Micah 6:9-16

RSV 9 The voice of the LORD cries to the city--and it is sound wisdom to fear thy name: "Hear, O tribe and assembly of the city! NIV 9 Listen! The LORD is calling to the city-- and to fear your name is wisdom-- "Heed the rod and the One who appointed it. RSV 10 Can I forget the treasures of wickedness in the house of the wicked, and the scant measure that is accursed? NIV 10 Am I still to forget, O wicked house, your ill-gotten treasures and the short ephah, which is accursed? RSV 11 Shall I acquit the man with wicked scales and with a bag of deceitful weights? NIV 11 Shall I acquit a man with dishonest scales, with a bag of false weights? RSV 12 Your rich men are full of violence; your inhabitants speak lies, and their tongue is deceitful in their mouth. NIV 12 Her rich men are violent; her people are liars and their tongues speak deceitfully. RSV 13 Therefore I have begun to smite you, making you desolate because of your sins. NIV 13 Therefore, I have begun to destroy you, to ruin you because of your sins. RSV 14 You shall eat, but not be satisfied, and there shall be hunger in your inward parts; you shall put away, but not save, and what you save I will give to the sword. NIV 14 You will eat but not be satisfied; your stomach will still be empty. You will store up but save nothing, because what you save I will give to the sword. RSV 15 You shall sow, but not reap; you shall tread olives, but not anoint yourselves with oil; you shall tread grapes, but not drink wine. NIV 15 You will plant but not harvest; you will press olives but not use the oil on yourselves, you will crush grapes but not drink the wine. RSV 16 For you have kept the statutes of Omri, and all the works of the house of Ahab; and you have walked in their counsels; that I may make you a desolation, and your inhabitants a hissing; so you shall bear the scorn of the peoples." NIV 16 You have observed the statutes of Omri and all the practices of Ahab's house, and you have followed their traditions. Therefore I will give you over to ruin and your people to derision; you will bear the scorn of the nations. "
