Matthew 9:35-38

CEB 35 Jesus traveled among all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, announcing the good news of the kingdom, and healing every disease and every sickness. CEB 1 He called his twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits to throw them out and to heal every disease and every sickness. NRS 1 Then Jesus summoned his twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to cure every disease and every sickness. CEB 2 Here are the names of the twelve apostles: first, Simon, who is called Peter; and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee; and John his brother; NRS 2 These are the names of the twelve apostles: first, Simon, also known as Peter, and his brother Andrew; James son of Zebedee, and his brother John; CEB 3 Philip; and Bartholomew; Thomas; and Matthew the tax collector; James the son of Alphaeus; and Thaddaeus; NRS 3 Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew the tax collector; James son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus; CEB 4 Simon the Cananaean; and Judas, who betrayed Jesus. NRS 6 but go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. CEB 7 As you go, make this announcement: ‘The kingdom of heaven has come near.' NRS 7 As you go, proclaim the good news, "The kingdom of heaven has come near.' CEB 8 Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those with skin diseases, and throw out demons. You received without having to pay. Therefore, give without demanding payment. NRS 8 Cure the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons. You received without payment; give without payment. CEB 9 Workers deserve to be fed, so don't gather gold or silver or copper coins for your money belts to take on your trips. NRS 9 Take no gold, or silver, or copper in your belts, CEB 10 Don't take a backpack for the road or two shirts or sandals or a walking stick. NRS 10 no bag for your journey, or two tunics, or sandals, or a staff; for laborers deserve their food. CEB 11 Whatever city or village you go into, find somebody in it who is worthy and stay there until you go on your way. NRS 11 Whatever town or village you enter, find out who in it is worthy, and stay there until you leave. CEB 12 When you go into a house, say, ‘Peace!' NRS 12 As you enter the house, greet it. CEB 13 If the house is worthy, give it your blessing of peace. But if the house isn't worthy, take back your blessing. NRS 13 If the house is worthy, let your peace come upon it; but if it is not worthy, let your peace return to you. CEB 14 If anyone refuses to welcome you or listen to your words, shake the dust off your feet as you leave that house or city. NRS 14 If anyone will not welcome you or listen to your words, shake off the dust from your feet as you leave that house or town. CEB 15 I assure you that it will be more bearable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah on Judgment Day than it will be for that city. NRS 15 Truly I tell you, it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah on the day of judgment than for that town. CEB 16 “Look, I'm sending you as sheep among wolves. Therefore, be wise as snakes and innocent as doves. NRS 16 "See, I am sending you out like sheep into the midst of wolves; so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves. CEB 17 Watch out for people—because they will hand you over to councils and they will beat you in their synagogues. NRS 17 Beware of them, for they will hand you over to councils and flog you in their synagogues; CEB 18 They will haul you in front of governors and even kings because of me so that you may give your testimony to them and to the Gentiles. NRS 18 and you will be dragged before governors and kings because of me, as a testimony to them and the Gentiles. CEB 19 Whenever they hand you over, don't worry about how to speak or what you will say, because what you can say will be given to you at that moment. NRS 19 When they hand you over, do not worry about how you are to speak or what you are to say; for what you are to say will be given to you at that time; CEB 20 You aren't doing the talking, but the Spirit of my Father is doing the talking through you. NRS 20 for it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you. CEB 21 Brothers and sisters will hand each other over to be executed. A father will turn his child in. Children will defy their parents and have them executed. NRS 21 Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child, and children will rise against parents and have them put to death; CEB 22 Everyone will hate you on account of my name. But whoever stands firm until the end will be saved. NRS 22 and you will be hated by all because of my name. But the one who endures to the end will be saved. CEB 23 Whenever they harass you in one city, escape to the next, because I assure that you will not go through all the cities of Israel before the Human One comes. NRS 23 When they persecute you in one town, flee to the next; for truly I tell you, you will not have gone through all the towns of Israel before the Son of Man comes.
