I charge you under oath by the living God: Tell us if you are the Christ, the Son of God." CEBA 64 "You said it," Jesus replied. "But I say to you that from now on you'll see the Human One sitting on the right side of the Almighty and coming on the heavenly clouds." NIV 64 "Yes, it is as you say," Jesus replied. "But I say to all of you: In the future you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven." CEBA 65 Then the high priest tore his clothes and said, "He's insulting God! Why do we need any more witnesses? Look, you've heard his insult against God. NIV 65 Then the high priest tore his clothes and said, "He has spoken blasphemy! Why do we need any more witnesses? Look, now you have heard the blasphemy. CEBA 66 What do you think?" And they answered, "He deserves to die!" NIV 66 What do you think?" "He is worthy of death," they answered. CEBA 67 Then they spit in his face and beat him. Who hit you?" CEBA 69 Meanwhile, Peter was sitting outside in the courtyard. A servant woman came and said to him, "You were also with Jesus the Galilean." NIV 69 Now Peter was sitting out in the courtyard, and a servant girl came to him. "You also were with Jesus of Galilee," she said. CEBA 70 But he denied it in front of all of them, saying, "I don't know what you are talking about." NIV 70 But he denied it before them all. "I don't know what you're talking about," he said. CEBA 71 When he went over to the gate, another woman saw him and said to those who were there, "This man was with Jesus, the man from Nazareth." NIV 71 Then he went out to the gateway, where another girl saw him and said to the people there, "This fellow was with Jesus of Nazareth." CEBA 72 With a solemn pledge, he denied it again, saying, "I don't know the man." NIV 72 He denied it again, with an oath: "I don't know the man!" CEBA 73 A short time later those standing there came and said to Peter, "You must be one of them. The way you talk gives you away." NIV 73 After a little while, those standing there went up to Peter and said, "Surely you are one of them, for your accent gives you away." CEBA 74 Then he cursed and swore, "I don't know the man!" At that very moment the rooster crowed. NIV 74 Then he began to call down curses on himself and he swore to them, "I don't know the man!" Immediately a rooster crowed. CEBA 75 Peter remembered Jesus' words, "Before the rooster crows you will deny me three times." And Peter went out and cried uncontrollably. NIV 75 Then Peter remembered the word Jesus had spoken: "Before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times." And he went outside and wept bitterly.
