Matthew 7

GNT 1 "Do not judge others, so that God will not judge you, NIV 1 "Do not judge, or you too will be judged. GNT 2 for God will judge you in the same way you judge others, and he will apply to you the same rules you apply to others. NIV 2 For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. GNT 3 Why, then, do you look at the speck in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the log in your own eye? NIV 3 "Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? GNT 4 How dare you say to your brother, "Please, let me take that speck out of your eye,' when you have a log in your own eye? NIV 4 How can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? GNT 5 You hypocrite! First take the log out of your own eye, and then you will be able to see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye. NIV 5 You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye. GNT 6 "Do not give what is holy to dogs - they will only turn and attack you. Do not throw your pearls in front of pigs - they will only trample them underfoot. NIV 6 "Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and then turn and tear you to pieces. GNT 7 "Ask, and you will receive; seek, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you. NIV 7 "Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. GNT 8 For everyone who asks will receive, and anyone who seeks will find, and the door will be opened to those who knock. NIV 8 For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened. GNT 9 Would any of you who are fathers give your son a stone when he asks for bread? NIV 9 "Which of you, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? GNT 10 Or would you give him a snake when he asks for a fish? NIV 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? GNT 11 As bad as you are, you know how to give good things to your children. How much more, then, will your Father in heaven give good things to those who ask him! NIV 11 If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him! GNT 12 "Do for others what you want them to do for you: this is the meaning of the Law of Moses and of the teachings of the prophets. NIV 12 So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets. GNT 13 "Go in through the narrow gate, because the gate to hell is wide and the road that leads to it is easy, and there are many who travel it. NIV 13 "Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. GNT 14 But the gate to life is narrow and the way that leads to it is hard, and there are few people who find it. NIV 14 But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it. GNT 15 "Be on your guard against false prophets; they come to you looking like sheep on the outside, but on the inside they are really like wild wolves. NIV 15 "Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. GNT 16 You will know them by what they do. Thorn bushes do not bear grapes, and briers do not bear figs. NIV 16 By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? GNT 17 A healthy tree bears good fruit, but a poor tree bears bad fruit. NIV 17 Likewise every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. GNT 18 A healthy tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a poor tree cannot bear good fruit. NIV 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. GNT 19 And any tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown in the fire. NIV 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. GNT 20 So then, you will know the false prophets by what they do. NIV 20 Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them. GNT 21 "Not everyone who calls me "Lord, Lord' will enter the Kingdom of heaven, but only those who do what my Father in heaven wants them to do. NIV 21 "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. GNT 22 When the Judgment Day comes, many will say to me, "Lord, Lord! In your name we spoke God's message, by your name we drove out many demons and performed many miracles!' NIV 22 Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?' GNT 23 Then I will say to them, "I never knew you. Get away from me, you wicked people!' NIV 23 Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!' GNT 24 "So then, anyone who hears these words of mine and obeys them is like a wise man who built his house on rock. NIV 24 "Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. GNT 25 The rain poured down, the rivers flooded over, and the wind blew hard against that house. But it did not fall, because it was built on rock. NIV 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. GNT 26 "But anyone who hears these words of mine and does not obey them is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. NIV 26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. GNT 27 The rain poured down, the rivers flooded over, the wind blew hard against that house, and it fell. And what a terrible fall that was!" NIV 27 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash." GNT 28 When Jesus finished saying these things, the crowd was amazed at the way he taught. NIV 28 When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching, GNT 29 He wasn't like the teachers of the Law; instead, he taught with authority. NIV 29 because he taught as one who had authority, and not as their teachers of the law.
