Matthew 4

CEB 1 Then the Spirit led Jesus up into the wilderness so that the devil might tempt him. NIV 1 Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the desert to be tempted by the devil. CEB 6 "Since you are God's Son, throw yourself down; for it is written, I will command my angels concerning you, and they will take you up in their hands so that you won't hit your foot on a stone." For it is written: " 'He will command his angels concerning you, and they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.' " CEB 7 Jesus replied, "Again it's written, Don't test the Lord your God." NIV 7 Jesus answered him, "It is also written: 'Do not put the Lord your God to the test.' " CEB 8 Then the devil brought him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. NIV 8 Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. CEB 9 He said, "I'll give you all these if you bow down and worship me." NIV 9 "All this I will give you," he said, "if you will bow down and worship me." CEB 10 Jesus responded, "Go away, Satan, because it's written, You will worship the Lord your God and serve only him." NIV 10 Jesus said to him, "Away from me, Satan! For it is written: 'Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.' " CEB 11 The devil left him, and angels came and took care of him. NIV 11 Then the devil left him, and angels came and attended him. CEB 12 Now when Jesus heard that John was arrested, he went to Galilee. NIV 12 When Jesus heard that John had been put in prison, he returned to Galilee. CEB 13 He left Nazareth and settled in Capernaum, which lies alongside the sea in the area of Zebulun and Naphtali. CEB 18 As Jesus walked alongside the Galilee Sea, he saw two brothers, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew, throwing fishing nets into the sea, because they were fishermen.
