Nehemiah 11

DBY 1 And the princes of the people dwelt in Jerusalem; and the rest of the people cast lots, to bring one of ten to dwell in Jerusalem, the holy city, and nine parts in the cities. NIV 1 Now the leaders of the people settled in Jerusalem, and the rest of the people cast lots to bring one out of every ten to live in Jerusalem, the holy city, while the remaining nine were to stay in their own towns. DBY 2 And the people blessed all the men that willingly offered themselves to dwell in Jerusalem. NIV 2 The people commended all the men who volunteered to live in Jerusalem. DBY 3 And these are the chiefs of the province that dwelt in Jerusalem; but in the cities of Judah dwelt every one in his possession in their cities, Israel, the priests, and the Levites, and the Nethinim, and the children of Solomon's servants. NIV 3 These are the provincial leaders who settled in Jerusalem (now some Israelites, priests, Levites, temple servants and descendants of Solomon's servants lived in the towns of Judah, each on his own property in the various towns, DBY 4 And in Jerusalem dwelt some of the children of Judah and of the children of Benjamin. Of the children of Judah: Athaiah the son of Uzziah, the son of Zechariah, the son of Amariah, the son of Shephatiah, the son of Mahalaleel, of the children of Pherez; NIV 4 while other people from both Judah and Benjamin lived in Jerusalem): From the descendants of Judah: Athaiah son of Uzziah, the son of Zechariah, the son of Amariah, the son of Shephatiah, the son of Mahalalel, a descendant of Perez; DBY 5 and Maaseiah the son of Baruch, the son of Col-hozeh, the son of Hazaiah, the son of Adaiah, the son of Joiarib, the son of Zechariah, the son of Shiloni. NIV 5 and Maaseiah son of Baruch, the son of Col-Hozeh, the son of Hazaiah, the son of Adaiah, the son of Joiarib, the son of Zechariah, a descendant of Shelah. DBY 6 All the children of Pherez that dwelt in Jerusalem were four hundred and sixty-eight valiant men. NIV 6 The descendants of Perez who lived in Jerusalem totaled 468 able men. DBY 7 And these are the children of Benjamin: Sallu the son of Meshullam, the son of Joed, the son of Pedaiah, the son of Kolaiah, the son of Maaseiah, the son of Ithiel, the son of Isaiah; NIV 7 From the descendants of Benjamin: Sallu son of Meshullam, the son of Joed, the son of Pedaiah, the son of Kolaiah, the son of Maaseiah, the son of Ithiel, the son of Jeshaiah, DBY 8 and after him, Gabbai, Sallai, nine hundred and twenty-eight: NIV 8 and his followers, Gabbai and Sallai--928 men. DBY 9 and Joel the son of Zicri was their overseer, and Judah the son of Senuah was second over the city. NIV 9 Joel son of Zicri was their chief officer, and Judah son of Hassenuah was over the Second District of the city. DBY 10 Of the priests: Jedaiah [the son of] Joiarib, Jachin, NIV 10 From the priests: Jedaiah; the son of Joiarib; Jakin; DBY 11 Seraiah the son of Hilkijah, the son of Meshullam, the son of Zadok, the son of Meraioth, the son of Ahitub, the ruler of the house of God. NIV 11 Seraiah son of Hilkiah, the son of Meshullam, the son of Zadok, the son of Meraioth, the son of Ahitub, supervisor in the house of God, DBY 12 And their brethren that did the work of the house, eight hundred and twenty-two; and Adaiah the son of Jeroham, the son of Pelaliah, the son of Amzi, the son of Zechariah, the son of Pashhur, the son of Malchijah; NIV 12 and their associates, who carried on work for the temple--822 men; Adaiah son of Jeroham, the son of Pelaliah, the son of Amzi, the son of Zechariah, the son of Pashhur, the son of Malkijah, DBY 13 and his brethren, chief fathers, two hundred and forty-two; and Amassai the son of Azareel, the son of Ahzai, the son of Meshillemoth, the son of Immer; NIV 13 and his associates, who were heads of families--242 men; Amashsai son of Azarel, the son of Ahzai, the son of Meshillemoth, the son of Immer, DBY 14 and their brethren, mighty men of valour, a hundred and twenty-eight: and their overseer was Zabdiel the son of Gedolim. NIV 14 and his associates, who were able men--128. Their chief officer was Zabdiel son of Haggedolim. DBY 15 And of the Levites: Shemaiah the son of Hasshub, the son of Azrikam, the son of Hashabiah, the son of Bunni; NIV 15 From the Levites: Shemaiah son of Hasshub, the son of Azrikam, the son of Hashabiah, the son of Bunni; DBY 16 and Shabbethai and Jozabad, of the chiefs of the Levites, [who were] over the outward work of the house of God; NIV 16 Shabbethai and Jozabad, two of the heads of the Levites, who had charge of the outside work of the house of God; DBY 17 and Mattaniah the son of Mica, the son of Zabdi, the son of Asaph, [who was] the principal to begin the thanksgiving in prayer; and Bakbukiah, the second among his brethren; and Abda the son of Shammua, the son of Galal, the son of Jeduthun: NIV 17 Mattaniah son of Mica, the son of Zabdi, the son of Asaph, the director who led in thanksgiving and prayer; Bakbukiah, second among his associates; and Abda son of Shammua, the son of Galal, the son of Jeduthun. DBY 18 all the Levites in the holy city were two hundred and eighty-four. NIV 18 The Levites in the holy city totaled 284. DBY 19 And the doorkeepers, Akkub, Talmon, and their brethren, that kept watch at the gates, were a hundred and seventy-two. NIV 19 The gatekeepers: Akkub, Talmon and their associates, who kept watch at the gates--172 men. DBY 20 And the residue of Israel, the priests, [and] the Levites, were in all the cities of Judah, every one in his inheritance. NIV 20 The rest of the Israelites, with the priests and Levites, were in all the towns of Judah, each on his ancestral property. DBY 21 And the Nethinim dwelt in Ophel; and Ziha and Gispa were over the Nethinim. NIV 21 The temple servants lived on the hill of Ophel, and Ziha and Gishpa were in charge of them. DBY 22 And the overseer of the Levites at Jerusalem was Uzzi the son of Bani, the son of Hashabiah, the son of Mattaniah, the son of Mica, of the sons of Asaph, the singers, for the work of the house of God. NIV 22 The chief officer of the Levites in Jerusalem was Uzzi son of Bani, the son of Hashabiah, the son of Mattaniah, the son of Mica. Uzzi was one of Asaph's descendants, who were the singers responsible for the service of the house of God. DBY 23 For it was the king's commandment concerning them, and there was a settled portion for the singers, due for each day. NIV 23 The singers were under the king's orders, which regulated their daily activity. DBY 24 And Pethahiah the son of Meshezabeel, of the children of Zerah the son of Judah, was at the king's hand in all matters concerning the people. NIV 24 Pethahiah son of Meshezabel, one of the descendants of Zerah son of Judah, was the king's agent in all affairs relating to the people. DBY 25 And as to the hamlets in their fields, [some] of the children of Judah dwelt in Kirjath-Arba and its dependent villages, and in Dibon and its dependent villages, and in Jekabzeel and its dependent villages, NIV 25 As for the villages with their fields, some of the people of Judah lived in Kiriath Arba and its surrounding settlements, in Dibon and its settlements, in Jekabzeel and its villages, DBY 26 and in Jeshua, and in Moladah, and in Beth-phelet, NIV 26 in Jeshua, in Moladah, in Beth Pelet, DBY 27 and in Hazar-Shual, and in Beer-sheba and its dependent villages, NIV 27 in Hazar Shual, in Beersheba and its settlements, DBY 28 and in Ziklag, and in Meconah and its dependent villages; NIV 28 in Ziklag, in Meconah and its settlements, DBY 29 and in En-Rimmon, and in Zorah, and in Jarmuth, NIV 29 in En Rimmon, in Zorah, in Jarmuth, DBY 30 Zanoah, Adullam, and their hamlets, in Lachish and its fields, in Azekah and its dependent villages: and they encamped from Beer-sheba unto the valley of Hinnom. NIV 30 Zanoah, Adullam and their villages, in Lachish and its fields, and in Azekah and its settlements. So they were living all the way from Beersheba to the Valley of Hinnom. DBY 31 And the children of Benjamin from Geba [dwelt] in Michmash and Aija and Bethel, and their dependent villages, NIV 31 The descendants of the Benjamites from Geba lived in Micmash, Aija, Bethel and its settlements, DBY 32 in Anathoth, Nob, Ananiah, NIV 32 in Anathoth, Nob and Ananiah, DBY 33 Hazor, Ramah, Gittaim, NIV 33 in Hazor, Ramah and Gittaim, DBY 34 Hadid, Zeboim, Neballat, NIV 34 in Hadid, Zeboim and Neballat, DBY 35 Lod, and Ono, the valley of craftsmen. NIV 35 in Lod and Ono, and in the Valley of the Craftsmen. DBY 36 And of the Levites there were divisions of Judah [dwelling] in Benjamin. NIV 36 Some of the divisions of the Levites of Judah settled in Benjamin.
