Matthew 3:12-17

NAS 12 "His winnowing fork is in His hand, and He will thoroughly clear His threshing floor; and He will gather His wheat into the barn, but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire." NAS 14 But John tried to prevent Him, saying, "I have need to be baptized by You, and do You come to me?" NIV 14 But John tried to deter him, saying, "I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?" NAS 15 But Jesus answering said to him, "Permit it at this time; for in this way it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness." Then he permitted Him. NIV 15 Jesus replied, "Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness." Then John consented. NAS 16 After being baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove and lighting on Him, NIV 16 As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and lighting on him. NAS 17 and behold, a voice out of the heavens said, "This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well-pleased." NIV 17 And a voice from heaven said, "This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased."
