Matthew 2:11-21

NRS 11 On entering the house, they saw the child with Mary his mother; and they knelt down and paid him homage. Then, opening their treasure chests, they offered him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. NIV 11 On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold and of incense and of myrrh. NRS 12 And having been warned in a dream not to return to Herod, they left for their own country by another road. NIV 12 And having been warned in a dream not to go back to Herod, they returned to their country by another route. NRS 13 Now after they had left, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, "Get up, take the child and his mother, and flee to Egypt, and remain there until I tell you; for Herod is about to search for the child, to destroy him." NIV 13 When they had gone, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream. "Get up," he said, "take the child and his mother and escape to Egypt. Stay there until I tell you, for Herod is going to search for the child to kill him." NRS 14 Then Joseph got up, took the child and his mother by night, and went to Egypt, NIV 14 So he got up, took the child and his mother during the night and left for Egypt, NRS 15 and remained there until the death of Herod. This was to fulfill what had been spoken by the Lord through the prophet, "Out of Egypt I have called my son." NIV 15 where he stayed until the death of Herod. And so was fulfilled what the Lord had said through the prophet: "Out of Egypt I called my son." NRS 16 When Herod saw that he had been tricked by the wise men, he was infuriated, and he sent and killed all the children in and around Bethlehem who were two years old or under, according to the time that he had learned from the wise men. NIV 16 When Herod realized that he had been outwitted by the Magi, he was furious, and he gave orders to kill all the boys in Bethlehem and its vicinity who were two years old and under, in accordance with the time he had learned from the Magi. NRS 17 Then was fulfilled what had been spoken through the prophet Jeremiah: NIV 17 Then what was said through the prophet Jeremiah was fulfilled: NRS 18 "A voice was heard in Ramah, wailing and loud lamentation, Rachel weeping for her children; she refused to be consoled, because they are no more." NIV 18 "A voice is heard in Ramah, weeping and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children and refusing to be comforted, because they are no more." NRS 19 When Herod died, an angel of the Lord suddenly appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt and said, NIV 19 After Herod died, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt NRS 20 "Get up, take the child and his mother, and go to the land of Israel, for those who were seeking the child's life are dead." NIV 20 and said, "Get up, take the child and his mother and go to the land of Israel, for those who were trying to take the child's life are dead." NRS 21 Then Joseph got up, took the child and his mother, and went to the land of Israel. NIV 21 So he got up, took the child and his mother and went to the land of Israel.
