Matthew 5:16-26

LEB 16 In the [same] way let your light shine before people, so that they can see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven. NIV 16 In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven. LEB 17 "Do not think that I have come to destroy the law or the prophets. I have not come to destroy [them] but to fulfill [them]. NIV 17 "Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. LEB 18 For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not one tiny letter or one stroke of a letter will pass away from the law until all takes place. NIV 18 I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. LEB 19 Therefore whoever abolishes one of the least of these commandments and teaches people to do so will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever keeps [them] and teaches [them], this person will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. NIV 19 Anyone who breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. LEB 20 For I say to you that unless your righteousness greatly surpasses [that] of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter into the kingdom of heaven. NIV 20 For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven. LEB 21 "You have heard that it was said to the {people of old}, 'Do not commit murder,' and 'whoever commits murder will be subject to judgment.' NIV 21 "You have heard that it was said to the people long ago, 'Do not murder, and anyone who murders will be subject to judgment.' LEB 22 But I say to you that everyone who is angry at his brother will be subject to judgment, and whoever says to his brother, 'Stupid fool!' will be subject to the council, and whoever says, 'Obstinate fool!' will be subject to fiery hell. NIV 22 But I tell you that anyone who is angry with his brother will be subject to judgment. Again, anyone who says to his brother, 'Raca, ' is answerable to the Sanhedrin. But anyone who says, 'You fool!' will be in danger of the fire of hell. LEB 23 Therefore if you present your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, NIV 23 "Therefore, if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, LEB 24 leave your gift there before the altar and first go be reconciled to your brother, and then come [and] present your gift. NIV 24 leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to your brother; then come and offer your gift. LEB 25 {Settle the case quickly with your accuser} while you are with him on the way, lest your accuser hand you over to the judge, and the judge to the officer, and you be thrown into prison. NIV 25 "Settle matters quickly with your adversary who is taking you to court. Do it while you are still with him on the way, or he may hand you over to the judge, and the judge may hand you over to the officer, and you may be thrown into prison. LEB 26 Truly I say to you, you will never come out of there until you have paid back the last penny! NIV 26 I tell you the truth, you will not get out until you have paid the last penny.
