Matthew 3:13-17

CEB 13 At that time Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan River so that John would baptize him. NRS 13 Then Jesus came from Galilee to John at the Jordan, to be baptized by him. CEB 14 John tried to stop him and said, "I need to be baptized by you, yet you come to me?" NRS 14 John would have prevented him, saying, "I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?" CEB 15 Jesus answered, "Allow me to be baptized now. This is necessary to fulfill all righteousness." So John agreed to baptize Jesus. NRS 15 But Jesus answered him, "Let it be so now; for it is proper for us in this way to fulfill all righteousness." Then he consented. CEB 16 When Jesus was baptized, he immediately came up out of the water. Heaven was opened to him, and he saw the Spirit of God coming down like a dove and resting on him. NRS 16 And when Jesus had been baptized, just as he came up from the water, suddenly the heavens were opened to him and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him. CEB 17 A voice from heaven said, "This is my Son whom I dearly love; I find happiness in him." NRS 17 And a voice from heaven said, "This is my Son, the Beloved, with whom I am well pleased."
