Numbers 1

DBY 1 And Jehovah spoke to Moses in the wilderness of Sinai in the tent of meeting, on the first of the second month, in the second year after their departure from the land of Egypt, saying, NIV 1 The LORD spoke to Moses in the Tent of Meeting in the Desert of Sinai on the first day of the second month of the second year after the Israelites came out of Egypt. He said: DBY 2 Take the sum of the whole assembly of the children of Israel, after their families, according to their fathers' houses, by the number of the names, every male, according to their polls; NIV 2 "Take a census of the whole Israelite community by their clans and families, listing every man by name, one by one. DBY 3 from twenty years and upward, all that go forth to military service in Israel: ye shall number them according to their hosts, thou and Aaron. NIV 3 You and Aaron are to number by their divisions all the men in Israel twenty years old or more who are able to serve in the army. DBY 4 And with you there shall be a man for every tribe, a man who is the head of his father's house. NIV 4 One man from each tribe, each the head of his family, is to help you. DBY 5 And these are the names of the men that shall stand with you: for Reuben, Elizur the son of Shedeur; NIV 5 These are the names of the men who are to assist you: from Reuben, Elizur son of Shedeur; DBY 6 for Simeon, Shelumiel the son of Zurishaddai; NIV 6 from Simeon, Shelumiel son of Zurishaddai; DBY 7 for Judah, Nahshon the son of Amminadab; NIV 7 from Judah, Nahshon son of Amminadab; DBY 8 for Issachar, Nethaneel the son of Zuar; NIV 8 from Issachar, Nethanel son of Zuar; DBY 9 for Zebulun, Eliab the son of Helon; NIV 9 from Zebulun, Eliab son of Helon; DBY 10 for the children of Joseph: for Ephraim, Elishama the son of Ammihud; for Manasseh, Gamaliel the son of Pedahzur; NIV 10 from the sons of Joseph: from Ephraim, Elishama son of Ammihud; from Manasseh, Gamaliel son of Pedahzur; DBY 11 for Benjamin, Abidan the son of Gideoni; NIV 11 from Benjamin, Abidan son of Gideoni; DBY 12 for Dan, Ahiezer the son of Ammishaddai; NIV 12 from Dan, Ahiezer son of Ammishaddai; DBY 13 for Asher, Pagiel the son of Ocran; NIV 13 from Asher, Pagiel son of Ocran; DBY 14 for Gad, Eliasaph the son of Deuel; NIV 14 from Gad, Eliasaph son of Deuel; DBY 15 for Naphtali, Ahira the son of Enan. NIV 15 from Naphtali, Ahira son of Enan." DBY 16 These were those summoned of the assembly, princes of the tribes of their fathers, the heads of the thousands of Israel. NIV 16 These were the men appointed from the community, the leaders of their ancestral tribes. They were the heads of the clans of Israel. DBY 17 And Moses and Aaron took these men who are expressed by their names, NIV 17 Moses and Aaron took these men whose names had been given, DBY 18 and gathered the whole assembly together on the first of the second month. And they declared their pedigrees after their families, according to their fathers' houses, by the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, according to their polls. NIV 18 and they called the whole community together on the first day of the second month. The people indicated their ancestry by their clans and families, and the men twenty years old or more were listed by name, one by one, DBY 19 As Jehovah had commanded Moses, so he numbered them in the wilderness of Sinai. NIV 19 as the LORD commanded Moses. And so he counted them in the Desert of Sinai: DBY 20 And the sons of Reuben, Israel's eldest son, their generations, after their families, according to their fathers' houses, by the number of the names, according to their polls, every male from twenty years old and upward, all that went forth to military service: NIV 20 From the descendants of Reuben the firstborn son of Israel: All the men twenty years old or more who were able to serve in the army were listed by name, one by one, according to the records of their clans and families. DBY 21 those that were numbered of them, of the tribe of Reuben, were forty-six thousand five hundred. NIV 21 The number from the tribe of Reuben was 46,500. DBY 22 Of the sons of Simeon: their generations, after their families, according to their fathers' houses, those that were numbered of them, by the number of the names, according to their polls, every male from twenty years old and upward, all that went forth to military service: NIV 22 From the descendants of Simeon: All the men twenty years old or more who were able to serve in the army were counted and listed by name, one by one, according to the records of their clans and families. DBY 23 those that were numbered of them, of the tribe of Simeon, were fifty-nine thousand three hundred. NIV 23 The number from the tribe of Simeon was 59,300. DBY 24 Of the sons of Gad: their generations, after their families, according to their fathers' houses, by the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that went forth to military service: NIV 24 From the descendants of Gad: All the men twenty years old or more who were able to serve in the army were listed by name, according to the records of their clans and families. DBY 25 those that were numbered of them, of the tribe of Gad, were forty-five thousand six hundred and fifty. NIV 25 The number from the tribe of Gad was 45,650. DBY 26 Of the sons of Judah: their generations, after their families, according to their fathers' houses, by the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that went forth to military service: NIV 26 From the descendants of Judah: All the men twenty years old or more who were able to serve in the army were listed by name, according to the records of their clans and families. DBY 27 those that were numbered of them, of the tribe of Judah, were seventy-four thousand six hundred. NIV 27 The number from the tribe of Judah was 74,600. DBY 28 Of the sons of Issachar: their generations, after their families, according to their fathers' houses, by the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that went forth to military service: NIV 28 From the descendants of Issachar: All the men twenty years old or more who were able to serve in the army were listed by name, according to the records of their clans and families. DBY 29 those that were numbered of them, of the tribe of Issachar, were fifty-four thousand four hundred. NIV 29 The number from the tribe of Issachar was 54,400. DBY 30 Of the sons of Zebulun: their generations, after their families, according to their fathers' houses, by the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that went forth to military service: NIV 30 From the descendants of Zebulun: All the men twenty years old or more who were able to serve in the army were listed by name, according to the records of their clans and families. DBY 31 those that were numbered of them, of the tribe of Zebulun, were fifty-seven thousand four hundred. NIV 31 The number from the tribe of Zebulun was 57,400. DBY 32 Of the sons of Joseph: of the children of Ephraim: their generations, after their families, according to their fathers' houses, by the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that went forth to military service: NIV 32 From the sons of Joseph: From the descendants of Ephraim: All the men twenty years old or more who were able to serve in the army were listed by name, according to the records of their clans and families. DBY 33 those that were numbered of them, of the tribe of Ephraim, were forty thousand five hundred. NIV 33 The number from the tribe of Ephraim was 40,500. DBY 34 Of the children of Manasseh: their generations, after their families, according to their fathers' houses, by the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that went forth to military service: NIV 34 From the descendants of Manasseh: All the men twenty years old or more who were able to serve in the army were listed by name, according to the records of their clans and families. DBY 35 those that were numbered of them, of the tribe of Manasseh, were thirty-two thousand two hundred. NIV 35 The number from the tribe of Manasseh was 32,200. DBY 36 Of the sons of Benjamin: their generations, after their families, according to their fathers' houses, by the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that went forth to military service: NIV 36 From the descendants of Benjamin: All the men twenty years old or more who were able to serve in the army were listed by name, according to the records of their clans and families. DBY 37 those that were numbered of them, of the tribe of Benjamin, were thirty-five thousand four hundred. NIV 37 The number from the tribe of Benjamin was 35,400. DBY 38 Of the sons of Dan: their generations, after their families, according to their fathers' houses, by the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that went forth to military service: NIV 38 From the descendants of Dan: All the men twenty years old or more who were able to serve in the army were listed by name, according to the records of their clans and families. DBY 39 those that were numbered of them, of the tribe of Dan, were sixty-two thousand seven hundred. NIV 39 The number from the tribe of Dan was 62,700. DBY 40 Of the sons of Asher: their generations, after their families, according to their fathers' houses, by the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that went forth to military service: NIV 40 From the descendants of Asher: All the men twenty years old or more who were able to serve in the army were listed by name, according to the records of their clans and families. DBY 41 those that were numbered of them, of the tribe of Asher, were forty-one thousand five hundred. NIV 41 The number from the tribe of Asher was 41,500. DBY 42 Of the sons of Naphtali: their generations, after their families, according to their fathers' houses, by the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that went forth to military service: NIV 42 From the descendants of Naphtali: All the men twenty years old or more who were able to serve in the army were listed by name, according to the records of their clans and families. DBY 43 those that were numbered of them, of the tribe of Naphtali, were fifty-three thousand four hundred. NIV 43 The number from the tribe of Naphtali was 53,400. DBY 44 These are those that were numbered, whom Moses and Aaron numbered, and the princes of Israel, the twelve men: each one was for the house of his fathers. NIV 44 These were the men counted by Moses and Aaron and the twelve leaders of Israel, each one representing his family. DBY 45 And all those that were numbered of the children of Israel, according to their fathers' houses, from twenty years old and upward, all that went forth to military service in Israel, NIV 45 All the Israelites twenty years old or more who were able to serve in Israel's army were counted according to their families. DBY 46 all they that were numbered were six hundred and three thousand five hundred and fifty. NIV 46 The total number was 603,550. DBY 47 But the Levites after the tribe of their fathers were not numbered among them. NIV 47 The families of the tribe of Levi, however, were not counted along with the others. DBY 48 For Jehovah had spoken to Moses, saying, NIV 48 The LORD had said to Moses: DBY 49 Only thou shalt not number the tribe of Levi, neither take the sum of them among the children of Israel. NIV 49 "You must not count the tribe of Levi or include them in the census of the other Israelites. DBY 50 But thou, appoint the Levites over the tabernacle of testimony, and over all the vessels thereof, and over all things that belong to it: they shall bear the tabernacle, and all its vessels; and they shall serve it, and round about the tabernacle shall they encamp; NIV 50 Instead, appoint the Levites to be in charge of the tabernacle of the Testimony--over all its furnishings and everything belonging to it. They are to carry the tabernacle and all its furnishings; they are to take care of it and encamp around it. DBY 51 and when the tabernacle setteth forward, the Levites shall take it down; and when the tabernacle encampeth, the Levites shall set it up; and the stranger that cometh near shall be put to death. NIV 51 Whenever the tabernacle is to move, the Levites are to take it down, and whenever the tabernacle is to be set up, the Levites shall do it. Anyone else who goes near it shall be put to death. DBY 52 And the children of Israel shall encamp every man in his camp, and every man by his own standard, according to their hosts; NIV 52 The Israelites are to set up their tents by divisions, each man in his own camp under his own standard. DBY 53 but the Levites shall encamp round about the tabernacle of testimony, that there come not wrath upon the assembly of the children of Israel; and the Levites shall keep the charge of the tabernacle of testimony. NIV 53 The Levites, however, are to set up their tents around the tabernacle of the Testimony so that wrath will not fall on the Israelite community. The Levites are to be responsible for the care of the tabernacle of the Testimony." DBY 54 And the children of Israel did so; according to all that Jehovah had commanded Moses, so did they. NIV 54 The Israelites did all this just as the LORD commanded Moses.
