Matthew 5:16-26

NCV 16 In the same way, you should be a light for other people. Live so that they will see the good things you do and will praise your Father in heaven. NIV 16 In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven. NCV 17 "Don't think that I have come to destroy the law of Moses or the teaching of the prophets. I have not come to destroy them but to bring about what they said. NIV 17 "Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. NCV 18 I tell you the truth, nothing will disappear from the law until heaven and earth are gone. Not even the smallest letter or the smallest part of a letter will be lost until everything has happened. NIV 18 I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. NCV 19 Whoever refuses to obey any command and teaches other people not to obey that command will be the least important in the kingdom of heaven. But whoever obeys the commands and teaches other people to obey them will be great in the kingdom of heaven. NIV 19 Anyone who breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. NCV 20 I tell you that if you are no more obedient than the teachers of the law and the Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. NIV 20 For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven. NCV 21 "You have heard that it was said to our people long ago, 'You must not murder anyone. Anyone who murders another will be judged.' NIV 21 "You have heard that it was said to the people long ago, 'Do not murder, and anyone who murders will be subject to judgment.' NCV 22 But I tell you, if you are angry with a brother or sister, you will be judged. If you say bad things to a brother or sister, you will be judged by the council. And if you call someone a fool, you will be in danger of the fire of hell. NIV 22 But I tell you that anyone who is angry with his brother will be subject to judgment. Again, anyone who says to his brother, 'Raca, ' is answerable to the Sanhedrin. But anyone who says, 'You fool!' will be in danger of the fire of hell. NCV 23 "So when you offer your gift to God at the altar, and you remember that your brother or sister has something against you, NIV 23 "Therefore, if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, NCV 24 leave your gift there at the altar. Go and make peace with that person, and then come and offer your gift. NIV 24 leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to your brother; then come and offer your gift. NCV 25 "If your enemy is taking you to court, become friends quickly, before you go to court. Otherwise, your enemy might turn you over to the judge, and the judge might give you to a guard to put you in jail. NIV 25 "Settle matters quickly with your adversary who is taking you to court. Do it while you are still with him on the way, or he may hand you over to the judge, and the judge may hand you over to the officer, and you may be thrown into prison. NCV 26 I tell you the truth, you will not leave there until you have paid everything you owe. NIV 26 I tell you the truth, you will not get out until you have paid the last penny.
