Matthew 8

WEB 1 When he came down from the mountain, great multitudes followed him. NIV 1 When he came down from the mountainside, large crowds followed him. WEB 2 Behold, a leper came to him and worshiped him, saying, "Lord, if you want to, you can make me clean." NIV 2 A man with leprosy came and knelt before him and said, "Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean." WEB 3 Jesus stretched out his hand, and touched him, saying, "I want to. Be made clean." Immediately his leprosy was cleansed. NIV 3 Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. "I am willing," he said. "Be clean!" Immediately he was cured of his leprosy. WEB 4 Jesus said to him, "See that you tell nobody, but go, show yourself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, as a testimony to them." NIV 4 Then Jesus said to him, "See that you don't tell anyone. But go, show yourself to the priest and offer the gift Moses commanded, as a testimony to them." WEB 5 When he came into Capernaum, a centurion came to him, asking him, NIV 5 When Jesus had entered Capernaum, a centurion came to him, asking for help. WEB 6 and saying, "Lord, my servant lies in the house paralyzed, grievously tormented." NIV 6 "Lord," he said, "my servant lies at home paralyzed and in terrible suffering." WEB 7 Jesus said to him, "I will come and heal him." NIV 7 Jesus said to him, "I will go and heal him." WEB 8 The centurion answered, "Lord, I'm not worthy for you to come under my roof. Just say the word, and my servant will be healed. NIV 8 The centurion replied, "Lord, I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed. WEB 9 For I am also a man under authority, having under myself soldiers. I tell this one, 'Go,' and he goes; and to another, 'Come,' and he comes; and to my servant, 'Do this,' and he does it." NIV 9 For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I tell this one, 'Go,' and he goes; and that one, 'Come,' and he comes. I say to my servant, 'Do this,' and he does it." WEB 10 When Jesus heard it, he marveled, and said to those who followed, "Most assuredly I tell you, I haven't found so great a faith, not even in Israel. NIV 10 When Jesus heard this, he was astonished and said to those following him, "I tell you the truth, I have not found anyone in Israel with such great faith. WEB 11 I tell you that many will come from the east and the west, and will sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, in the Kingdom of Heaven, NIV 11 I say to you that many will come from the east and the west, and will take their places at the feast with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven. WEB 12 but the sons of the kingdom will be thrown out into the outer darkness. There will be weeping and the gnashing of teeth." NIV 12 But the subjects of the kingdom will be thrown outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth." WEB 13 Jesus said to the centurion, "Go your way. Let it be done for you as you as you have believed." His servant was healed in that hour. NIV 13 Then Jesus said to the centurion, "Go! It will be done just as you believed it would." And his servant was healed at that very hour. WEB 14 When Jesus came into Peter's house, he saw his wife's mother lying sick of a fever. NIV 14 When Jesus came into Peter's house, he saw Peter's mother-in-law lying in bed with a fever. WEB 15 He touched her hand, and the fever left her. She got up and served him. NIV 15 He touched her hand and the fever left her, and she got up and began to wait on him. WEB 16 When evening came, they brought to him many possessed with demons. He cast out the spirits with a word, and healed all who were sick; NIV 16 When evening came, many who were demon-possessed were brought to him, and he drove out the spirits with a word and healed all the sick. WEB 17 that it might be fulfilled which was spoken through Isaiah the prophet, saying: "He took our infirmities, and bore our diseases." NIV 17 This was to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah: "He took up our infirmities and carried our diseases." WEB 18 Now when Jesus saw great multitudes about him, he gave the order to depart to the other side. NIV 18 When Jesus saw the crowd around him, he gave orders to cross to the other side of the lake. WEB 19 A scribe came, and said to him, "Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go." NIV 19 Then a teacher of the law came to him and said, "Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go." WEB 20 Jesus said to him, "The foxes have holes, and the birds of the sky have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head." NIV 20 Jesus replied, "Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head." WEB 21 Another of his disciples said to him, "Lord, allow me first to go and bury my father." NIV 21 Another disciple said to him, "Lord, first let me go and bury my father." WEB 22 But Jesus said to him, "Follow me, and leave the dead to bury their own dead." NIV 22 But Jesus told him, "Follow me, and let the dead bury their own dead." WEB 23 When he got into a boat, his disciples followed him. NIV 23 Then he got into the boat and his disciples followed him. WEB 24 Behold, a great tempest arose in the sea, so much that the boat was covered with the waves, but he was asleep. NIV 24 Without warning, a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. WEB 25 They came to him, and woke him up, saying, "Save us, Lord! We are dying!" NIV 25 The disciples went and woke him, saying, "Lord, save us! We're going to drown!" WEB 26 He said to them, "Why are you fearful, oh you of little faith?" Then he got up, rebuked the wind and the sea, and there was a great calm. NIV 26 He replied, "You of little faith, why are you so afraid?" Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm. WEB 27 The men marveled, saying, "What kind of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?" NIV 27 The men were amazed and asked, "What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him!" WEB 28 When he came to the other side, into the country of the Gergesenes, two people possessed with demons met him there, coming forth out of the tombs, exceedingly fierce, so that no man could pass by that way. NIV 28 When he arrived at the other side in the region of the Gadarenes, two demon-possessed men coming from the tombs met him. They were so violent that no one could pass that way. WEB 29 Behold, they cried out, saying, "What do we have to do with you, Jesus, Son of God? Have you come here to torment us before the time?" NIV 29 "What do you want with us, Son of God?" they shouted. "Have you come here to torture us before the appointed time?" WEB 30 Now there was a herd of many pigs feeding far away from them. NIV 30 Some distance from them a large herd of pigs was feeding. WEB 31 The demons begged him, saying, "If you cast us out, permit us to go away into the herd of pigs." NIV 31 The demons begged Jesus, "If you drive us out, send us into the herd of pigs." WEB 32 He said to them, "Go!" They came out, and went into the herd of pigs: and behold, the whole herd of pigs rushed down the cliff into the sea, and died in the water. NIV 32 He said to them, "Go!" So they came out and went into the pigs, and the whole herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake and died in the water. WEB 33 Those who fed them fled, and went away into the city, and told everything, and what happened to those who were possessed with demons. NIV 33 Those tending the pigs ran off, went into the town and reported all this, including what had happened to the demon-possessed men. WEB 34 Behold, all the city came out to meet Jesus. When they saw him, they begged that he would depart from their borders. NIV 34 Then the whole town went out to meet Jesus. And when they saw him, they pleaded with him to leave their region.
