Matthew 7

BBE 1 Be not judges of others, and you will not be judged. NIV 1 "Do not judge, or you too will be judged. BBE 2 For as you have been judging, so you will be judged, and with your measure will it be measured to you. NIV 2 For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. BBE 3 And why do you take note of the grain of dust in your brother's eye, but take no note of the bit of wood which is in your eye? NIV 3 "Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? BBE 4 Or how will you say to your brother, Let me take out the grain of dust from your eye, when you yourself have a bit of wood in your eye? NIV 4 How can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? BBE 5 You false one, first take out the bit of wood from your eye, then will you see clearly to take out the grain of dust from your brother's eye. NIV 5 You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye. BBE 6 Do not give that which is holy to the dogs, or put your jewels before pigs, for fear that they will be crushed under foot by the pigs whose attack will then be made against you. NIV 6 "Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and then turn and tear you to pieces. BBE 7 Make a request, and it will be answered; what you are searching for you will get; give the sign, and the door will be open to you: NIV 7 "Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. BBE 8 Because to everyone who makes a request, it will be given; and he who is searching will get his desire, and to him who gives the sign, the door will be open. NIV 8 For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened. BBE 9 Or which of you, if his son makes a request for bread, will give him a stone? NIV 9 "Which of you, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? BBE 10 Or if he makes a request for a fish, will give him a snake? NIV 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? BBE 11 If you, then, being evil, are able to give good things to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good things to those who make requests to him? NIV 11 If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him! BBE 12 All those things, then, which you would have men do to you, even so do you to them: because this is the law and the prophets. NIV 12 So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets. BBE 13 Go in by the narrow door; for wide is the door and open is the way which goes to destruction, and great numbers go in by it. NIV 13 "Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. BBE 14 For narrow is the door and hard the road to life, and only a small number make discovery of it. NIV 14 But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it. BBE 15 Be on the watch for false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inside they are cruel wolves. NIV 15 "Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. BBE 16 By their fruits you will get knowledge of them. Do men get grapes from thorns or figs from thistles? NIV 16 By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? BBE 17 Even so, every good tree gives good fruit; but the bad tree gives evil fruit. NIV 17 Likewise every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. BBE 18 It is not possible for a good tree to give bad fruit, and a bad tree will not give good fruit. NIV 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. BBE 19 Every tree which does not give good fruit is cut down and put in the fire. NIV 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. BBE 20 So by their fruits you will get knowledge of them. NIV 20 Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them. BBE 21 Not everyone who says to me, Lord, Lord, will go into the kingdom of heaven; but he who does the pleasure of my Father in heaven. NIV 21 "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. BBE 22 A great number will say to me on that day, Lord, Lord, were we not prophets in your name, and did we not by your name send out evil spirits, and by your name do works of power? NIV 22 Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?' BBE 23 And then will I say to them, I never had knowledge of you: go from me, you workers of evil. NIV 23 Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!' BBE 24 Everyone, then, to whom my words come and who does them, will be like a wise man who made his house on a rock; NIV 24 "Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. BBE 25 And the rain came down and there was a rush of waters and the winds were driving against that house, but it was not moved; because it was based on the rock. NIV 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. BBE 26 And everyone to whom my words come and who does them not, will be like a foolish man who made his house on sand; NIV 26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. BBE 27 And the rain came down and there was a rush of waters and the winds were driving against that house; and it came down and great was its fall. NIV 27 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash." BBE 28 And it came about, when Jesus had come to the end of these words, that the people were surprised at his teaching, NIV 28 When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching, BBE 29 for he was teaching as one having authority, and not as their scribes. NIV 29 because he taught as one who had authority, and not as their teachers of the law.
